The Shure SLXD14/DL4B offers actors, performers, instructors, clergy, and presenters a wireless lavalier microphone system that's easy to set up and dependable, which delivers crystal-clear digital sound quality. Built around a rugged, single-channel, half-rack receiver with removable antennas, the system is ideally suited for portable rigs or long-term installations in small- to medium-sized venues, event spaces, conference rooms, houses of worship, and education facilities.

The SLX-D operates in the UHF band to transmit high-quality, 24-bit digital audio with over 120 dB of dynamic range for crisp, detailed sound. It utilizes Digital Predictive Switching Diversity to protect the transmission from interference and deliver a solid, reliable RF signal without dropouts.

This configuration comes with a black DL4 DuraPlex waterproof miniature omnidirectional lavalier microphone built to withstand the rigors of professional use. The discreet bodypack transmitter has a selectable 1/10mW RF power output and a transmission range up to 330'. It provides up to 8 hours of operation on two AA batteries or an SB903 rechargeable battery (available separately).

The all-metal, rackmount SLXD4 receiver features an intuitive LCD interface with meters for RF, battery status, and audio output. It also offers 60 dB of gain control, and both mic/line XLR and 1/4" instrument outputs. Additional features include automatic frequency scanning and IR sync to easily link the transmitter and receiver to the same frequency.

With up to 32 mic channels available at the same time, the SLX-D is ready to expand as your needs grow. What’s more, setting up multiple systems is made fast and easy via the Ethernet port, which links the receivers together for quick, coordinated frequency scans from a single location.

  • The SLX-D delivers 24-bit digital audio with a fast transient response and over 120 dB of dynamic range—resulting in clear, accurate sound.
  • The system operates in the H55: 514 to 558 MHz UHF band with a 44 MHz tuning range and 1760 selectable frequencies, far away from potential Wi-Fi interference in the 2.4 GHz band.
  • Digital Predictive Switching Diversity uses a microprocessor to switch between the two antennas for the cleanest signal—before dropouts occur.
  • With a low latency of 3.2 ms, the system is ideal for applications that require live sound reinforcement.
  • The SLX-D's spectrum-efficient digital transmission technology allows for up to 32 mics to be used at once.
  • Up to 10 compatible systems per 6 MHz TV band and 12 systems per 8 MHz band are supported.
  • Ethernet networking saves you time with coordinated group scanning between multiple receivers from a single location; TCPI command streams from third-party companies such as AMX and Crestron are also supported.

  • Housed in a tough, half-rack metal chassis with detachable antennas, the SLXD4 receiver is a great fit for A/V installations or as part of a portable rackmount rig—ready to travel to a meeting, event, or performance.
  • The SLX-D is engineered to provide outstanding sound for small- to medium-sized spaces and facilities—without costly, complicated features required primarily for large venues.
  • Intuitive front-panel controls and a high-contrast LCD screen with audio and RF meters makes set up a snap.
  • The auto-scan function automatically seeks out the cleanest available frequency for you. The receiver and transmitter then easily link to the same frequency via infrared.
  • The receiver offers up to 60 dB of adjustable gain and the display shows you where the ideal level should be.

  • Adding the SB903 lithium-ion rechargeable battery, along with an SBC10-903 single charger or an SBC203 dual-docking charger, offers a cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to throwing away AA batteries (battery and chargers available separately).
  • Using the SB903 battery and SBC203 charger simplifies the task of keeping multiple transmitters charged and ready—you can even recharge the battery while still in the transmitter.
  • When powered by an SB903, the transmitter displays the remaining battery life in hours and minutes.

  • Adding UA874 active antennas or PA805SWB passive antennas increases the range of your system and offers increased protection against interference.
  • The UA844+SWB antenna distribution system (available separately) lets you stretch the power of your antenna pairs, giving you more on-air channels in less setup time.

Shure offers numerous lavalier, headset, and handheld microphone options to adapt your SLX-D system as your needs evolve.

  • The WL185 (cardioid) and WL184 (supercardioid) lavalier mics offer narrower, feedback-resistant pickup patterns for louder events.
  • The discrete MX153 sub-miniature earset mic provides exceptional clarity in spoken word applications.
  • The SM35 is a comfortable, durable headset microphone for active performance.
  • The SLXD2 handheld transmitter is available with several mic capsules choices for presenters who prefer the flexibility of a handheld microphone.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Do these work with the paddle antennas to get more range or help with interference?

A: No, the Shure BLX88 receiver included with the Shure BLX188/CVL Dual-Channel Wireless Cardioid Lavalier Microphone System has built-in internal antennas and is not able to connect to external antennas. For this option, you will want to consider using the Shure BLX4R, SLX-D, QLX-D, and ULX-D series receivers.

Q: 2. Will the Shure UA844+SWB UHF Wideband Antenna Distribution System work with this?

A: The Shure UA844+SWB UHF Wideband Antenna Distribution System (470 to 960 MHz) will only work when using three (3) to five (5) receivers from the Shure SLXD14D Dual-Channel Digital Wireless Bodypack System simultaneously with a pair of external antennas like the Shure UA874 Active Directional Antenna (B&H # SHUA874US).

Q: 3. Am I able to record audio to be used for video with this system, or is this strictly for presenters? I'm looking for a mic system that would work for both.

A: This will work for both presenter and camera and will output two diferent levels. The XLR outputs mic level and the 1/4" outputs instrument level. If using with a camera you may need to adapt the XLR to 3.5mm with this https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/387850-REG/Rode_VXLR_VXLR_Mono_Mini_Jack.html?sts=pi&pim=Y

Q: 4. Can I buy several sets on two different bands for 12 mics all working at the same time a?

A: Yes you can use 3 systems of the Shure BLX188/CVL in one band and 3 in another band to be able to use 12 mics at the same time without their signals interfering.

Q: 5. Can use this for vocal singing?

A: Yes, the Saramonic HU9 96-Channel Digital UHF Wireless Handheld Mic for UwMic9 System can be used for a musical vocal performance.

Q: 6. Will this be able to pair with a ULX transmitter in the g50 band?

A: No, the Shure SLXD5 is only able to connect to SLXD receivers on the G58 band.

Q: 7. Can you use 3 of these units together? We need a total of 6 mics for a theater production.

A: Yes, technically you can use 3 of these systems together. The normal max channel count for BLX systems without frequency distribution is 6. Having little to no interference really depends on where you will be using this system. Please use Shure's Frequency Finder website to make sure you are purchasing the correct frequency band based off your area code. https://www.shure.com/en-US/support/tools/frequency-finder

Q: 8. What is the locking system for the lav mics? (Godox Proprietary, Sennheiser, Sony...)

A: The Godox WMicS1 Pro Kit 2 Two-Person Camera-Mount Wireless Omni Lavalier Microphone System uses the same 3.5mm TRS locking connector and wiring configuration as Sennheiser does for its lavalier microphones..

Q: 9. it seems geared to I struments, the ta4m ports will fit a WL185, but will they work well with them?

A: Although the Shure SLXD14D Dual-Channel Digital Wireless Guitar System (G58: 470 to 514 MHz) BH #SHSLXD14DG5 is packaged for for two guitar or bass players, itmay be used wih Shure WL185 microphones as well.

[1 RU (1/2 Rack)] Heritage Trail Association a historical site needs to record presenters both in the historic house and in the field so range and quality is important. The sound pickup, range and quality of this product was exactly what was needed. This is a major improvement for us over a high quality camera mounted microphone. In addition the ability to move allows the speakers and actors to be more comfortable. I would recommend this category of product and definitely this product specifically.

[32] The SLX-D product line brings several high-end features into an affordable price range. Only problem is, parts are in short supply and these are very difficult to find. I've been buying the Guitar versions, as the Handheld + Lav Combos are scarcer than hen's teeth. Keeping my eye out for G58 Handhelds to add to these. B&H seems to get more in stock than other resellers and I appreciate that.

[20 Hz to 20 kHz] I used this system for three days doing a series of back-to-back interviews without any problems. The stereo output signal was connected to a Tascam DR-60D mixer, then passed through to a Lumix S5. The results were excellent. The transmitters and the receiver connected immediately. Clear, steady signals without any static or dropouts. Signal strength and volume control was excellent. Surprising good range too. Solid metal construction, which is good because I dropped the receiver onto a concrete floor with no harm done. Long battery life on the transmitters, several hours of continuous use on the receiver. Very satisfied.

[Black] I am a professional wedding DJ, do over 100 a year, for a living. Just got two of these mics, after calling Shure to find out which frequency is best for the Denver area (H22). The mics are awesome! I had an older SLX analog, and the difference is night and day. No drop outs, super solid signal, (and I have them buried in a podium, one with 1/4waves, and the distance mic has 1/2waves mounted on the outside of the podium. And the vocal reproduction is rich, and comes in with plenty of oomph. I paid up and got the Beta 58A mics, with rechargeable batteries.....it was an investment, but you truly get what you pay for and these mics do not disappoint.

[MEMS] I was using 2 RODE Filmmaker wireless mics previously. I love RODE and loved these mics but the problem I kept having was the lavaliers kept going bad. RODE is awesome at fixing but it takes time to return your units and get them back. So I bouth these as a backup for the next time I had to send my RODE mics in to repair. WOW, I could not believe how good they sound, the quality of construction, and ease of use. I shoot with a Panasonic GH5 and there was no problems at all. I now use these as my primary mics and my RODE Filmaker kit as a backup.
