Designed for recording engineers who want an updated take on the classic '73-style unit, the Black Lion Audio B173 mkII is a single-channel preamp with a warm, creamy, 1970s tone. It's suitable for recording vocals, keyboards, guitars, basses, and more.

This preamp gives you a half-rack package, with an XLR connection for microphones and a 1/4" jack for line-level or Hi-Z instruments. The output connection is handled by the 1/4" TRS output on the rear of the unit.

The unit offers a stepped input gain knob to ensure repeatability. It'll provide you with up to 70 dB of gain. You'll find controls for phantom power and polarity, while a Hi-Z switch will allow you to plug in your favorite guitar or bass for a DI recording.

The preamp utilizes a creamy CineMag transformer for that classic velvety '73-style sound. The output control is situated after the transformer. So, if you wished, you could drive the signal hard with the gain knob for a harmonically rich tone, then lower the output knob to avoid clipping your digital converter downstream.

[Switchable] I took delivery of my micro clock just before Christmas. It's been 2 weeks and I have never been happier. Those who essentially say that a clock has little to no real benefit to a high-end/pro interface, need to have their heads read. My Focusrite Red 4Pre has never sounded better both in studio application and as a sound card to my desktop PC. All my music sounds so much better and my recordings sound better than it ever has. It sounds cleaner, crisper, moves me every time I use my 4Pre. It sounds like I got a significant upgrade to my home studio setup, which is what this clock does. I have what I have been looking for and thoroughly enjoying it!! 5

[5.46 lb] Black Lion has done it again by making a great little preamp. I've owned Black Lion's more expensive 4-channel B173 preamp before, but I like this Auteur MKIII even more than that one because it's simpler to use and sounds just as great. Its black color and wonderful design is great to look at, too -- very beautiful. I'm very happy with this purchase. 5

[Up to +70 dB] I am a union voice actor and have for the past 12 years, used the Audient family when it came to interface choice. I looked for a long time for a change. Nothing wrong with Audient, all the contrary. But, I got bored and looked at too many reviews and videos. I finally decided to go with the BL 2x2 regardless of what a couple of people on YouTube said about the noise floor. I cannot tell you how glad I am that I bought this. My audient was super quiet and flat, but that's it. It's on par with the majority of interfaces in the price range and does the job fine. This interface, however, takes to a whole other level. It has the same sound as when I step into a multi-million dollar L.A. studio to do a gig. Now, yes, on the wave file on Adobe Audition I can see some noise. But, it doesn't come out at all on the recordings. None! It has got me twice the amount of work that I had with Audient, and at the end of the day, that's what counts for me. Such an amazing interface, and the sound, wow!!! The quality of the build far exceeds that of many that I have used in the past as well. I would dare say that this can go up against ANY interface out there in a professional studio and it will be an incredible asset to any voice-over talent looking to up their game. 5

[Switchable] Tried BLA's clock on an avid VENUE SC48 and the difference is noticeable There was no way to connect an Lexicon outboard gear MPX1 to the console digitally if we didn't have the micro-clock Good investment 5

[Switchable] This little baby changed the whole sound of the studio it was recommended by an electronics engineer. We plugged it on the BNC of the clock-in of a Yamaha 02R and this console rejuvenated ! Never thought a clock generator can do this amount of change amazing... 5
