Taking design cues from their venerable CEM line of EQ mounts, the iOptron GEM45G Equatorial GoTo Mount with iGuider & Tripodstrips out a lot of the bulk and retains the exceptional functionality to produce a highly portable and competent platform for astronomical observation and photography. Its center-balanced design places most of the optical tube's weight over the mount's center of gravity, resulting in greater stability, smoother movement, and quieter running versus standard designs. This version of the GEM45 features an innovative digital guide camera in the saddle, the iGuider, that improves tracking accuracy—a must-have device for long-exposure astrophotography. Additionally, a built-in iPolar polar alignment scope further improves GoTo and tracking accuracy by making your alignment more precise in less time.

A precision synchronous belt transmission reduces vibration with a Permanent Periodic Error Correction (PPEC) system that makes the system even more precise the more it is used and trained. The mount boasts a payload capacity of 45 pounds, without the included 11-pound counterweight, to handle most optical tube assemblies (OTAs) and accessories, including heavier photo rigs and filter wheels. iOptron's large 8" Universal Self-Centering Saddle (USCS) accepts both Losmandy and Vixen-style dovetail plates, so it can handle just about any configuration of optical tube and gear you have. This version of the GEM45 also includes the Go2Nova 8407+ computer hand controller, a 32-channel GPS receiver, and a rock-steady LiteRoc stainless steel tripod.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. does this come with the 110V power adapter? Or do you have to purchase a separate power supply adapter?

A: The Sky-Watcher EQ6-R Pro Equatorial GoTo Mount with Tripod Kit BH #SKEQ6RV2 • MFR #S30300 dose not come with an AC adapter

Q: 2. What AC Power adapter is recommended? The B&H #SKACDCPA listed in the Accessories has no meaningful specs, while the Mount does

A: The Sky-Watcher EQ6-R Pro Equatorial GoTo Mount with Tripod Kit comes with a DC power cable (cigarette lighter) so you can power it from a car or a Celestron Power Tank. The Sky-Watcher AC/DC Power Adapter (BH #SKACDCPA ) converts the included DC cord for use in a household AC outlet.

Q: 3. Here is my question: Is Sky-Watcher HEQ5 GoTo Equatorial Mount with Tripod compatible with Losmandy-style dovetail plate (does it have Losmandy-style saddle?)? I plan to use this mount & tripod with Sky-Watcher Evostar 150DX ED APO 150mm f/8 Refractor. Thanks!

A: The Sky-Watcher HEQ5 GoTo Equatorial Mount with Tripod BH #SKS30400K • MFR #S30400 is compatible with the Losmandy-style dovetail plate

Q: 4. Will this work with celestron avx 8-n?

A: The iOptron iGuider Autoguider System has not been tested with the Celestron Advanced VX, so there is no definitive answer for this.

Q: 5. Does this version of the mount come with the one-piece upgraded worm gear?

A: Yes it does, on both axis.

Q: 6. I need a mount that I can use as a grab and go, a good to and as Ana alt as that I can just slew around with out the computer running. Will this mount do that? If not do you have another recommendation?

A: Need to know what OTA you want to attach and its weight

Q: 7. What is a recommended Tripod other than the 1.75 inch carbon fiber that ioptron offers?

A: For the iOptron HAE29 GoTo Alt-Az/Equatorial Mount one needs to make sure one uses a tripod with the correct mount for the head. The iOptron Carbon Fiber Tripod (21-36.8") is the best option, BH #IO8061 (https://bhpho.to/3LtX21A).

Q: 8. will this work with my sky-watcher classic 250p, the 10' dob?

A: Unfortunately due to the size of a Dobsonian telescope they cannot be supported by the Sky-Watcher EQ6-R Pro Equatorial GoTo Mount with Tripod Kit. No EQ mount will be compatible with a Dobsonian style telescope.

Q: 9. Is this the newer model which includes a USB A port for direct PC connection (by passing the hand controller)?

A: This is Sky-Watcher product # s30300 as per Sky-Watcher website: https://www.skywatcherusa.com/products/eq6-r-pro

Q: 10. Is the tripod section on this mount the same tripod as is used in the Celestron VX Advanced mount?

A: No the Celestron CGEM II Tripod that comes with the Celestron CGEM II GoTo German Equatorial Mount is not the same tripod that comes with the Celestron Advanced VX GoTo German Equatorial Mount.

I'm an amateur who took a big step forward with this purchase. I'm thrilled... excited... now I have to learn how to use it to its fullest potential.

Equally important was the assistance I received at B&H

I use the iOptron CEM40 for astrophotography with my 8 Celestron EdgeHD and it is ideal. It is rock solid and far lighter than the alternatives which was very important since I often drive to better viewing locations. I

Not much to say - the mount and the HD tripod that I bought with it are very solid and well-made. When set up, it's vibration-free and very suitable for viewing the sky with larger telescopes, along with astrophotography (which I'm just starting to dabble with) which requires very precise tracking.

My larger telescope weighs between 23 and 26 pounds depending on what apparatus I have attached - this mount easily handles that. Losmandy is quite conservative in their capacity ratings, unlike some companies.

As usual, B&H provided first rate service when I purchased my new EQ6-R Pro mount. This thing is a beast, but that is just what I needed for larger current and future OTA's. The GoTo and Tracking for this mount are extremely accurate, and I am a happy astrophotography customer.

Physical setup is a breeze, electronic setup is... different. My old AVX was never a good performer and I repeatedly had to repair its electronics and mechanical interfaces. I have several scopes, from an 80mm f/6 refractor to a 10 Meade SCT and the AVX would only handle and stay relatively accurate withthe lightest of them - visual only. Finally, when the old AVX serial hand controller bit the dust I ordered a replacement and had a 5mo. wait. So , I went with US made and ordered the Losmandy mount. Physical setup is easy. Electronic setup up is way different than the AVX and other Chinese mounts. There is much more capability in the SW controls with the Gemini 2 controller. You don't need to add any interface dongles to tie this mount to a PC for remote control. It works with ASCOM out of the box. And it can carry 55lbs of payload for astrophotography. I wish that I did not have to watch videos for setup and mount-use help, I would rather read a paragraph quickly than sit through 20 minutes of video to get my setup or use questions answered.

I can't believe how solid the EQ6-R is. Once I figured out how to setup and align it (takes a little practice), I've been taking 180s exposures with zero tails on my Sony A1. I couldn't be happier with the choice.
I don't use the keypad (it is a little clunky) because the app via wifi is really good enough for me. The app could use a little work to make the common workflows easier and repeatable but Meh it works.
Be aware: it is rather heavy but manageable.

Received the mount last week getting all setup in my observatory. Cant wait to start using it. Its the quality you would expect from Losmandy.
