Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is the hand grip able to be manipulated or is it fixed?

A: While you can adjust the tightness of the hand strap, the hand grip cannot be manipulated beyond that. It is in a fixed position.

Q: 2. Hi, what is the best high quality memory card to use on the XF705?

A: The camera would need nothing faster than this Sandisk model: https://bhpho.to/39uM6Bh - any faster card would be overkill.

Q: 3. Canon xf705 camera tested with SanDisk 128GB Extreme PRO UHS-II SDXC Memory Card ?

A: While we are not aware of any specific testing the SanDisk 128GB Extreme PRO UHS-II SDXC Memory Card, B&H # SAEPSDU128GA, is compatible with this camcorder. https://bhpho.to/2vKkJvw

Q: 4. will this simply do just a horizontal flip to a video feed? the use case is Sony A7S3 HDMI out SE1217 Input (flips the image horizontally) - outputs 1080p 30p to a blackmagic atem mini?

A: Yes. The AVMATRIX SE1217 is capable of doing a horizontal image flip.

Q: 5. There are two little screw holes right under the hole for the shoulder strap at the back of the camera. What is it for?

A: Canon has not announced what those holes are specifically. We image they may be for brackets like this: BEC 5/8" Microphone Bracket Plate B&H # BEMICB.

Q: 6. How would this compare with Nikon Z6, 35mm prime and Atomos for TV quality recording?

A: Both will give you outstanding image quality, however it is very difficult to do a comparison between this camcorder with a 1" sensor and 15x Optical Zoom lens and a Full Frame Mirrorless Photo Camera with a fixed 35mm lens. They are designed to serve two very different purposes.

Q: 7. What's the Canon XF705 ISO BASE ?

A: The XF705 is a ENG Style Camcorder, traditionally these kinds of camcorders do not have ISO as a setting as they are not trying to duplicate Film Speeds. To raise your exposure beyond what your IRIS can offer the setting of Gain will be used, with the optimal setting being 0 db.

Q: 8. Can Adobe Premiere import files shot by this camera in H.264 (1920x1080), without needing any conversion?

Q: 9. WHITE BALANCE PRESETS?

A: Yes, this camcorder does have White Balance Presets. You can set it to Daylight or Tungsten Lighting. You will also be able to dial in a Kelvin Temperature between 2000 K to 15,000 K. Finally you can use a White Card to do a custom white balance.

[1x RJ45 Female] This Camcorder exceeds all my expectations. I came from the Sony PXW-Z190 and I do miss the 25X optical zoom but now I have more clarity and 4K is awesome. The recording in HEVC files makes the files half the size of the regular .264 or MPEG files with double the quality. The 30X zoom is very usable. The slow motion is buttery smooth. The U30 battery that comes with it won’t give you all day recording, so get the U60 for that. The Canon L glass shows clear and precise. I haven’t tested low light yet, but the groups and forums on Facebook have tested and uploaded clips that say its a winner in that regard as well. The biggest compliment is the use of SD cards...Initially I was leary about getting this camcorder because FCPX couldn’t read the HEVC files...6 months later, FCPX can read the files and edit them. Just be sure you have a fairly newer MacBook Pro because I have two, one I bought in 2014 and the newer one I bought in 2017...I recorded two different church services and loaded each on the different laptops. The newer 2017 model processed the files with no problem, but the older 2014 would load in FCPX but that’s it. So I took a clip 30 seconds long, updated my software, updated FCPX and tried, still no processing or saving the clip...So now I will be getting a new MacBook Pro to make sure I have a New Laptop that I know should work and also a backup in my 2017...Oh and Canon just released a new firmware for the XF705 with some nice improvements and fixed some problems people were experiencing...I didn’t have any problems but then again I’ve only had it two weeks...It’s not cheap but if you got about 8000 laying around go for it...

[PoE 802.3af] These units are ideal for instant connect up and they work. You can customise the bit rate and it keeps the video smooth. One TX can feed many RX.

[10 to 90%] Bought this and its matching rx. They seem pretty good. You can select different definitions, FHD, HD, SD, and then can assign them to the 3 types, and allocate bit rates for each. Eg you can select HD, send that to SD and a bit rate of 800 and FHD to HD and a bit rate of 2000 etc. It then selects the resolution type, eg 720P. The only limitation I find a bit strange is that the full range of resolutions, are not available all the time. They vary what is available depending on the Hz, 50Hz or 60Hz of the incoming HDMI. I am using 60Hz, and this does not have 1080i, but if I was using 50Hz, then 1080i would be included.
60Hz has 480i, 480P, 720P, 1080P.
50Hz has 576i, 576P, 720P, 1080P, 1080i.
The other strange thing I notice is that if I select a bit rate of 800Kbps, and then monitor the link at the IP level, it seems to be using about 3.5Mbps.
However, for quality and ease of use, these seem to be great devices.

[9.3 x 7 x 1.6"] I purchased a XF705 from B&H approximately 7 months ago. I have been waiting patiently for a FCPX upgrade to allow the H.265 files to be ingested to FCPX. Good News...with the recent upgrade to FCPX, ver 10.4.7, I can import the XF705 H.265 files directly into FCPX. I am running macOS Mojave, ver 10.14.6. My iMac computer was manufactured in late 2015. I have to use proxy files for editing, otherwise my computer hangs up.

[1x RJ45 Female] You can rename the file from .mxf to .mpg and then Adobe Media Encoder will recognize it. You can convert the file to 10 bit ProResHQ 422.

[9.3 x 7 x 1.6"] The Osprey is quite versatile and reliable. We have purchased dozens of the G1 & G2 encoders for use throughout numerous facilities in our extensive network. Our primary use is for multicasting, but we also do a number of unicasts and YouTube streams.
Osprey tech support is so helpful and knowledgeable, which is another huge selling point.
We have used numerous other manufacturers products (HaiVision, Evertz, Ensemble Design, and Lynx). All of them work fine but Osprey offered the best quality and reliability for the price.

[1x HDMI (2.0)] I do a lot of live performance and have been using the Canon XF 300s with good success, so for me the upgrade to the 705 was a no brainer.
Ive only had the 705 for about a week now but I did a 90 minute test filming in camera to H.265/HEVC 4:2:2 10 bit and outputting via 12G SDI to a Shogun Inferno set to Pro Res HD.
After the 90 minutes of filming, the Shogun Pro Res amounted to a 1.2 TB file in my Macs Premiere Pro. However, I was unable to import the H.265 from the camera file into Premiere Pro CC 2018. I assume that Adobe will soon provide a firmware update to allow H.265 files to work in Premiere Pro without having to convert them.
In any event, Im very impressed with the camera and am looking forward to taking advantage of all the improvements they have made over the XF 300.

[10 to 90%] There's so many protocols to work with in this little box, and decodes practically anything thrown at it.

It's not an entry level unit but it's very very good and VITEC keeps improving it
