Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Would this cable only work on RED or would it work on any other cameras with a Mini XLR input (say BMPCC 4K)?

A: I am not using my cable on a camera, but am using it on a Velodyne subwoofer with a calibration mike. Since it is a standard gender changer, I don't see why it would not work on your camera. I purchased mine because the mini XLR connector on my Velodyne is recessed and other cables I tried would not fit in the recessed hole. This cable is very well made.

Q: 2. Ok so I read here that the Solo streams to the solo portal at a set 5 secs delay. The stream is then sent to whatever destination we requested. OK, with that said, does that mean there are additional latency delays? So a 5 second delay and then the destination delay? IF that is what I read what is the total delay for the latency? That might make it harder for LIVE Q&A engagement.. Thanks for any feedback

A: There may be additional delays depending on the strength of the network signal on the other end. However you would need to test this out to see what those additional delays may be.

Q: 3. Does this unit bond the download as well. If I am downloading content onsite will i get the use of all attached internet sources?

A: Unfortunately, the LiveU Solo does not bond the download.

Q: 4. What does the Micro SD Card do? Can you record to it from this device?

A: The SD card slot is disabled on the LiveU Solo. Recording is not a feature for this device.

Q: 5. Does the LiveU Solo ship with a universal power adaptor? Meaning if I brought here could I use in Australia straight out of the box?

A: The LiveU Solo ships with a U.S. power adaptor. You would need a US to Australia power converter to use it in that country. Thank you for your question.

Q: 6. Will this item work with the red epic camera?

A: This product is meant for cameras that have 1/4 TRS inputs for audio. The 3.5mm stereo cable is for a headphone return only. This would not work with the Red Epic, however we do have the A-Box from Wooden Camera that will work with the Red Epic.

Q: 7. The $45 monthly fee is for bonding, then I need cellular subscriptions as well? I add the sim cards to the LiveU Solo? How many can I add?

A: You will have to pay for a cellular subscription as well as the bonding fee. The bonding allows you to connect 2 Cellular Networks along with 1 WiFi and 1 Ethernet Signal. You can connect 2 Cellular Modems.

Q: 8. LiveU Solo - What other cost is incurred to use this Product? A monthly Fee? How much?

A: In order to utilize the bonding technology of LiveU Reliable Transport, LRT, which bonds multiple connections (2 cellular, Ethernet, and Wi-Fi) a monthly cost of $45 is required. The cellular USB modems are sold separately and usually require a Data Plan. You can utilize the device as a one connection RTMP encoder for no extra cost.

Q: 9. Do 5G USB modems exist? Looking at LiveU devices but wondering if they exist at all.

A: The LiveU LU300S Encoder Field Unit with 4 x 4G/5G Modems BH #LILU300S5G4G • MFR #LU300S-5G-2-4G-2 comes with 4 x 4G/5G modems.

Q: 10. How is this unit powered?

A: An AC power supply is included in the box with this camera.

I have owned and used weveral different brands of snakes, Whirlwind is my favorite. I own 2 of the 16x4 150' and 2 100'. the fanouts are nice and long, everything is sturdy, the craftsmanship is top notch and consistent across the 4 I own, even though they were bought years apart. These things are heavy. You will get strong if you handle them a lot.

The audio quality across them seems fine. I don't notice any degradation, like I have with other lesser brands, though I haven't done any a/b testing with short hi-fidelity cabes. These feed Allen and Heath GL2800 and ZED436 consoles from mostly Shure SM57,57, or Super 55 mics or active sources, and sound quite nice for that type of mic. I haven't put them to the test with my nicer recording mics.

I bought the 150 footers in 2017, to upgrade the older 100 footers, being just a tad short in our theatre. All work perfectly after years of use. I am the one who uses them, and I am gentle with them. I don't let people roll carts or vehicles on them, and keep them stored in air conditioned spaces when not in use.

I was interested in the possible sound quality difference between this 50' cable and a really short one (3 to 18). I did a test recording in stereo with the left channel using my really short one (Kopul Coiled 3-Pin XLR-M to Angled 3-Pin XLR-F Cable (3 to 18)) and the right channel using this 50' cable coiled on the floor. I kept mics and recorder exactly the same for the experiment and rotated my setup in the room halfway through in case there was one side of the room that was better than another.

By ear I can detect no difference between the two sides in the recording. Both had no discernible hiss when recording a vocalist.

Fantastic!!

Solid way to send up to 10 SDI signals in one strand. Well built, no problems so far.

These are perfect snakes. We have them running in our studio, we use them in the field, precisely zero failures unlike so many other snakes we've used. We don't use it with AES or digital audio, just traditional analog audio from an M32 XLR out, and never had noise introduced even with a 4-pin XLR DC power cable running along the length of it, so the shielding is good as well.
