Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I want to find a way to run Shure MX412's wirelessly using my existing Sennheiser G3 wireless belt pack transmitter combos. I tried to use Whirlwind 4x Phantom Power blocks but they introduced too much line noise to be useful. Any suggestion?

A: I would consider getting the Sennheiser SKP 300 G3 transmitter which will provide 48 volts of phantom power for your MX412. This way you will not be introducing additional electronics to your audio chain, potentially causing line noise.

Q: 2. how is it powered?

A: The Shure MX412DS requires phantom power which is generally provide by the source through the XLR connection cable.

Q: 3. Can this be used for both recording and also livestream (like for Zoom) if, for example, combined with an audio interface like the Audient EVO 4? We currently use the computer mic for Zoom classes, and we record other content using a Tascam DR-10L (and Nikon D750 for video).

A: Yes, you can use the Shure BLX14/PGA31 wireless mic system for recording and livestreaming. The output from the system's wireless receiver can be connected to your computer using an audio interface or connected directly to a camera or recorder in the same manner that you would when connecting a wired mic.

Q: 4. How heavy is the base? Will it stay in place even if the podium is slightly tilted?

A: Not very heavy at all. The overall weight of the entire microphone is less than 18 ounces. The chances of the microphone moving out of place if the podium is tilted is extremely high, unless the MX412DC is fastened or secured with velcro.

Q: 5. Does the MX412 DS have a mute switch and is it easily operable? If not which desktop model has the mute switch?

A: The Shure MX412D/S does have a programmable switch for mute functionality. Factory set to be a momentary switch, can be reprogrammed via dip switches in the unit to toggle on off as well as normally on or normally off. Switch diagram is included with the mic.

Q: 6. Does Shure BRH441M-LC include cable?

A: I was wondering the same thing. After further checking item number on the Shure web site, the cable is not included. I'm guessing the "LC" in the item number stands for "less cable".

Q: 7. Could I buy two receivers, put them in adjacent rooms then switch channels on the transmitter to switch between the receivers?

A: Yes, if you have two Shure BLX4R Rackmount Wireless Receivers tuned to different frequencies, you would be able to connect one Shure BLX1 Wireless Bodypack Transmitter to either receiver alternately.

Q: 8. How does one specify the termination & pinouts?

A: This headset provides a bare-wire pigtail for soldering your own connectors.

Q: 9. can I get this same deal featuring the BLXR and SM58. if so at what cost?

A: This is a special deal only B&H is having right now. In order to receive this deal with all the components included you would have to purchase this system, and then purchase a BLX2 SM58 wireless capsule separately. Within the same frequency band as the receiver. - Shure BLX2/SM58 Wireless Handheld Microphone Transmitter - H9 Band : $189.00 https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1194967-REG/shure_blx2_sm58_h9_blx2_handheld_transmitter_with.html Before purchasing, please make sure to use "Shure's Frequency Finder" (Link attached below) to make sure you buy the proper frequency band that corresponds with the area you will be using the system. In the quote above we used H9, but depending on where you live it may be something different. https://www.shure.com/americas/support/tools/wireless-frequency-finder

Q: 10. can I add handheld wireless sm58 to this unit?

A: You can purchase a Shure BLX2/SM58 Handheld Wireless Microphone Transmitter with the SM58 Capsule to use with the Shure BLX4 Tabletop Wireless Receiver included with the Shure BLX14/PGA31 Wireless Cardioid Headset Microphone System, instead of the Shure BLX1 Wireless Bodypack Transmitter with the Shure PGA31 Headset Microphone. However, only one transmitter can be used at a time with the receiver. If you want to be able to use both transmitters at the same time, you will need the Shure BLX88 Dual-Channel Tabletop Wireless Receiver.

[Plug-In Power] I bought it for kids' school musical of Shrek. Great mics, there are two ways to wear them which is awesome. Quality is great, but we were using superb Shure mic system

[Plug-In Power] I was looking for an SM-81 to record acoustic guitars anyway - it was recommended to me by a friend who teaches recording engineering - and I thought the bundle was too good to pass up. It did not disappoint. The SM-81 is clearly legendary for a reason. I've now made multiple recordings with it, with several different guitars, and the tracks sit perfectly in the mix with no additional EQ and no fuss. Today I tracked a vocal with it and was stunned by how well it captured my voice. Very very impressed with this mic and I'm not sorry I sprung for the extras.

[Brown] After years of outdoors and on-water use, the old headset developed a short, lost its two wind guards and was due for a replacement. We bought the system @ B&H, so it only made sense to go there for the replacement - which seems like its been upgraded. Was the same price as buying directly from Shure - but w/ free shipping. Can't beat it.

[Brown] I bought a pair of these to mic my C7 and classical guitar. Although I am still experimenting with various placements, all placements that I have tried have produced excellent results. Seems to be flat and accurate.

[Plug-In Power] I'm a musician, producer and audio designer, recording professionally for over 5 years. The SM-81 has been the small diaphragm condenser of choice in many studios since it was released. I own a pair of them and have used them primarily as drum overhead mics, and for stereo mic'ing acoustic guitars and other stringed instruments. The SM-81 is one of the most accurate mic's I've used (what you hear is what you get). They are also very well made... like long, silver, cylindrical jewels. The -10db pad and low end roll off switches are easy to get to, but not easy to accidentally switch on or off. They are also one of the quietest (low self-noise) mics. Many jazz artists love them because of their accuracy. They also work quite well for recording choirs and pipe organs.

[Plug-In Power] I purchased two of these to use at Church Service. Using this with a Shure Belt Pack system. Really good results with speech and singing. Good quality product at a very reasonable price.

[Brown] Used for live sound with Allen & Heath WZ4 and QSC 16 kW system. Clear and crisp, very controlable especially going into low note vocals. This is a new purchase. Will have to see how it performs a few more times.
