The Arca-Swiss C1 Cube GP Geared Tripod Head MonoballFix3-axis geared tripod head from Arca-Swiss, crafted for precision movement to efficiently work with strong horizontal and vertical compositional lines often found in both architectural photography and product photography. GP stands for Geared Panning and indicates that the upper panorama can optionally be independently pivoted or rotated with fine adjustment. The Cube has two panoramic axes: the lower one at the base of the head, and the upper axis with precise horizontal movement for exacting panorama shots. The finely geared mechanism allows fine adjustment of the X and Y axes, its two setting wheels move smoothly and easily thanks to the self-locking gear mechanism.

The MonoballFix lever is easy and safe to use. Its compact design with self-closing mechanism is a real alternative to the other quick releases. All MonoballFix camera plates, L-brackets, and monorails from Arca Swiss fit into the MonoballFix quick release.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the difference between 2.2lb and 2.4lb and what are the advantages and disadvantages?

A: The difference between the Arca-Swiss C1 Cube Geared Head with Arca Classic Quick Release with GP (Geared Panning) and the Arca-Swiss C1 Cube Geared Head with Arca Classic Quick Release is that the GP version allows for both manual movement and geared movement if you wish to for a very precise rotation. There are no disadvantages to using the GP version over the classic, however the classic version is also a great option if you do not need a micrometric rotation.

Q: 2. What is the difference between the arca classic, flip-lock and Monoballfix?

A: classic: big knob to screw tight the QR plateflip-lock: flip a handle to lock the QR plate in placemonoballfix: arca swiss's proprietary QR systemI'd just go with classic, and perhaps later have authorized parties install a RRS clamp

Q: 3. Is there a way to lock the index marker just above the top panning plate so that it won't move haphazardly during panning. It doesn't stay in one place on the panning plate and it doesn't necessarily move an equal amount to the camera clamp which resides just above it? Thanks.

A: I dont know of anyway to lock the marker other than using tape.

Q: 4. Can I swap the clamp for a Really Right Stuff B2-Pro-II? Need a highly reliable way to use with my RRS brackets.

A: older models were a DIY - no longer applies, meaning they are using now a special hot glue and only an authorized repair shop can do it under warranty. The RRS knob is actually bigger than the AS, and I have no issues with AS version. OTOH, the AS quick lever clamp version has a few bad reviews

Q: 5. why is this model more expensive? what's the difference with the other ones? Is there a geared panning version with the flip-lock system? Thanks!

A: This one is more expensive because it is designed more beefy to have a higher payload. The one with the flip-lick system is BH #ARC1CQ.

Q: 6. Is it possible for me to remove the monoballFix clamp and attach my own pano clamp?thank you in advance.

A: Unfortunately, the MonoballFix clamp cannot be removed from the Arca-Swiss d4.

Q: 7. How well does the Cube work with Really Right Stuff L brackets?

A: Yes, they work excellent. :)

Q: 8. Hi guys do you know if this can be used in a 3 legged thing tripod

A: Yes, you absolutely can and will fit securely. Though please be aware that the base of the head will protrude noticeably from the center column.

Q: 9. Can this head be used to take vertical shots?

A: To easily go 90 degrees to use it vertical on the Arca-Swiss C1 Cube Geared Head with Arca Classic Quick Release with Leather Case it is best to use an L quick release plate.

Q: 10. Does this come with a quick release plate, and if so what are the specs?

A: It does not come with a camera plate. You have to buy a Arca brand or Arca compatible mounting.

[Geared Head] I use this for pictures from the roof of a highrise. I was shooting the other day in winds exceeding 20 knots and this head kept the camera rock steady. It’s easy and precise to use.
A superb piece of equipment.

[Yes] Great head, built like a tank. I got the GP because I wanted the geared precision, as it was the reason I needed a geared head. I shoot a lot of focus stacks on a heavy motorized rail, attached to a big Alien Bees Ringlight. The knobs are easy to turn and dial in your exact frame. The entire head unlocks and tilts up to 60 deg. This is the only adjustment that isn’t geared, I sort of wish it were, but at least it is under tension, so it doesn’t just flop. I couldn’t be happier with this purchase so far

[Yes] Magnificent piece of gear. I am a full-time real estate photographer. I had previously used the Manfrotto 410 Junior. The Arca Swiss C1 is the Rolex of geared heads. I am blown away with the quality and ease of use. I actually look forward to photographing every job because I just love using the C1.
Expensive? Yes. But it’s the last gearhead you’ll ever want or need. Perfection!

[90°] This is an exquisitely designed and manufactured tool. I use it mostly for macro work. Its smooth, secure operation with a heavy lens is a real joy.

[Yes] I have been a professional photographer since 1987, using 4x5 for many many years, and now 8x10 cameras. For over 20 years I used Gitzo carbon fiber legs and head, and that worked great for many years, until I decided to shop for something lighter. I knew Arca Swiss made top of the line equipment, which also carried a hefty price tag. Finally, after decades of photographing I decided to go to the highest level and buy this tripod head. AMAZING is all I can say. We spend so much money all all aspects of photography, why not let this be one of hoso

[90°] I've used it for product and landscape shoots so far, and is way better than a ball head. It's not as heavy as I was expecting it to be, and it's extremely satisfying and easy to use.

[90°] I was on the fence for a long time about getting this, primarily for macro work. I got tired of working with a ballhead so bit the bullet. I am very glad I did. It is not only incredibly well made but really does making macro work much easier. I appreciate the geared panhead too. That was worth the extra money, especially for extreme close-ups.

[90°] This is my second cube. I ended up getting another one with geared panning to ease astrophotography setups. This is my go to head. Only time I use anything different (gimbal) is 600 mm lens for the wildlife work.
With immaculate quality and generous load rating it is a dream.

[Yes] Could not live without it. Even when you do not really need it, I love it. Recently did some long shutter work at a Country Fair and positioned tripod the best I could within a few seconds, then did final adjustment with the C1. Amazing!

[Yes] Sturdy and does its job well. Well engineered and move smoothly. The only complain is there is no mechanism to prevent the quick release plate slip right away when you loosen the clip.
