Looks great when you want to see it, virtually disappears when you don't. The B6 is easily hidden in hair or on costumes, with five colors to match clothing, hair, and skin tones. Use a felt tip marker to color the white caps for near-perfect concealability. Never suffer the hassle and degraded sound quality of under-clothing miking again.

The B6 is resistant to makeup, sweat, and moisture when used with the supplied protective caps and works well in hair or on the body. The protective caps are easily removed for cleaning or replacement, and the aramid-reinforced cable gives it world-class survivability.

The B6 provides high-quality audio with low distortion at SPL up to 140 dB on 48V phantom power. The aramid cable and thin diaphragm combine to offer low handling noise. The flat-frequency response accurately captures voice or instruments, and the small size makes the B6 easy to position for ambient noise and feedback rejection.

Changeable protective caps let you shape the frequency response for different situations or to match other microphones. Versions are available for different speaking or singing styles, with high overload capability for recording instruments.

Standard, for most uses.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is it possible to get a shorter cable for this mic?

A: Yes, shorter XLR 5-pin female to dual XLR 3-pin male cables are available. The cable included with the miic is 5-feet long. We do have a 6-inch Sennheiser ACS5 5-pin XLR Female to Dual XLR Male Y Cable (B&H # SEACS), an 18-inch Remote Audio 5-Pin Stereo XLR Female to Dual XLR Male Y-Cable (B&H # RECAXSTE), and a 4.9-foot Lewitt DTP 40 Trs - 5-Pin XLR Female to Dual 3-Pin XLR Male Audio Cable (B&H # LEDTP40TRS) that will work with the BP4025 microphone.

Q: 2. I'm intrigued by the M-S setting, which Lisa described as traditional stereo. I'm wondering if the mic is set to MS, whether it could be used to mic two people sitting very close together for an interview. Possible?

A: The Audio-Technica BP4029 (AT835ST) records in M-S Mode and Left/Right Stereo Modes. Yes you can use it to interview people sitting very close together, up to about 5 feet away from the mic at the very most.

Q: 3. Can these transmit audio while recording a backup at the same time?

A: Yes, the Comica Audio CVM-WM200A PRO 2-Person Camera-Mount Wireless Omni Lavalier Microphone System can transmit audio while simultaneously recording backup audio files.

Q: 4. does it have a speed adjustment?

A: No. There is no speed adjustment.

Q: 5. How is the quality of this microphone compared to a similarly priced mono shotgun? I realize it can't possibly be as good since it is a jack of all trades, but does it compare reasonably well against the rode NTG3 or even the Sennheiser MKE 600?

A: The audio and build quality of the Audio-Technica BP4029 are very good. There are differences in design between the stereo BP4029 and the mono Rode NTG3 and Sennheiser MKE 600 microphones and in the way that they capture sound. Mono and stereo mics are typically used for different applications. The NTG3 and MKE 600 each have one cardioid mic element for a very focused pattern which picks up sound from directly in front of the mic. The stereo BP4029 has a mid-side configuration with separate cardioid and figure-8 mic elements which work together to create a stereo image. The cardioid element is used for "mid" and faces the sound source while the figure-8 element is the "side" mic which is typically aimed at a 90 degree angle from the sound source and creates the left and right split. The BP4029 offers three selectable settings -- M-S direct, LR wide, and LR narrow. In M-S mode, the BP4029 provides a traditional stereo sound. In addition to the basic M-S pattern, the BP4029 also offers LR wide mode to pick up more of the ambient sounds for a wider stereo image while the LR narrow mode picks up less of the ambient sound for a more narrow stereo image. The three settings allow the mic to be adjusted based on the recording environment in order to capture the best possible audio. So the mic you select should be based on the application it will be used for, the direction of the audio source, as well as the recording environment.

Q: 6. How do you put the belt on?

A: The platter has the belt installed and has red tape on the top to help you put it in place. With the platter on the record player , position the red tape to the top left and you will see a small motor spindle, remove the red tape and you should see the belt move with it. Position the belt around the spindle and you're all set.

Q: 7. Hi If I need to record sound effects and a quiet voice at a distance of 5-30 cm from the capsules, will the stereo image still be clearly present? I mean a clear separation of right and left.

A: Yes, because the Audio-Technica BP4025 X/Y Stereo Field Recording Microphone uses two individual capsules and offers the ability to keep the signal of each capsule independent of the other for individual recording, it will capture a stereo recording and depict a stereo image of the sound source it is oriented towards.

Q: 8. I have a C100 MK 2, was thinking that this would be great to use with a shotgun Mic. Plug one end into the XLR in the upper handle and the other into the XLR on the Mic. This should work well, correct?

A: You would have to plug the mic into the transmitter and the receiver into a recorder, camera or mixer. This is only made for dynamic mic's. So no phantom power.

Q: 9. Can I get a replacement mic for this unit?

A: The Comica Audio CVM-M-O1 Omnidirectional Lavalier Microphone for Comica and Sennheiser Wireless Transmitters, BH #COCVMMO1 is the replacement lavalier mic for this wireless system.

Q: 10. This mic can output both X/Y channels to each XLR cable, so I'm going to use it on a recorder like the zoom f3. Should I set the phantom power of each channel to 24V or 48V? Or is it both possible? The specs say '11-52VDC, 7mA typical (both channels total)' confuses me. Because this mic outputs two XLR cables, is it calculated by adding up the phantom power of the two? Please excuse the beginner's question.(24V+24V or 48V+48V ?)

A: The dual XLR outputs of the Audio-Technica BP4025 X/Y Stereo Field Recording Microphone should both be connected to XLR input sources with phantom power engaged. Although 48V is the most common, this microphone will work with input sources offering 11-52VDC from each output.

[1 to 2 V] I've been using B6 mics for a long time now for film. They sound great and are very easy to hide due to the tiny capsule.
I'm not sure DPA and Sanken Cos 11d have been dethroned yet, but this guy is on par as far as I'm concerned--especially considering the ease of hiding it.

[Plug-In Power] We were hoping to get a second Sanken cos-11D to have matching mics, but that mic has been on backorder for some time now. Needed a second mic for a job and we gave the Countryman B6 a shot. Very happy with its performance. And the case, accessories that come with it make it that much more valuable. They offer the mic for pretty much every receiver available. It was definitely worth it and we might possibly be looking at purchasing more Countryman B6 mics in the future.

[Omnidirectional] After using one of these on another film crew, I marveled at it's small size, big sound and the ability to hide it. As soon as I got home I bought one. I've used this on two client shoots already and the sound is great. Client's love it because the lav is almost invisible while the talent was walking around the set. Next time I need to mic more than one person, I'll probably buy another one - it's that good.

[Omnidirectional] Love the skinny cable and tiny mic on this lav. The carrying case is great, along with all the different response caps. Really warm, natural tones, my new favorite!
