Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. If I buy the broadcast kit do all of the parts come in their original boxes or is it all repackaged together?

A: All of the parts come in their original boxes.

Q: 2. whats the best mic pre amp compressor to use ?

A: Preamp and compressor quality and sound is highly subjective. The SM7B seems to require a significant amount of gain for best results. The Grace M101 is a popular choice to pair with the SM7B and provides clean high gain. a href= http://bhpho.to/1wR5Lnf target= _blank http://bhpho.to/1wR5Lnf/a

Q: 3. If I use this mic with the mackie 1202vlz4 audio mixer, do I still need a pre-amp compressor?

A: That mixer has a mic preamp already so the SM7B will work fine with it.

Q: 4. Does this mic require phantom power?

A: This is a dynamic microphone, so no power is required. The SM7B is known to have a low gain output, so often a gain booster is used with the mic to give you more headroom and to avoid any noise in the signal. When using a gain booster, such as the Coudlifter, phantom power is required to power that unit.

Q: 5. Is the barrel of this microphone steel or plastic?

A: It's metal

Q: 6. Why can't you ship the Shure SM7B to Australia?

A: This is a restriction placed on all USA authorized Shure dealers and enforced by SHURE USA.

Q: 7. I have this microphone (Shure SM7B) - connected via an XLR cable/connector to a 28s pream/processor, then - from there via an xlr/cable connector into the XLR receptical (Mic1) into a Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 - USB Audio Interface box - then into the PC via a USB connector from the Focusrite (which I use just for the interface to the PC). I can't seem to get enough power out of the microphone for the levels to be at a normal (-12db) level in my recording software (Audition, and/or Captivate 8). I leave all of the processing in the 286 off... and just use the preamp phantom power feed to the microphone of 48v, with a 3/4 of total gain, then I also added gain at the Scarlite USB interface redbox. Still not enough to hear the microphone clearly. Any coaching tips? (Novice here). I've also tried adding gain -

A: As this is a dynamic microphone, no additional pre-amp or phantom power is requires. make sure phantom power on your interface is switched OFF . Recheck your cables for continuity as well.

Q: 8. Shure SM7B will work with the Roland R-26 recorder? Shure reports that SM7B requires a minimum of 59 dB gain. Rolnad R-26 in the specification has a -62dBu output level.

A: The DB range looks good on paper but you're going to be maxed out and get a quiet level that will make buying such a nice mic pointless. You'll need a pre-amp like a Cloudlifter or a Triton Audio Fethead in-line preamp (the cheaper option). Do NOT use phantom power on the Shure SM7B unless you want to ruin it. I use my Shure SM7B in my home studio with a DBX 286s preamp/processor. It's about $200 but it makes my audio national broadcast quality.

Q: 9. Does it come with stand

A: No , a stand is extra

Q: 10. How about feedback? Does it get much feedback?

A: No, the PGA58 is not prone to feedback. Its cardioid polar pattern focuses on the user's voice while rejecting unwanted background noise and delivers a clear and natural tone.

[Solid-State] I was on a tight budget and needed two additional mics. I would ordinarily buy the standard Shure SM58, but a B&H rep pointed out that the PGA58 Is a similar professional level model, and 60% of the price. I used an SM58 and the two new PGA58s in an outdoor concert, and could not tell the difference. The SM58 may be a bit more sturdy (it's known to be indestructible), but the PGA58 was excellent for the occasion!

[End Address] This is the perfect mic for the price. Looking for something to do interviews on the fly and didn't need to spend $100 on an SM58. This is the perfect choice since it's still solid a a rock, sounds amazing, and has most of the features of the 58 without the price tag.

[End Address] I purchased this for my daughter recently to use with an audio interface. The quality of the microphone is on par with the SM58 I am used to, with a great balance in the hand and a nice audio response.

This is a rugged piece of equipment with a great pedigree.

[Mono] I purchased this microphone for rehearsals but might end up using for live shows as well. The quality from this mic is outstanding. I have a wireless sm58 as well, but wanted something that I didn’t mind getting dinged up. If you’re looking for something affordable with quality, then this mic is the one to go for. Although the bigger brother sm58 May have a little edge over the sm48, but not much at all.

[Cardioid] As a creator on a budget, this fits the bill for Shure quality and a great price. Perfect compliment to my other dynamic microphones.

[6.15 lb] I bought this to replace some ancient mics for poetry readings. Solidly built (as expected from Shure) and sound was good and warmer than the vintage mics it replaced. None of the readers or emcee had any issue with the range of pick-up as another reviewer mentioned.

[On/Off] Really glad to have these two mics in my life. They are not as great as the beta SM 58, but these mics definitely hold their own. Really clean crisp sound and great control and reception. No feedback even if they come close to the speakers and they have and awesome range.

[On/Off] Used for live sound with Allen & Heath WZ4 and QSC 16 kW system. Clear and crisp, very controlable especially going into low note vocals. This is a new purchase. Will have to see how it performs a few more times.

[Cardioid] Bought this mic for denon prime for cause it's a headache to keep reaching over the entire board to turn the mic on and off. Works perfectly. Good sound and heavy duty. Worth the buy.
