This Cooke 85mm Anamorphic/i 1.8x Full Frame PL Macro Lensprovides an anamorphic version of the classic, natural yet sharp "Cooke look". Designed for both digital cinema and film use, the Cooke Anamorphic/i Full Frame Plus primes cover image formats up to full frame. Each prime lens provides a 1.8x squeeze that rides a sweet spot between optimal pixel capture and a classic anamorphic look. For maximum optical performance, aberration, flare, and distortion control extend over the entire image area and throughout the 85mm's T2.3-T22 aperture range. The Anamorphic/i Full Frame Plus primes are color-balanced and color-matched with other Cooke lens series.

Each lens sports both a hardened PL mount and a cable connection that uses Cooke's /i Technology to transmit lens data to compatible cameras. Lens setting data, including focal length, aperture, focus, depth of field, and more, is provided in both feet and metric measurements.

The 85mm Anamorphic/i Plus Macro prime lens features a close 7" minimum focus from the lens front, engraved focus markings in feet on one side and meters on the other, and a hard, anodized finish. The lens is constructed with 0.8 MOD geared focus and iris rings, for use with follow focus, zoom control, and wireless FIZ systems. A large lens barrel with 270° of rotation, an increased number of focus marks, and Cooke's cam-style focus movement enable precise focus pulls. Most of the Cooke anamorphic series share a common 110mm size front diameter but this 85mm macro has a 136mm front.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Are this lens good for photography?

A: The Viltrox EPIC T2 1.33x Full-Frame Anamorphic 3-Lens Set (PL Mount) is a cinema lens set designed for video use, so they won't have auto focus or any digital communication with the camera that is typically found in stills lenses, but if that isn't an issue for you, then sure, these lenses could be good for photography.

Q: 2. Is the image circle 43mm? (same as the 85?)

A: Vazen has not provided an exact measurement for the image circle on their 50mm T2.1 1.8x Full-Frame Anamorphic Lens, but it does cover RED Open Gate and Alexa LF Open Gate. Therefore, it is at least 46.31mm.

Q: 3. Is there a Canon EF Adapter for the PL Mount?

A: Viltrox does not have an EF adapter for the Viltrox EPIC 25mm T2 1.33x Full-Frame Anamorphic Lens (PL Mount) at this time.

Q: 4. Is the lens mount user-changeable? IE if I later wanted to use this lens on a PL mount camera, would it be possible to switch out the lens mount?

A: The Sirui Jupiter 28-85mm T3.2 Full Frame Macro Cine Zoom Lens' (EF Mount) mount is not user-changeable.

Q: 5. Macro?

A: The Sirui Jupiter 28-85mm T3.2 Full Frame Macro Cine Zoom Lens (EF Mount) (B&H# SIJUPITRZMEF) offers focusing as close as 2.3' (70.1cm) from an unspecified point in the lens. The magnification at that distance and any available focal length would not typically be considered to fit the typical concept of a specialized macro lens, but it is closer-focusing and offers higher magnification than certain other parfocal cinema lenses.

Q: 6. Will this lens remain parfocal if used with a speedbooster (Canon EF Lens to BMPCC4K T)? SpeedBooster) on a MFT camera?

A: When using a speed booster on a Parfocal lens like the Sirui Jupiter 28-85mm T3.2 Full Frame Macro Cine Zoom Lens (EF Mount) it should not effect the parfocal capabilities of the lens.

Q: 7. Will this lens work perfectly with Lumix S1H?

A: This lens has a Leica L mount, which does not allow it to inherently work perfectly with the S1H.

Q: 8. Will these lenses cover open gate on a mini LF?

A: Yes, the Viltrox EPIC T2 1.33x Full-Frame Anamorphic 5-Lens Set (PL Mount) will cover Open Gate on the ARRI ALEXA Mini LF.

Q: 9. Can it be paired with the Metabones PL to Rf 0.71x?

A: The Viltrox EPIC T2 1.33x Full-Frame Anamorphic 3-Lens Set (PL Mount) have not been tested with the Metabones PL to RF. However, since the Viltrox lenses offer a PL mount they should work. Metabones ARRI PL Lens to Canon RF-Mount T Cine Speed Booster ULTRA 0.71x (EOS-R) BH #MESPPLEFRBT1

Q: 10. What is the front filter thread size?

A: Sirui shows the filter size is 110mm.

[85mm] Excellent budget anamorphic lens. It works exceptionally well with my Sony A7sIII full frame camera. The Viltrox DC-X3 on camera monitor just complements the whole setup. It has exec 1.6 de-squeeze factor to help you compose every shot.

[ARRI PL] Surprisingly amazing little anamorphic lens. Sharp & full of character when paired with the Red Komodo.

[T2.8] The results of the Anamorphic lens on the R5c are amazing. The lens has the right amount of sharpness. The bokeh and the lens flares add a nice look to your film. I plan on buying the 75mm version when it is released :)

[ARRI PL] I am not really able to compare it to the others in the set yet… but it’s a safe bet this is the weakest of the 4 or 3if FF only. Partially just from to the focal length not conveying the look as strong as the wider lenses but also it really works best stopped down a tad…as it’s rather soft wide open. However I am def still very impressed by the overall quality and quality of these… they don’t feel cheap just small … shockingly small. The 100mm in PL is smaller than my RF 50mm f1.2! Impressed by this but it comes at the cost of some obvious chromatic aberrations… still for the money this is great and 1.5x may seem to enough squeeze the bokeh and flares look very anamorphic to my eyes shockingly so.
If you order just one maybe the 45mm 65mm or if your on smaller than 17mm high S35 sensors… get the 35mm . This lens great but don’t make it your only option.

[Yes] Bought these to use with various cameras to get an anamorphic feel. I really like the look. They aren’t super sharp but fairly well built for the price, have a nice character and actually give a cinematic look. Maybe not 2 x character but for the price I love them.

[1.8x] This lens is awesome, and produces clean images with real cinematic effects. I have the entire set (35mm, 50mm, 75mm, 100mm, 135mm, 150mm plus the 1.25 adapter that produces a 2x squeeze when paired with the 1.6x anamorphic squeeze of the lenses). The lenses produce uniform colors all throughout the set, and images are sharp wide open at T2.9. Somehow SIRUI has managed to make these primes sharp wide open, but not too sharp, given you that movie like look without any diffusion filters on the front of your lens. If you haven't tried the anamorphic look, you have no idea what your projects are missing. As result of purchasing this set, my G Masters and spherical Cine primes are collecting dust. The SIRUI 1.6x T 2.9 Venus Anamorphic lenses are a great set of glass.

[85mm] .I would characterize myself as an amateur filmmaker, or at least a serious hobbyist, who has had no experience with cinematic lenses. This lens was an absolute blast to experiment with. It's a solidly built metal body, with smooth-turning geared focus and aperture rings. It is manual focus, but with the use of focus peaking, very sharp images can be achieved. Not coming from a cinema background, T-stops are a bit mysterious to me, but the wide T2.9 aperture (which I've read is roughly equivalent to f2.1) allows lower ISOs in low light conditions. A nice bonus is the inclusion of a lens pouch. For an example from my first shoot with this lens, visit https://youtu.be/462z64lIzUc. I look forward to playing much more with this fun lens.

[ARRI PL] I bought a set of Viltrox anamorphic lenses, which are amazing, but I wanted something smaller and lighter for my FX6/Ronin 4D. These Blazar lenses are a lot of fun. I only have the 65 so far, which I find wide enough for most situations without having the issues in the corners that the 45 had. Waiting to try out their new ones, I just need something slightly wider and another slightly tighter. Waiting to hear what they say about the new additions.

[T22] I've only done tests on location with these before the shoot I've been planning next week... These lenses have a dreamy, droopy, anamorphic look wide open, but I wouldn't suggest using them wide open unless you need a dreamy look. Super soft wide open. At T2.8 it gets better but T4 is where it actually gets sharp. For more context, I'm shooting on a C70, and we know that camera is on the softer side...

Aperture/Focus rings are smooth and a pleasure to use.

Focus breathing is not great, but depending on the shot your going after, it could be ok. They do some funky things when panning or handheld. I plan to use these lenses mostly locked off, on a slider, dolly, etc for nice smooth controlled shots with an artistic look.

Definitely recommend.
