This Metabones T Speed Booster Ultra 0.71x Canon EF to RF Adapterfrom Metabones T Speed Booster Ultra 0.71x Canon EF to RF Adapterallows a full-frame Canon EF-mount lens to be used on a Canon RF-mount camera. While providing a one-stop increase for the camera over the lens's aperture range, up to a maximum output aperture of f/0.9, the adapter's optics help to maximize the connected lens's apparent angle of view during UHD 4K video capture.

When recording UHD 4K video, a Canon RF-mount camera is only able to capture the center portion of the image projected on its sensor, creating an in-camera "crop factor." A Canon EOS R Mirrorless Digital Camera Body and a Canon EOS RP Mirrorless Digital Camera Body feature a UHD 4K crop factor of 1.75x and 1.63x respectively. Inside this adapter, five optical elements in four groups condenses the light from the full-frame lens and effectively reduces the crop factor to 1.24x and 1.15x respectively. This also makes available to the sensor an additional one stop of light throughout the lens's aperture range.

This adapter is constructed from aluminum alloy for durability while minimizing weight and its mounting rings are made with brass to further prevent wear-and-tear. An internal, matte black coating prevents the appearance of reflections within the adapter barrel, and to help reduce stress on the camera mount when placed on a tripod, the adapter includes a detachable Arca-type compatible tripod foot with 1/4"-20 threads.

This T Speed Booster Ultra 0.71x Adapter supports electronic communication between an attached camera and lens. If the lens includes autofocus, image stabilization, as well as camera-controlled aperture functions, this adapter is intended to allow use of those features. A: Lens flares can occur with any lens especially when pointed towards the sun regardless of whether using a Metabones Speed Booster, a regular Canon adapter, or a native RF lens. Lens hoods can help reduce the risk of flares but they cannot prevent them in all situations.

Q: 5. the Sigma 18-35 seems to give me fairly bad auto focus, eye auto focus doesn't seem to work well either. Canon EF lenses are working fine, anyone else have this issue with the speedbooster?

Because this is a speed booster it is only compatible with lenses designed for full frame cameras being used on APS-C format camera (eg. Canon C70 and RED Komodo, etc.) or using with the APS-Crop mode of EOS R3, R5, R6, EOS R and EOS RP.

[1/4"-20 Female] I know Canon has moved on with its R series presenting new 4K options, but if you still have the original R which still shoots beautiful 4K, this is a game changer. I've used it for years and never had an issue. The ability to get the full frame effect of your EF lenses and a stop of light is extremely useful. Well worth the price. 5

[1/4"-20 Female] Having the crop 4K mode on the EOS R reminded me of doing photography with a crop body that really limited on the selection of quality wide-angle lenses. My Tamron 35mm f/1.8 VC lens at around 61mm can be a bit tight in shooting video so when I saw this adapter come back in stock, I jumped on it, and glad I did! And yes, I can see on my screen that my 35mm f/1.8 Max now reads as wide as f/1.2! Holy moly the bokeh is even more beautiful going from focusing on a front object to the background. The fit is fine; it's nice and tight and somehow was a perfect fit even with my SmallRig cage for the EOS R. The bottom shoe which I didn't take off barely cleared the surface of the cage. The 35mm lens at 43mm is absolutely awesome. Even better, I can gain f/0.9 which is huge in certain situations allowing me to reduce noise when the lighting condition is not ideal. Yes, it's a little pricey but in a lot of ways, this adapter is a must. If you strictly shoot videos, I would skip the regular Canon EOS EF to RF adapter. I'll obviously keep mine for now as the regular adapter can act as a teleconverter in a sense if I need a hint of reach. 5

[Canon RF] Ended up buying this after using one a friend of mine had. Getting access to more of your sensor with wider lenses is amazing and the extra bit of exposure it gives is also wildly helpful if you have a lens that is just a little darker than you’d like. The other thing I’d like to point out is the amazing build quality, it’s such a rock solid piece of gear. Highly recommend if you’re on the fence about getting one 5

[1/4"-20 Female] The best video quality a sensor can provide is made by using the native resolution on video, that is why Canon used a crop area of the sensor for its 4K video, a 1.75x horizontal crop, with the Metabones 0.71x this crop get reduced to 1.2425x, which gets back almost the same results as a full frame composition. Image quality is the same, and some crop lenses are compatible, the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 with some vignetting @ 18mm but it disappears at 20mm, great option for those 4K or FHD-crop-mode shooters. 5

[0.77 lb] This speedbooster works well with the lenses I want to use it with. Canon R7 with a few Sigma lenses. It yields great image quality with my 150-600 contemporary lens and gives me F3.5-F4.5. With the 1.6x crop thats still well over 600mm at F4.5. And over 1200mm shooting 4k crop mode on the R7. Its faster than the lens by itself at this focal length and image quality is still fantastic. Highly recommended for the R7 if you need more speed or even wider angle with your EF lenses on the R7. 5

[0.77 lb] I noticed that someone gave this a one-star review because they said it did not work on the Canon C70. This is not true, you simply have to remove the mount base and it goes on just as expected and works perfectly. 5

[1/4"-20 Female] I'm using it on a Red Komodo and the aperture control doesn't work. Not sure if it's a compatibility issue on Red's part or Metabones. I'll withhold my judgement until I get confirmation. Until then, love the opportunity to get a full frame lens projected onto the Komodo's smaller sensor. 5

[1/4"-20 Female] Not much information on this yet online, so I went off the specs and knowing that Metabones makes amazing speedboosters; I have one for the BMPCC4k. Very satisfied with this one for the EOS R, all of my lenses work perfectly in 4k video mode, including a 16-35 2.8 Canon L ii, 18-35 Sigma, 100mm L, 24-105 F4 L, etc. No issues or vignetting during 4k video, but of course in picture mode you'll get vignetting, so this is a video speedbooster mainly. Getting an extra stop of light is huge, too. Very happy about that and presents itself as useful as a new lens. Build quality is stellar, but the lens doesn't have the same satisfying click as on the original canon adapter, but it's in there securely regardless. 5
