QNAP NAS with QTS / QuTS hero 4.5.1 or later or PC/server running Windows Server 2019. Host systems must have at least one mini-SAS HD (SFF-8644) port available.

SAS DataBolt uses an intelligent data buffer for transferring data to drives at speeds that match the performance of the host NAS or server. Even if you have 6 Gb/s drives installed, the host will always transfer data at 12 Gb/s.

Daisy chained enclosures can use multipath routing to automatically switch data transmission routes when one fails due to a malfunctioning port or cable to help ensure uninterrupted operation. The TL-R1620SEP-RP also features a redundant 550W power supply to ensure system uptime.

Up to 16 expansion enclosures can be daisy chained together via high-speed mini-SAS cables, using link aggregation to deliver speeds of up to 96 Gb/s and 4.6PB of raw storage capacity. The TL-R1620SEP-RP supports TL SAS JBODs with NAS and server systems. The EXP SAS JBOD configuration may be used with NAS devices.

Installing the Storage & Snapshot Manager onto your NAS allows you to manage your storage space by configuring RAID groups, storage pools, and snapshots. You can also set up the JBOD as a storage volume for the host NAS to quickly expand your storage.

The QNAP JBOD Manager app can be used to divide your server's storage space into four separate zones, allowing different host servers access to only one zone through specific mini SAS ports. The app also provides operating status and connection topology information in addition to letting you update the firmware of all connected TL-R1620SEP-RP enclosures.

This 3 RU rackmount enclosure may be quickly installed onto standard server racks or small AV cabinets.

[36 dBA] I recently built yet another video editing PC. Previously I combined them with an external SAS Raid. This time, I populated 3 of these cages with 2TB SSDs (24 TB total) and used an Areca ARC-1883ix-12, and put them inside the PC case. Doing this saved me 3-4K over my usual raid costs.

[37.015 lb] I bought this because I am transitioning from spinning disks to 2 1/2 inch SSDs and when this arrived I was impressed by how well it was made, its ease of installation and the fact that for 4 SSDs I only needed 1 power cord thus reducing some of the clutter of cables inside my case by 3.   The fan has 3 settings, automatic, low and high and is attached to the rear of the unit and really quiet.   Good price for a great little unit.

[Yes] I searched and researched for the perfect NAS unit. I finally settled on the QNAP TS-1655 because of unlimited options of future upgrades like maxing out the RAM memory to 128 GBs, the 2 M.2 hard drive ports you can designate to the system cache, not to mention the 16 hard drive bays. I already added 2
Samsung 1TB 970 EVO Plus NVMe M.2Samsung and 64GB of RAM memory with plans to add 2 more to max out the four memory slots on the QNAP TS-1655 16-Bay NAS Enclosure. I am very happy with this purchase.

[37.015 lb] I have been waiting for this for so long. Lots of drives, lots of power, BUT it is quiet. It isn't built for a server rack with huge fans that are so loud a person can't comfortably work in the same room. It is about 15 feet away from me in my main color suite and I don't notice it.

I have multiple computers working off it at the same time and have no problems at all. My color computer has 2x 10G ethernet connections to it so I realistically get about 1900GB/s to it read and write. Plenty for Sony X-OCN or Arri Raw.

Full of 22TB drives so I have about 198TB after formatting in RAID6.

[3x 80 mm Fans] This enclosure was a great add-on to my QNAP TS-832X. Added 8 more hard drive bays over 2 SAS cables. Great bang for your buck!

[Yes] I have this connected to my TVS-472XT and and have it configured in one RAID5 x 4 array and another RAID10 x 4 array. The RAID5 array consists of 4 high-performance HDD's which I use as a backup volume to the host TVS-472XT. The RAID10 is a mix of cheaper desktop drives that I've recovered that I use for temporary storage of large files.

The TVS-472XT has had no trouble managing the multiple RAID configurations on this external device and I've have the QNAP backup manager completing nightly automatic backups to it nightly for over a year now without any connectivity issues. It really has been set-and-forget.

We are purchasing another to use with our office TVS-1272XT.

[Yes] What can I say other then absolutely superb device add=on to existing QNAP NAS. QNAP is really outstanding NAS system, and they continue to make their products exactly what you want them to be.

[36 dBA] This unit is an incredible value. ZFS for network storage with ECC memory is exactly what you want. It has a powerful processor that also has embedded graphics. The GPU pass through for VM's works with the current version of QUTS Hero. In case the outdated review saying PCI-E pass-though to virtualization station doesn't work was deterring you and making you look at the 12 bay model, that is no longer valid. It didn't work at launch, but QNAP resolved that.

It has several expansion slots, 12x 3.5" bays, 4x 2.5" bays, and 2x NVMe slots, and a dual 10GB NIC out of the box. You can get a small form factor bracket for the NIC and move it to the expansion ports on the other side to free up the full size slot for a GPU or other full size expansion card.
I like that the 32GB of RAM is only using 2x 16GB sticks, so you can double or triple your memory without wasting the expensive ECC memory that comes with it. I personally added a 64GB (2x 32GB) kit and have 96GB of ram with a dedicated GPU. It has a power connector included for more power consuming GPU's.
It just makes more sense than the 12 bay. You get 4x extra HDD bays and double the RAM. When you go to expand your 12 bay or have to upgrade the RAM, you will realize you should have just bought the 16 bay. You will spend way more on storage than the NAS itself, so it's worth getting a good NAS.

The new all flash desktop NAS QNAP recently came out with, the TH-S1290FX (all flash) is the only thing more powerful at the moment in desktop form at the time of writing this. They each have their own uses.

The only real downside to this or any QNAP NAS is that they do not have the best support. Synology's support is better, but not great. Synology is also turning in to an "Apple" like anti consumer company, that is trying to force you to use only their hard drives and "official" components.

[Yes] Is working great in my HP Z820, was able to use 4 SSD in RAID 0 and it is blasing fast! Almost 1GB/s. Plastic feel a bit week but since it sit in place, should not cause any issue.

[AC Adapter] I purchased the device to store some of my work files. There are many features within the program that came with the device. It is also easy to use and does not require prior knowledge. Anyone can deal with it.
