The Shure SLXD24/B87A offers presenters and performers a wireless handheld microphone system that's dependable, easy to set up, and features crystal-clear, digital sound quality. Built around a rugged, single-channel, half-rack receiver with removable antennas, the system is ideally suited for portable rigs or long-term installations in small to medium-sized venues, event spaces, conference rooms, houses-of-worship, and education facilities.

The SLX-D operates in the UHF band to transmit high-quality, 24-bit digital audio with over 120 dB of dynamic range for crisp, detailed sound. It utilizes Digital Predictive-Switching Diversity to protect the transmission from interference and deliver a solid, reliable RF signal without dropouts.

This configuration includes the SLXD2 handheld transmitter featuring an interchangeable microphone capsule design and equipped with a Beta 87A condenser capsule. The supercardioid pickup pattern focuses on the voice, helping to reduce feedback on loud stages. The lightweight metal transmitter has a selectable 1/10mW RF power output and a transmission range up to 330'. It provides up to 8 hours of operation on two AA batteries or an SB903 rechargeable battery (available separately).

The all-metal, rackmount SLXD4 receiver features an intuitive LCD interface with meters for RF, battery status, and audio output. It also offers 60 dB of gain control, and both mic/line XLR and 1/4" instrument outputs. Additional features include automatic frequency scanning and IR sync to easily link the transmitter and receiver to the same frequency.

With up to 32 mic channels available at the same time, the SLX-D is ready to expand as your needs grow. What’s more, setting up multiple systems is made fast and easy via the Ethernet port, which links the them together for quick, coordinated frequency scans from a single receiver.

  • With durable aluminum housing, the SLXD2 handheld transmitter offers a lightweight design that's comfortable to hold,  and it features an LCD to show essential information.
  • The Beta 87A condenser microphone capsule handles SPL levels up to 140 dB and offers a smooth frequency response with a gradual presence rise and controlled proximity effect tailored for vocals. Its supercardioid pickup pattern helps isolate the voice from unwanted background noise.
  • The transmitter's interchangeable capsule design allows you to choose the ideal capsule for your application. Shure offers a variety of optional dynamic and condenser mic capsules with varying pickup patterns—capsules include the Beta 58A, SM58, and KSM8.

  • The SLX-D delivers 24-bit digital audio with a fast transient response and over 120 dB of dynamic range—resulting in clear, accurate sound.
  • The system operates in the G58: 470 to 514 MHz UHF band with a 44 MHz tuning range and 1760 selectable frequencies, far away from potential Wi-Fi interference in the 2.4 GHz band.
  • Digital Predictive Switching Diversity uses a microprocessor to switch between the two antennas for the cleanest signal—before dropouts occur.
  • With a low latency of 3.2 ms, the system is ideal for applications that require live sound reinforcement.
  • The SLX-D's spectrum-efficient digital transmission technology allows for up to 32 mics to be used at once.
  • The system supports up to 10 compatible systems per 6 MHz TV band and 12 systems per 8 MHz band.
  • Ethernet networking saves you time with coordinated group scanning between multiple receivers from a single location; TCPI command streams from third-party companies such as AMX and Crestron are also supported.

  • Housed in a tough, half-rack metal chassis with detachable antennas, the SLXD4 receiver is a great fit for A/V installations or as part of a portable rackmount rig—ready to travel to a meeting or event.
  • The SLX-D is engineered to provide outstanding sound for small- to medium-sized spaces and facilities—without costly, complicated features required primarily for large venues.
  • Intuitive front-panel controls and a high-contrast LCD screen with audio and RF meters makes set up a snap.
  • The auto-scan function automatically seeks out the cleanest available frequency for you. The receiver and transmitter then easily link to the same frequency via infrared.
  • The receiver offers up to 60 dB of adjustable gain, and the display shows you where the ideal level should be.

  • Adding the SB903 lithium-ion rechargeable battery, along with an SBC10-903 single charger or an SBC203 dual-docking charger, offers a cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to throwing away AA batteries (battery and chargers available separately).
  • Using the SB903 battery and SBC203 charger simplifies the task of keeping multiple transmitters charged and ready—you can even recharge the battery while still in the transmitter.
  • When powered by an SB903, the transmitter displays the remaining battery life in hours and minutes.

  • Adding UA874 active antennas or PA805SWB passive antennas increases the range of your system and offers increased protection against interference.
  • The UA844+SWB antenna distribution system (available separately) lets you stretch the power of your antenna pairs, giving you more on-air channels in less setup time.

Shure offers a bodypack transmitter with a variety of lavalier and headset microphones to adapt your system as your needs evolve.

  • The WL183 (omnidirectional), WL185 (cardioid), and WL184 (supercardioid) lavalier mics offer hands-free presentation options.
  • The miniature WL93 and subminiature MX150 mics are smaller, easy-to-conceal lavaliers.
  • The discreet MX153 subminiature earset mic provides exceptional clarity in spoken word applications.
  • The PGA31 is a comfortable, durable headset microphone for active performance.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can I use this with phantom power

A: While this unit doesn't require phantom power, the unit can be used with phantom power on.

Q: 2. Does the mic have a mute button? If not can you mute mics from the receiver?

A: There is no mute button on the transmitter or receiver of the Shure SLXD24D/B58 Dual-Channel Digital Wireless Handheld Microphone System with Beta 58 Capsules. Any muting would need to be done via the mixing desk.

Q: 3. Does the receiver of this system use a removable battery?

A: The Shure SLXD4D Dual-Channel Digital Wireless Receiver in the Shure SLXD14D Dual-Channel Digital Wireless Bodypack System with No Mics does not use an internal battery but rather receives a 100 to 240 VAC external power connection from a dedicated power supply.

Q: 4. Will the Shure UA844+SWB UHF Wideband Antenna Distribution System work with this?

A: The Shure UA844+SWB UHF Wideband Antenna Distribution System (470 to 960 MHz) will only work when using three (3) to five (5) receivers from the Shure SLXD14D Dual-Channel Digital Wireless Bodypack System simultaneously with a pair of external antennas like the Shure UA874 Active Directional Antenna (B&H # SHUA874US).

Q: 5. Does it come with rack mount hardware?

A: Yes, rack mount hardware is included for the receiver.

Q: 6. Can I stack multiple of these units? Thanks!

A: Shure does not recommend stacking multiple BLX88 and BLX4 receivers on top of each other since the antennas are built into the casing. You may want to consider the BLX4R receivers instead since this model has external antennas and multiple receivers can be easily rackmounted and stacked on top of each other without blocking the signal from going to the antennas.

Q: 7. I have the Dual-Channel System with H55: 514 to 558 MHz band. I want to get a second unit. Should I buy the same frequency band?

A: In most cases you can use the same frequency band, but to be sure, please click the following link. The Shure Frequency Finder will show you how many microphones you can use per frequency band based on your zip code. https://www.shure.com/en-US/support/tools/frequency-finder

Q: 8. Is this compatible with Shure UA874 antennas?

A: The Shure SLXD24/B58 Digital Wireless Handheld Microphone System with Beta 58A Capsule (G58: 470 to 514 MHz), BH # SHSLXD24BG, is fully compatible with the Shure UA874 Active Directional Antenna (B&H # SHUA874US).

Q: 9. I HAD THE BLX2 88 OLD MODEL WITH ANTENNAS,AND 2 SM58A MIC,I LIKE TO ADD ON BLX288/58, ARE THEY CAN BE WORK TOGETHER? THANKS, RICK.

A: Yes, you can use the Shure BLX288/B58 Dual-Channel Wireless Handheld Microphone System with Beta 58A Capsules and your older Shure BLX series wireless microphone system at the same time. It doesn't matter whether the two systems operate on different frequency bands or if they both are on the same band. Since the BLX series system has 123 individual frequencies within the band, up to 12 BLX series systems that operate on the same band can be used at the same time within a 300 foot range without any problems.

Q: 10. will this system work in a fitness studio? we have coaches who sweat and are active during a group fitness class

A: Yes, the Shure SLXD14D Dual-Channel Digital Wireless Bodypack System with No Mics will be able to function inside a fitness studio. Please be aware that you will need to add microphones to connect to the transmitters and that the antennas for the transmitters and receiver must be within line of sight of each other in order for the system to function properly.

[DHCP, Manual IP] We have this mic in addition to a couple of Shure GLXDs with Beta 58 mics. We like those mics, but this one really blows them out of the water!

[140.5 dB SPL] We had an old ULXP from 2007. it still works and everything work fine, but the way this digital captures the audio is so much better.
on the old one i had to give it lots of eq. this new one i only have to eq a little bit. i had to apply lots of gain and high gate on the old one but with this one my gain is not as much and my gate has been lowered significantly. the mic does great at adjusting its own gain. i have not had issue with feedback yet. i love that it uses AA batteries.
so even if you dont buy the rechargable battery pack, you wont spend a fortune on batteries. the old ULXP uses 9v batteries and those are pricey. THe mic feels great in your hand, the metal housing really gives it a different feel. I use the mic on 10mw setting and i havent had issues with transmission. RX is 70 feet away and no issues. i Believe its worth the extra 250 to go from QLXD to ULXD models. if your debating if Q or U, spend the extra 250 and get the U, you wont regret it.

[Handheld] One of our mics disappeared the day before an important event. B&H had the unit in stock, and I was able to pick it up on my way home! These mics are sturdy, easy to use and sync with the multiple receivers in our facility, and we can get good levels before feedback.

[32] The Ulxd series from Shure is incredibly fast to setup and sync. After using the uhf-r, these are just way better. You also get 3 transmit power levels in this handle which helps out when your antennas are far away from stage. They are metal housed and very strong. The display is very easy to read, ALTHOUGH, I do like the display on the SLXD better, especially on the transmitter. SLXD has better contrast and easier to read. I have also used the Dante on the Ulxd series. Works great. I have 6 in a rack and one cat6 cable puts them all on the network. No xlr needed if you have a Dante enabled mixer. The available frequencies after a scan in WWB6 are usually around 40-50 in Los Angeles in the g50 band, which is plenty for me. The only thing I would like to see Shure improve on is the battery tray contacts. My frantic customers have broken them several times jamming batteries in sideways. Maybe curl the sides of the contacts more so when they do try and sideways insert it might take the battery without snapping off. Other than that, these handles have been rock solid in the many live performances I have used them on.
