The Arca-Swiss Monoball P0+ Hybrid Classic Tripod Headfrom Arca Swiss is an unconventional ball head with minimalist design built with portability, ease of operation, and performance in mind. The Monoball p0+ has an inverted, aspheric-shaped ball, which increases resistance as the camera is tilted further from the horizontal plane, stabilizing a heavy camera or long telephoto lens mounted on the head. Turning the highly-visible knurled collar on the body will lock even a large camera firmly in place; no need to fumble for the locking knob that may be out of sight. The unique design of the head has negated the need for any lubricating grease that can work against the user and produce "head creep", which can lead to a tripod and camera tipping over.

The p0+ incorporates two self-locking geared leveling mechanisms that can be continuously adjusted by up to 10°, which are arranged at right angles on the x-axis and y-axis perpendicular to each other. This allows the head to be quickly leveled without having to reset the tripod legs. The p0+ has also incorporated four locking points into the panorama swivel, which ensures that the fine adjustment of the gear can be carried out at a neat 90° angles.

Inside the head three locking "planets" clamp firmly around the ball, applying even force on all sides. This design ensures that all camera movements are smooth in any axis. The inverted ball design provides greater stability in keeping the camera's center of gravity closer to the center of the ball. The p0+ allows for a full 90° of tilt. Placing the head's panning system directly below the camera ensures that the panning motion is directly aligned with the camera itself and does not deviate from the same plane.

Locking operation is facilitated by simply turning the highly visible knurled ring on the body of the head. It is easy to feather control between loose and firm lock.

Situating the panning mechanism directly below the camera plate, instead of in the base of the head, means that the pan is always in the same plane as the camera.

10° leveling capability on X-axis and Y-axis.

The aspheric shape of the ball provides progressive resistance to tipping and can prevent accidents.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will the Peak Design Capture V3 plate work with this?

A: Yes, the Peak Design Capture Camera Clip v3 is compatible with the Arca-Swiss Monoball p0 Ball Head with Classic Quick Release.

Q: 2. With the upside down ball, if the camera is level, will it remain level during a panorama, or is a leveling base still necessary if one does not want to level the entire tripod?

A: It would remain leveled during a panorama. I personally use this ballhead and it has a little panning lever so that you can pan around 360 degrees without having to loosen the ballhead. A leveling base might be better if you really need to nail your levels but it's not necessary.

Q: 3. Should I buy this Arca-Swiss with the classic screw mount or get the head without the clamp and use an old Kirk 2.4 clamp with a level that can be seen when a camera with a plate is mounted on the head?

A: The screw mount or lever mount is a matter of personal preference, either one will work well.

Q: 4. I'm pretty heavily invested with the Manfrotto 200PL plates and mounting system-will this item accept the 200PL plates?

A: No.

Q: 5. Hi thereI definitely want to purchase the p0 bullhead and possibly in the near future the cube, but for now just the p0. The problem I have is that I am coming from manfrotto and have absolutely no knowledge of the quick release plates made by arca swiss. It appears that there are several different types of arca swiss quick release plate i can order from your store. Which is the best all round? Which would give me the best integration if i purchased a different tripod head (such as the cube ) in the future? We cannot purchase arca swiss in New Zealand so i can't physically see what i am buying. I want a long term solution that would cover multiple heads and as many accessories as possible. Which of the p0 quick release /plate combinations would you most recommend? Thanks very much

A: The Arca-Swiss tripod/quick release system is more or less a universal quick release system for many different tripod manufacturers that do not use their own proprietary quick release system (e.g., Manfrotto). I advise the P0 ballhead with the classic quick release, as this quick release system will be adaptable to numerous heads.

Q: 6. does it has panning function? does it good for Sony A7R2? any other ball head with panning system suggest?

A: It's design makes it an inherently accurate panning head IE-the ball on the bottom, the panning on the top. Once the camera is level, the pan will be level.

Q: 7. Would this ballhead be of an appropriate size to put atop a Gitzo GT1545T Carbon Fiber Tripod?

A: Probably. I have the GT2543L which it fits well. Easy to use. Not too bulky. Not sure how much smaller the 1545 is though.

Q: 8. Can anyone recommend a universal L bracket to use with this ball head? I was considering the Arca-Swiss

A: I use sunway l brackets and am very pleased.

Q: 9. p0 vs p0+ ? Can't find a p0+ review...

A: The difference between the Arca-Swiss Monoball p0 Ball Head with Classic Quick Release and the Arca-Swiss Monoball P0+ with Classic Quick Release is that the P0+ has a friction control. You can preset the friction level and find it again as soon as you untighten the tightening ring.

Q: 10. What is the base diameter of the P0?

A: I measured mine at 2.125 inches or 53mm. I use it with a Sirui N-2204x and it fits really well.

[Ball Head] The Best

[10°] I've never liked ballheads but this sounded like a good combination of geared and ball features so I gave it a try. It's great. The ballhead lets you very quickly find approximate setting and then use the gears to quickly fine tune your composition.

This is my first Arca-Swiss head and I'm very impressed by the machining and engineering. My whole rig is very solid now. It's a huge improvement over Manfrotto equipment.

I use the Ruggard 6x4.5 lens case (BH# RULCY16X4) to transport the head. It's the perfect size and provides more than enough padding and protection.

[Yes] The Arca-Swiss Monoball P0+Hybrid Classic is a hefty robust tripod head which combines the ease of a ball type head with the precision of a geared head. It was a huge upgrade from my basic tripod head and it makes my workflow a easier.

[Yes] The most perfect ball head - love it! Works so smooth, holds heavy camera & lens with ease. Truly worth the investment.

[Yes] I really like ball heads for their ease of use and ability to set up quickly. However, if any small adjustments are needed after initial tightening of the ball, it means loosening the entire ball and readjusting the entire equipment. This is especially true when using long &/or heavy lenses/cameras. The entire rig may then (usually does!) move a lot. The solution: get this ball head that has the ability to make small geared movements after tightening down the ball. BTW, the tightening mechanism on this ball works really great, and really doesn't allow for any significant movement after it's tightened.

[Yes] This head is unique in functionality and a joy to use. It is hard o compare with any other head because there is nothing like it. It is a ball head and a geared head with limited 15 degrees of pitch and roll movements. I currently focus more on landscape, architecture, and panoramas using my tilt-shift lenses. Of course, the Arca is not my first head, but it is the most expensive one. I have a leveling base, a ball head, a fluid head, and a geared head from Benro. I gravitated towards geared heads for landscape and architecture, and I initially got the Benro GD3WH which is almost one-fifth of the price. However, the Benro was clunky and got in the way, especially for landscape. Using it was not fun. The P0 hybrid is like driving a sleek well-engineered car in comparison. Nothing is more intuitive than using the P0 hybrid's ball, and I prefer it from a regular ball head. Once you internalize the yaw, pitch, and roll controls and create a default setup that works for you, you will operate it without much thought or mistakes. So, create a default setup that you prefer and revert to it every time you finish a shot so that the next time you take a pic, you know what to turn for yaw, pitch, or roll. I haven't had stability issues when taking long exposures with mirrorless cameras, but I haven't tested it in windy conditions. I would have loved to have a geared yaw axis like the Benro, but it is ok without one once you learn to adjust your force against the head's rotating friction. The P0 hybrid is unlikely to be your first head. But if you need independent geared movements to precisely frame your shot and want something lightweight and sleek, check it out. The P0 hybrid is a tool that will add to the joy of photography and not subtract from it.

[10°] The P0-Hybrid solves the dilemma of ballhead vs. geared head controversy. The asymmetric inverted ballhead goodness of the P0 with its quick, sure positioning and one hand operation is paired with a precision geared component to give us the best of both worlds.

Yes, the geared movement s are limited but the ballhead eliminates this weakness by quickly bringing the head into the range of the geared adjustments. The movements themselves are self locking with detents at the zero points thus giving me the confidence of being able to position via the ballhead and knowing I will have the full range of movements at my disposal.
The head itself is beautifully made and the gears have no backlash. With the ballhead tightened down the head is immovable. This is critical for my work where I use multiple layers to make a final image.
The geared portion allows precise movements for critical placement of the camera with confidence that the camera will not move.
The ballhead supports 44lbs despite its small size. This is a testament to the robust construction of the head.
Overall, this is a superb solution for the architectural photographer looking for a cost effective solution to a geared head, compact dimensions without any major compromise in solidity or quality.

[Yes] I have been pleased with my Arca-Swiss monoball p0 ball head with the Slidefix QS quick release. This clamps an Arca-Swiss mounting plate with a lever action. Unfortunately it accepts only the smaller Arca-Swiss mounting plates, so I bought this version with Classic Quick Release. It has two dovetail receptacle widths and so can take both sizes of Arca-Swiss dovetail. The screw clamp is less convenient than the lever, but worth it since most vendors advertising Arca-Swiss compatible mounts mean the larger mount!
