The tan Countryman B2D Lavalier Mic for Shure Wireless Transmittersfrom Countryman B2D Lavalier Mic for Shure Wireless Transmittersfeatures a lightweight 0.18-ounce body that was designed to be discreetly mounted and can be used for miking news anchors, actors in a film or theater setting, lecturers in a school or house of worship type environment.

The B2D's tight hypercardioid pattern gives the mic an extra 6-10 dB of headroom compared to an omnidirectional lavalier mic, which means less problems with feedback, ambient noise, room rumble, and phase cancellations when using multiple microphones.

This version offers the highest gain for general chest-worn applications such as presentations or sermons. In addition, the B2D lavalier is equipped with a detachable cable that terminates to a TA4F connector for direct connection to Shure MXW1 and MXW1/0=-Z11 wireless bodypack transmitters.

With its small size and sensitivity options, the B2D can easily hide behind a shirt button. This makes it invisible for film work, theater, live shows, or any other application.

Natural vocal reproduction and a tight polar pattern make the B2D ideal for broadcast and is a dependable workhorse you can count on to perform night after night.

The isolation clips minimize clothing and vibration noise while allowing 360° of rotation for easy positioning of the microphone.

This microphone is tuned to a frequency response that is natural and intelligible at a wide range of distances from the mouth. It delivers wonderful sound quality on the chest (8-10" from the mouth) or towards the collar (3-4").

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is the mic head of Shure BLX188 Wireless Cardioid Lavalier Mic adjustable to the position of the source of sound? Will the mic capture the sound when the speaker turns the head sideway?

A: The lapel microphones in the Shure BLX188/CVL Dual-Channel Wireless Cardioid Lavalier Microphone System feature a directional (although wide) cardioid pickup pattern. When clipped to the collar, they should capture the speaker's voice in most orientations when the lapel microphone is oriented in an upward position, although perhaps to a lesser effect if the speaker turns their head.

Q: 2. Does this work with a Countryman mic?

A: Yes - if the Countryman mic is connector specific for a Shure TA4F connector:

Q: 3. Do these work with the paddle antennas to get more range or help with interference?

A: No, the Shure BLX88 receiver included with the Shure BLX188/CVL Dual-Channel Wireless Cardioid Lavalier Microphone System has built-in internal antennas and is not able to connect to external antennas. For this option, you will want to consider using the Shure BLX4R, SLX-D, QLX-D, and ULX-D series receivers.

Q: 4. Can both of the microphones work at the same time? Can you connect additional bodypack transmitters, and run all of them at the same time?

A: The Shure BLX188/CVL Dual-Channel is what is known as a dual channel system. You get 2 mic's but 1 receiver with 2 outputs. Yes you are supposed to use both mic's at the same time. That is the purpose of the system. You cannot expand on the system.

Q: 5. Are these Mics UHF?

A: Yes. These microphones are UHF operating at 584 - 608 MHz

Q: 6. Am I able to record audio to be used for video with this system, or is this strictly for presenters? I'm looking for a mic system that would work for both.

A: This will work for both presenter and camera and will output two diferent levels. The XLR outputs mic level and the 1/4" outputs instrument level. If using with a camera you may need to adapt the XLR to 3.5mm with this https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/387850-REG/Rode_VXLR_VXLR_Mono_Mini_Jack.html?sts=pi&pim=Y

Q: 7. Can this be utilized solely as in ear monitors?

A: No, the components of the Shure BLX188/CVL Dual-Channel Wireless Cardioid Lavalier Microphone System cannot be repurposed as in ear monitors. In this scenario, the smaller beltpack units are transmitters with TA4F microphone connections, where an IEM system would require them to be receivers with headphone connections.

Q: 8. is any of the three available frequency bands less vulnerable to interference? I want to use them in a deposition setting that changes from day to day from high end conference rooms to witnesses homes.

A: I can't speak to the 3 different band versions, but I can say that each version has a wide array of sub-bands you can choose from. Further more, the receiver has a function where you can have it select the sub-band with the least amount of interference -- it scans every band and then sets itself to the cleanest one. You then just set the transmitter to match. It has worked very well for me.

Q: 9. Can you replace the cardioid mics with omni directional mics?

A: Yes, there are many omnidirectional replacement lavaliers compatible for use with the Shure BLX188/CVL Dual-Channel Wireless Cardioid Lavalier Microphone System. The microphones in this system are not currently able to be swapped pre-purchase, but additional mics could be added. The following link shows currently listed omnidirectional lavalier options from Shure, which is a small sampling of potentially compatible omni microphones: https://bhpho.to/3977fE5

Q: 10. This says "antenna diversity" so how does that compare to true diversity?

A: The Shure BLX188/CVL Dual-Channel Wireless Cardioid Lavalier Microphone System only specifies "microprocessor-controlled internal antenna diversity" but does not get more specific on the type of diversity implemented. This article provides a good explanation of the differences in diversity types: https://bit.ly/3J80yOw

[Hypercardioid] Absolutely amazing. Super small. Easy to set up and use. Crisp clean audio without any adjustments in post. And very good at reducing noise and clothing rustle. I'm in love with these. GOOD AUDIO MAKES A DIFFERENCE!

[Hypercardioid] I have a Sony wireless lav and have gone through 2 Sony lavs due to the poor design of the cable going into the connector. Talked to a B&H audio consultant on the phone and she suggested the B3. Definitely seems to be a lot stronger at the connector.

[Plug-In Power] Needed a quality mic to record some interviews for a historical video series. Paired with my Sennheisser system, this little mic worked great. This is my 3rd Countryman mic and all seem solid. I'm happy with it.

[1 to 2 V] I like the flexibility of this product in that it enables varied positioning. All that's needed is tape specifically designed for attachment to skin and in my case the upper cheek of my face. It has clear sound and is comfortable to wear.

[Hypercardioid] I love these, I have been using them for a decade. They are very versatile: hair worn, over the ear with a purchase or home made rig or as a lavalier unit. Great response and clarity and very durable.

[1 to 2 V] I used this to replace the mic that comes with a Sennheiser ew 100 G4 and love the size. I have used a Countryman B3 wired mic for years.

[Hypercardioid] Very good in general - great for the cost. The B3 pairs well with the Senheisser G3 wireless packs. It sounds better than 'starter' mics like the ME2. Sanken sounds a bit better but costs a lot more. I think the B3 is in the sweet spot for moderate budget TV and film. The capsule tips included help shape the sound.
