[7.6 x 6.6 x 2"] The Audioengine D1 DAC works as it is advertised. Good quality sound from a reasonably priced DAC.

[0.795 lb] This DAC does make a difference. The sound is more clear, clean, and present.

I have this hooked up to the AudioEngine 2+ speakers, which have their volume control on the back. With this DAC, it's great to have the volume knob on the front. However, I lose onscreen feedback, and cannot use the keyboard. The volume knob has no marks on it, either. One reviewer said that he used a Sharpie to place a mark on it. For now, I don't want to mark it at all, so I'm learning how essentially fly blind. This is not ideal.

When I first began using it, I could hardly hear it at all. One reviewer made a good suggestion that I have followed. Turn the volume knob of the speaker almost all the way up, and turn the DAC volume all the way down. This way, just a little movement of the DAC knob gives you better control, and you don't have to move it very far.

Of course, it's also nice to have the headphone jack on the front. So nice not having to hunt in the back of my iMac. It's also nice that the speakers automatically turn off when you plug in your headphones.

The body of the DAC is very lightweight. You will probably find that it swims around if you have it on a smooth surface.

Quirks aside, it definitely works, and it has greatly enhanced my listening experience.

[7.6 x 6.6 x 2"] Before getting this unit, I ran my four amplified audio speakers from the headphone jack on my iMac. Using audio for editing in Final Cut Pro, but also watching movies at night, I had a nest of splitters separating the stereo lines to the various speakers and also to my headphones. A friend suggested the quality would be better with a digital audio converter, so I purchased this one. I am thrilled with it. I ran all the wires under my editing table and the master volume knob is right there at the front of my desk where I can adjust it when the volume gets too loud (Bruce Willis movies, etc.) And the headphone jack is right where I need it, cutting out the amplified speakers just by plugging it in. Its the most useful addition to my computer in a long time.

[7.6 x 6.6 x 2"] Purchased the D1 to improve the sound of Google Chromecast audio "puck" - connected them together with a Google short fiber cable. Well worth the price of the D1 because Spotify now sounds musical.

[0.795 lb] First, let me start by stating that I am not a habitual audiophile, nor have I comparison reviewed countless products. Just a guy with an appreciation for music, a moderate budget, and enough desk-time to make a decent setup worth the investment. For reference, I am currently using this product in combination with the Master & Dynamic MH40 Over-Ear Monitors and TIDAL's HIFI digital streaming service. In sequence, this product was the third of three items that comprise my setup (monitors, streaming product, & dac - in that order). After purchasing good headphones and upgrading to better source material, the final piece was to eliminate the onboard sound processing on my MacBook Pro. When combined with other high fidelity products, this DAC made a noticeable different in the overall quality and listening experience. The sound is more warm/full and the notes more sharp/precise. I went with this particular DAC over some of the other similar (portable) units because of it's no-frills, all value feature set. USB powered, physical volume, and the ability to power headphones or desktop monitors. No on board EQ, gain, display, or anything else that may distract you from the core purpose of this product (to decode digital audio). I also went with this unit because other folks who are qualified to compare this product with others of similar likeness gave it high ratings for it's audio dac performance. Super happy with it. Would buy it again / recommend to friends.

[7.6 x 6.6 x 2"] What can I say? An great balance between sound quality and value. In fact, I wouldn't say that there is any compromise in sound quality at all. In comparison to my other DAC/headphone amp costing about 5x of this box, there are numerous recordings where I enjoy the sound signature of this little amp over my other amp. When paired up with my headphones it presents a rather warm presence with emphasized lower mids but without any compromise in bass and well extended smooth highs. It has no trouble driving low impedance (32ohms) headphones with plenty overhead. Given the value it's a no-brainer for anyone serious about best music experience without shelling out for an expensive setup.

[0.795 lb] I have always been disappointed in the Bose desktop speakers I use with my PC. They never sounded like I thought they should. I was about to spend money to upgrade my speakers when I read a review about this DAC and decided to try it. NOW my Bose speakers sound great for way less money than I was going to spend on replacement speakers. Makes my headphones sound better, too.
