When you aren't using your Rode VideoMic Shotgun Microphone, you can keep it secure in this black Porta Brace Protective Carrying Pouch.

The pouch features a zippered top opening for quick access and a padded interior to protect against scratches and minor bumps when you are transporting your microphone or similarly sized device.

The exterior is made of soft 200-denier nylon cloth with a touch-fastener-friendly surface. The pouch can be used on its own or as an insert for many of the larger Porta Brace camera cases.

[Yes] The in-camera mic on my ag-hmc40 is ok, but the Rode stereo unit is much, much better. A shotgun mic would be better to pull speech out of the background noise, but they are not stereo, and my budget is for one good mic. The pin plug is fine for my uses. If I ever switch over to using XLR, I can always use an adapter to update it. The sound quality is high, and it floats on rubber o-ring bands. It comes with the furball, dead-cat wind cover which works excellently. At $., its the best on camera mic for general use. If I want better long range speech quality, I think I will invest in a wireless lavalier setup to compliment this mic with an XLR setup. I need to purchase the case made for this model so it won't bang around in my video backpack when not in use. Stay away from buying cheap microphones. At this pricepoint, I consider this the minimum quality I would ever think of buying. After all you wouldn't put a cheap attachment lens over your your expensive prime zoom lens, and spoil the quality. The Rode SVM is an excellent general mic for all purpose use. A shotgun mic is for news type use, a lavalier is for someone you know, and a stereo mic is just a great upgrade from the cheesy in camera mics. 5

[0.2 lb / 0.1 kg] I have used the stereo Rode VideoMic to tape an indoor musical production. The sound is clear and doesn't appear to have much distortion. I am pleased with how it works. The camera prompts you to make sure you turn on the external microphone. One does need an adaptor to make it work. 5

[Zipper] Works well with DSLR and isolation is a plus. DSLR is a different animal from a shoulder mount camera and isolating the mic helps immensely. You will need to purchase a screw in hot shoe mount. 5

[Zipper] I bought this mic to use on my Canon EOS 7D for video recording. Being used to broadcast gear, I realized how beneficial a good stereo mic is when compared to a mono shotgun when it comes to disipating wind noise. This mic will not disappoint and has excellent noise rejection and a great capture field. It's a well built mic that is easily worth the upcharge over a shotgun mic, even if you don't need to record stereo. The included dead kitten mic sock is different. I'm used to foam socks but the kitten is typically used on high end zepellins so it should be a plus. I just haven't had the chance to test it yet. Probably because I'm a dog guy, not a cat fan - LOL. 5

[Yes] I use this on my Nikon D7000 and it works great directly into the camera. I also use it by plugging it directly into my Zoom H1 line in input. Either way is great. Outside, throw on the dead kitten that comes with it and your ready to go. I've only had it a couple of weeks now and so far can't find anything wrong with it. 5

[Zipper] Very high quality sound capture and great stereo L+R phasing. The build quality is superior as well. Love the small toggle switches for power (and the LED) and high pass filter, etc. Positioned to be easily seen and accessed. Even the 9v battery compartment is well designed. No wires and a pad to attach to the battery ... there are fixed contacts in the compartment. Well thought out. Using with my new Canon 7D body for video recordings. Superior to the mono built-in mic on the 7D. A bit on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for here and I see this lasting a long time. 5
