Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this support a 2021 macbook pro with an M1 Max chip to power external hard drives?

A: The Satechi 4-Port USB-C Hub (BH #SASTUC4PHM) can power external hard drives.

Q: 2. I have the Kondor Blue Dtap to 2 pin Lemo power cable for the RED Komodo, however, I don't trust DTAP given how it is unregulated. If I were to plug in that cable to the single regulated DTAP female port on this hub, 1) would it provide enough power for the Komodo? 2) would it provide additional protection since it is now regulated or am I missing something else? Thanks!

A: Yes, since the RED Komodo can handle 7 to 17V, a block battery that outputs within that range, accompanied by a D-tap to 2-pin LEMO power cable and this Kondor Blue Male D-Tap to 4-Port Female D-Tap Splitter Hub will power the RED Komodo. The Kondor Blue Male D-Tap to 4-Port Female D-Tap Splitter Hub (16") provides additional protection since it is regulated. You can also attach a voltmeter to keep an eye on your battery's voltage level or add a SafeTap connector. Micro Voltmeter https://rencherindustries.com/collections/all-products/products/micro-voltmeter Lentequip SafeTap Connector Kondor Blue Male D-Tap to 4-Port Female D-Tap Splitter Hub (16")

Q: 3. Will I be able to charge the laptop through one of the ports on this hub (12" MacBook)?

A: The Satechi 4-Port USB-C Hub BH #SASTUC4PHM is not designed for power delivery.

Q: 4. What is the maximum output current/power on the regulated 12v. output? I am building a rig that will draw about 5 amps/60 watts.

A: The DTAP input connection on the Kondor Blue Male D-Tap to 4-Port Female D-Tap Splitter Hub will distribute and divide a total of 4.1A / 50W to the four DTAP ports.

Q: 5. Could I use this plugged into a 98W D tap port (Hypercore Neo) and simultaneously power my Sony FX6 and SmallHD503 UB? monitor?

A: You can absolutely use the ProAm USA D-Tap Male to 2 x D-Tap Female Splitter Cable for Pro Batteries but a 98Wh battery will run out of power very fast. I would suggest a 150Wh or even 270Wh, to get any level of significant operation time from both devices, as both have high power draw.

Q: 6. Can the Blackmagic Video Assist be powered using the 12V output on this and a regular D-tap to DC cable?

A: Yes it can however it is usually safer to use a dummy battery solution such as the Kondor Blue D-Tap Power Cable to Sony L-Series Dummy Battery B&H # KODTAPSL MFR # KB-DTAP-SL (for the newer Video assists) or the Kondor Blue D-Tap to Canon LP-E6 Dummy Battery Cable (16-36") B&H # KODTAPCLPE6 MFR # KB-DTAP-CLPE6 (for the original) It is much harder to find a DC cable with the correct sizing to fit the DC input on the monitor thus using one of the dummy battery solutions above takes all the guess work out of the equation. They are guaranteed to work as long as you get the model that fits the battery slot on the back of your video assist.

Q: 7. What are the dimensions of the 4 port female part?

A: The outer dimensions on the 4-D-tap plugging station for ANDYCINE Male D-Tap to 4-Port Female D-Tap Splitter Cable is 20mm x 53mm.

Q: 8. I would like to put this splitter into a 15mm rod of my camera rig, what could be a piece of rig component for doing that?

A: The Wooden Camera Universal 15mm Rod Clamp (1/4"-20), BH #WOA00131, could be mounted to the Kondor Blue Male D-Tap to 4-Port Female D-Tap Splitter Hub with Voltmeter (16") and mounted on a 15mm rod.

Q: 9. Is this meant to be used to connect few dtap devices to single dtap power source?

A: Yes, this device will allow you to connect up to three D-Tap devices to one D-Tap output on a battery or other devices. This device can handle up to 10 amps across all three plugged in accessories (or per port when using just one). The three accessories must not draw more Amps than the D-Tap source can supply.

Q: 10. How long is the cable?

A: The length of the cable attached to the Satechi 4-Port USB-C Hub BH #SASTUC4PHM is not specified but looks to be about 6".

[19.7" / 50 cm] It's great to have the option to throw this on a 15mm rod. Sometimes I run out of real estate on the camera body, or when I do have room, the camera gets too warm and the Velcro gets sloppy. It's been workin great!

[19.7" / 50 cm] Solves multiple needs: Power Distribution / Mounting in one go.

Build Quality:

The coiled-cable is rugged and connects with a strain relief to the distribution box, which will ensure long-term life. The distribution box is made of molded plastic and is well built. The mounting unit is made of milled aluminum with a ratchet-knob that is spring loaded and can be pulled up to change its position when fully tightened. Solid construction overall.

Suggestions for Options / Improvements:

(a) It would have been great to have an option with a straight cable instead of a coiled cable.

(b) Cable organizing can be much better if there were multiple ways of mounting the breakout unit's cable exit. Right now it is at the top end when mounted under-slung, or bottom end when mounted it top-slung. It would make it better if the cable exit could be made bottom-end when mounted under-slung. The breakout unit is screwed onto the metal mounting bracket using three star-screws in a triangle formation. Even if we unscrewed them we cannot change the mounting position of the cable exit if we flip the unit vertically as the screw positions are not symmetrical.

(c) If another option were available where the mounting bracket was horizontal mounted, as opposed to vertically, as it is now, that would make cable management much more streamlined when mounted onto a 15-mm rail system.

Summary:

Overall, great build quality and construction. Great value for the price. Gets the job done. Having the options I described above would make it even more useful and effective.

[Hub: Aluminum] I wonder why other brand don't do this. Just put an extra screw on it, so people can just mount it in their rig instead of having it dangling. Genius! :) Absolute Genius! This is probably the only thing in the market that can mount directly on a rig. (except the ones that come with the rod clamp, which is also kinda useful)

[3.4 oz / 96.7 g] I placed my order for this item fairly quickly without looking at the description or reviews. Not always a smart decision but it worked out great. I didn't originally realize it came with the 15mm rod adapter. The rod adapter is an absolute must, and the build quality is great. In the past I've had issues with d-tap splitters not holding a firm connection. This product however maintains a firm hold. would highly recommend to friends.
