Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. There's a ring to select aperture on this lens. However, is it still possible to dial the aperture from the aperture wheel on the SL rather than through the aperture ring on the lens?

A: Yes there is a way. Turn the aperture ring to "A" (like it shows in the photo) and you'll have control through the camera instead of the lens.

Q: 2. Does this lens have internal focusing? Or does the barrel extend and retract when focusing?

A: The Sigma 35mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary Lens for Sony E has internal focusing.

Q: 3. Is this compatible with a lieca cl

A: Yes this will work on the Leica CL.

Q: 4. Can autofocus on this lens be turned on and off from the camera body? Thanks.

A: If the camera you own has the ability to turn the autofocus feature on and off via the camera's menu, then yes, it can be done from either the camera body via the menu or via the AF/MF switch on the lens. When you disable the autofocus either via the camera's menu or directly on the lens, you would enable the fine focus ring function for manual focus usage needs.

Q: 5. What’s the difference between this lens and the Art lens? Does anyone know? Thanks

A: The Art-series of Sigma lenses represents their highest quality offerings, typically also offering larger apertures, with the trade-off being significant increases in size, weight, and price. Contemporary lenses are mostly smaller, high-quality offers with reasonable apertures meant for the budget-conscious consumer that isn't willing to sacrifice too much quality in order to get a great lens. This usually applies across the board, and is especially true for the new DG DN Contemporary lenses which are significantly smaller than their DG Art counterparts.

Q: 6. I see from the photos that the aperture rings move in 1/3 stops. Will it give the same effect as de-clicked aperture of a cine lens? Or will the jumps be noticeable? Thanks

A: From our tests in the store using the Sigma 35mm f/2 DG DN C, the effect is not quite similar to a de-clicked aperture ring. Firstly, there is an audible click when rotating the physical aperture ring. Secondly, there is a split-second latency even in Aperture Priority where the exposure adjusts and the shutter speed/ISO raises in order to compensate for the change. We had a much more seamless effect when the lens is set to "A" and we adjusted the aperture via the dials as we did not hear the click nor did we see any visible exposure change.

Q: 7. Will this fit in to my sigma 16mm 1.4 for sony apsc, thanks

A: Yes, this Sigma Petal-Type Lens Hood will fit on the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN Lens for Sony E.

Q: 8. Weather sealed, or just a gasket on the mount?

A: Sigma says the Sigma 24mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary Lens for Sony E weather sealing is only on the mount. it is not as weather sealed as other models.

Q: 9. Does fit for Fuji X body mount to use ?

A: Sigma produces the Sigma 65mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary Lens with a Leica L and Sony E mount. Unfortunately, they do not make this lens with a Fuji X mount.

Q: 10. Can this lens be used on a Sony Nex6 without using a adapter?

A: Being that the Sigma 65mm f/2 DG DN uses the Sony E mount, it can work with the Sony NEX-6.

[0.115 lb] Sigma hit a home run with its Contemporary line of lenses in L mount.

[0.115 lb] Superb build quality. Excellent sharpness (just a tad less than the 65mm Sigma). Good colour. I pair it with the Sigma 65mm f/2 DG DN for in-town photo walks.

[0.115 lb] This is a beast for low light scenarios. Paired with the Panasonic S5 it gives good video. It reminds me of the MFT Leica 15mm f1.7. Great construction...well, I'm sure you'll find a thorough review on some platform.

[0.115 lb] Image quality sharp and low CA, focus fast. I don't own the FE 35/1.8 but compare from Flickr, this 35 dg dn do perform better. Also the compact size and solid metal body, I really enjoy to shot with 35/2 dg dn on SONY A7C.

[0.115 lb] I’m crazy about all the lenses in Sigma’s DG DN Contemporary line. The 35mm f/2 is simply perfect for my needs. I shoot events and like to use a prime to cover the close-in images of people in action. The Sigma’s compact size, light weight and strong performance at wide apertures gives me the images I’m looking for.

[0.115 lb] Nice compact size. Fast focus. All metal construction (even the hood).

[0.115 lb] The first thing that jumped out at me was the build-quality—solid metal with lots of fine details. I also love the overall esthetics of this lens—a nice balance between the classic retro lenses and the modern ones.

The second thing is the size—it is just perfect for day-to-day use or street photography, small and light enough for easy-carrying and not being intrusive.

The third thing that I noticed is the quality of the images that this lens produces. Very sharp with nice color reproduction.

I'm not sure if you can say that this lens is for everyone, but it's certainly a nearly perfect lens for street photography.

I'm not a professional photographer, although I have been shooting for fun for over ten years now. So take my review with a grain of salt. :)

[0.115 lb] This is an extraordinarily good lens at this price point. Very little flare, excellent edge sharpness wide open and good color correction. The motor is virtually silent. It’s fine as a prime lens, light and yet solidly constructed.

[0.115 lb] I’ve been through a lot of premium glass in recent years. None have inspired me to go out and take pictures like this 35. Searching for perfection can get in the way of good enough, and this lens is more than good enough. I give it high praise for balance in the hand, sharpness, contrast, and transition from focus to out of focus areas. Diffraction is noticed at f/16, but the picture is usable. All said, my best lens purchase in a really long time.

[0.115 lb] This lens gives pictures a look shared with the 85mm f/1.4 DG DN Art - sharp without appearing overly clinical. It sneaks up on you - Oh, that's really sharp.

Some of Leica's own lenses really slap you in the face with their sharpness - you'd look and say, My G#d that's sharp!

The Sigma 35/2 DG DN C is also less than half the weight of the 35/2 APO-Summicron-M ASPH. I have a bad back and shoot on location a lot, so weight is important.

And the Sigma 35/2 DG DN C while not an apochromatic lens is sharp enough. Subjectively and by MTF it's as sharp or sharper at center and edges than anything else that isn't a Leica L-mount lens.

Highly recommended.

(Use and images with Leica SL2.)
