Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. May I mount one side to a dslr and the other side to a standard tripod?

A: I use a manfrotto super lamp on the bottom so you would have to see if theres a thread on the super lamp that would screw on top of your tripod

Q: 2. On the 244 model, does the camera mount plate easily detach in order to put a super clamp on both ends?

A: Yes, the 143BKT plate is easily removable to gain access to the 5/8" on both ends of the arm to add accessories such a Super Clamp.

Q: 3. Could this item be used to attach a small shelf or mouse tray to a tether table? I need to find a solution that will support the weight of the mouse and my arm.

A: No, this isn't designed to hold your arm. Please call or chat with us to discuss how we can help you to meet your needs.

Q: 4. Will it work on Odyssey 7Q+ and Sony FS700? Or should I use another Magic Arm? Thanks.

A: The 244 Variable Friction Magic Arm with Camera Bracket is much heavier than you need for that application, in my opinion. Depends on your rig or setup. But a smaller extension device will likely be more acceptable.

Q: 5. I"m needing to use something like this to shoot down flat/macro work. Will this support a Canon 5D3 with say 100L macro lens or 24-70L II lens?

A: You can mount it but it would not be as stable as a tripod

Q: 6. Do I order a mafer clamp with or without a stud for this?

A: You would order a clamp without a stud, as the stud is already built onto the end of the Manfrotto 244 Variable Friction Magic Arm with Camera Bracket.

Q: 7. Is there a longer arm or extension? I need about 14 t0 18 more inches.

A: Not that Im aware of. Call b and h and the reps can help.

Q: 8. Can I remove camera bracket out like Manfrotto_244 ?

A: Yes but not easily. The screw is threadlocked on and once you remove it, it will no longer be a secure hold. You're better off buying the regular 244N of you don't want a bracket, or getting a 244 which comes with the removable bracket, not a quick release.

Q: 9. Can I bring this as a carry on item on a flight?

A: Yes, the Manfrotto 244N Variable Friction Magic Arm may be carried in a carry-on case for flight travel.

Q: 10. How much weight will this effectively hold?

A: Manfrotto states Load Capacity 6.6 lb

[2.845 lb] Great piece of equipment, allows for many creative uses of securing a camera or lighting equipment. I use the magic arm for installing a remote camera for basketball, but can't wait to use it for baseball season, great product, highly recommended.

[2.845 lb] This works great. I have used it to hold a mono light and with the camera platform to set up a remote camera. Works great and attaches to just about anything you want it to. This was a great purchase.

[2.845 lb] Using it to mount microphones for external sound measurements. Use it along with a shock proof microphone mount. It is very durable and last long!

[2.845 lb] Like a few other reviewers I'm using the 244N as part of a wheelchair camera mount solution. I originally purchased the Manfrotto 143 Magic Arm Kit (the arm with the locking lever with a Super Clamp etc.) but found that, with my reduced physical strength, I had difficulty locking the unit in the right position. The variable friction mechanism on the 244N makes adjustments and locking a breeze. The arms on my wheelchair have play in them so I have to attach the Super Clamp/244N lower on my chair. I'm fairly tall so to get the right height I used a couple of Manfrotto 118 male spigots with a 119 female spigot in between with a 494 Mini Ball Head w/RC2 QR Plate. This combination is perfect for me.

[2.845 lb] This is the kind of thing you buy and then look for ways to use it for everything. I currently use it to mount a 7 field monitor to a manfrotto tripod via a manfrotto super clamp. The arm is very sturdy and works like magic.

[3] I just got the variable friction Magic Arm after having used the old locking lever version for many years. The old design is great, but I find the new design to be even more useful. You no longer have to support the entire weight of the payload (with one hand) when adjusting the Magic Arm position. The friction allows the Magic Arm to support part of that weight for you. The downside of the new design is it takes a little longer to tighten the joint because you have to twist the knob two or three times. To me that's a minor issue.
