This 2 to 5-stop, 62mm Freewell Variable ND Filter Kit 62mm - All-Day Useis designed to mount onto lenses with 62mm front filter threads and provides an exposure reduction of 2 to 5-stops. Its 0.6 to 1.5 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally possible. The degree of density is easily controlled by rotating the front filter ring, helping you to predetermine the additional exposure length required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field or add motion blur. For easier, repeatable control over density settings, the front ring is visually demarcated with numbers representing the different stop values and features side knurlings to further enable fast and precise positioning.

This filter is constructed from Schott B270 glass for enhanced clarity and color fidelity. Each glass surface is multi-coated to help eliminate internal ghosting and reflections. The Freewell 62mm Standard Day Variable Neutral Density 0.6 to 1.5 Filter is also coated for resistance to oil, dust, and scratches, offering greater protection to the filter and helping it to stay clean for longer than with uncoated filters. The coatings are hydrophobic as well, resulting in an improved beading effect when in contact with water for greater cleaning efficiency.

Variable neutral density filter allows you to apply differing amounts of density from scene to scene.

0.6 to 1.5 neutral density filter darkens the image, allowing you to photograph with a longer shutter speed or wider aperture than normally possible.

Providing a reduction of 2 to 5 stops, this filter allows you to control depth of field and convey movement more easily.

Offers increased flexibility to use specific ISO settings or ISO films under bright ambient light.

Provides increased exposure flexibility while using cinema or video cameras within a designated film frame rate.

Constructed from Schott B270 glass for increased optical clarity as well as color fidelity.

Multi-coated to prevent internal ghosting and reflections

Coated for oil, static, dirt, as well as scratch resistance and provides an improved beading effect with water for more efficient cleaning.

Aluminum alloy filter ring assembly for durability while remaining lightweight.

Side knurlings along the front filter ring allow the filter glass to be easily rotated.

Front filter ring is visually demarcated with numbers to help ensure that its rotation corresponds to the filter's exposure reduction range.

Includes storage case, magnetic lens cap, plus a microfiber cloth for cleaning and maintenance.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this have hard stops?

A: Yes it does.

Q: 2. May i know what is the full diameter of the filter for 67mm, 72mm, 77mm, and 82mm?

A: Sorry I can't measure precisely but the system is no larger than standard filters. The diameter is about 2mm larger than the thread size and flush with the lens barrel. The magnetic system is built in to the rim of the filters so it does not take additional space.

Q: 3. Is this VND "clear" or "off" before turning to position 2 or higher?

A: No. There is no way to turn it "off". The minimum filter factor / density would be 0.6 / 2-stops and 1.8 / 6-stops.

Q: 4. Do any or Freewell VND filters have IR filtration? IF so which systems and which wavelengths are filtered? Thanks

A: No, there are no Variable ND filters that are also IR that we are aware of.

Q: 5. is it possible to stack more filters on top?

A: According to information from Freewell, the front of this filter is unthreaded, meaning you won't be able to stack filters on top of it. You could mount some filters behind it, but we recommend not stacking too many as it could lead to unwanted results. Your mileage may vary.

Q: 6. If I buy a 95 mm filter, will it work with a 58mm and 72 mm lens if I use Step up rings?

A: Yes, if you buy a 95 mm filter, it will work with a 58 and 72 mm lens if you use step up rings but remember that with the step up rings you can't attach the lens hood.

Q: 7. can you attach another filter like a blackpro mist or moment cinebloom?

A: Theses filters do not have front threads, if the other filter you are using has front threads, then you can stack these on top.

Q: 8. Does these have 82mm threads on the front to attach a lens hood?

A: I'm sorry, no.

Q: 9. What about vignetting with a sony gm 16-35mm lens ?

A: The 16-35mm GM already has a slight vignette at 16mm if you shoot RAW with profile corrections in-camera turned off. If you enable it, the vignette would be removed. Alternatively Lightroom/Capture One automatically removes it with the profile corrections it has. The filter itself is very well made and will not cause a vignette.

Q: 10. Does this have a front thread?

A: Yes this filter has a front thread.

[Aluminum] Got this for my trip to the Pacific North-West. Took this to multiple national parks in Washington and Oregon. They worked as advertised and even after some rough handling have not had any scratches yet.

If I had to purchased this again, I can confidently state that I will get the same product again 100%. Thanks B&H for shipping me this item quickly before my trip begun.

[0.615 lb] This is a great comparison for the other brand that is too expensive. Sometimes name/brand will think twice. But for me buying 1 VND compare to freewell 2 VND already, its a great winning choice. love this filter.

[0.615 lb] These are better than any similar variable ND I've used. They are better built, spin smoother, and look better too.

[Aluminum] The build quality on these filters is excellent. There is almost no wiggle in the rings when at either end of the adjustment range, and the rotating action is very smooth. A little hard to tell from the photos, but the filters are VERY thin. The magnetic lens caps are a nice touch, and sit quite firmly. I'm not at all worried about knocking them off, carrying between shots, in and out of vehicles, etc.

When tightened onto the filter ring of my lens, the numbered markings line up roughly with the top and bottom of the lens, which is handy... but bear in mind, the numbers do not seem to correlate with true stops, for exposure purposes. They act only as a fairly arbitrary frame of reference.

In terms of color, there is a bit of a shift as you move through the stops. This is present in all variable ND's to a certain extent, but I can say these are some of the best I've used in this price range. There is a slight green shift on both, and on my set, it seems to be most apparent in the 2-5 stop filter, shifting somewhat warm as you increase the density. Something to keep in mind if you need to change density mid-shot, which could potentially complicate a color grade in post.

There is very little loss in sharpness. Cheaper alternatives will often turn your image kind of muddy, but these seem to hold up pretty well.

Lastly, I know these are not the cheapest on the market, but it's nice to see they have included decent hard cases (fairly compact and portable, I might add), along with some very smartly designed magnetic lens caps. Not an issue if you have a system for other filters when you're on the go, but just as they come, I'm not worried at all about protecting the filters when they are on or off of the lens.
