Forget about clipping, forget about gain, and forget about hassle; just power on the Zoom F2-BT Portable Field Recorder with Lavalier Micultracompact portable field recorder and press record to capture clear, distortion-free dialog in an instant for your next video shoot, podcast, vlog, or interview. Plus, it empowers users with app-based control and wireless timecode synchronization in addition to everything the standard F2 model has to offer.

Thanks to its 32-bit float technology, the F2-BT handles the softest and loudest sounds you can throw at it while avoiding distortion, maintaining low-noise performance, and freeing you from the responsibility of adjusting gain. Recordings ruined by clipped converters and poorly set preamps are things of the past. You don't even have to worry about unintentionally interrupting the F2-BT because a simple flick of the Hold switch will keep it recording no matter what button you press.

Whereas other F-Series recorders such as the F4, F6, and F8n are centered around an audio bag–ready form factor for location sound recordists, the F2-BT is tailored for belt-mount and pocket-friendly placement directly on the subject. Even the included lavalier microphone, with its low-profile design and locking connector, is optimized for reliable and visually discreet operation that won't distract the wearer or the videographer. With a headphone output and onboard transport controls, the F2-BT also allows actors to listen back to recordings to critique their own performances.

From the refreshingly simple one-touch controls to the long battery life and multiple powering options, the F2-BT is properly equipped to serve you, regardless of your audio background. Whether you need long-duration recording for a podcast, professional audio capture for an interview, a rock-solid system for weddings, or a space-saving setup for vlogs, the F2-BT is ready to capture your crucial audio at any location.

The F2-BT's operational simplicity ensures that it will never get in the way of your workflow, be it simple, complex, or always changing, so you can feel confident using it as your main recorder or as a backup unit for added safety. Take advantage of convenient remote control functions—record start/stop, low-cut filtering, output volume, battery display, and more—from your mobile device through the free Zoom F2 Control app. After the shoot, transfer your files to a computer via USB, then use the supplied Steinberg WaveLab Cast software to edit, enhance, mix, and export your audio for the world to hear.

Attach the included lavalier microphone to your subject with the supplied mic clip, then connect its 3.5mm plug–equipped cable to the input of the F2-BT; the locking connection inhibits unintended disconnects. The microphone's omnidirectional polar pattern delivers consistent audio pickup from all directions, yielding dependable voice capture even as the subject turns their head or the microphone changes position. Also, three windscreens are supplied for easy reduction of light wind noise.

The F2-BT utilizes 32-bit float recording technology to capture intensely loud signals without overloading the A/D converters and bring in extremely quiet sounds without overwhelming noise, all without requiring any gain adjustment from you. Record with confidence knowing that you can just connect the microphone and start recording to attain crisp, clear dialog.

The F2-BT boasts two high-quality recording resolutions to choose from—32-bit / 44.1 kHz or 32-bit / 48 kHz, both in mono uncompressed BWF (Broadcast Wave File) format. No data compression means that no quality is lost in the creation of the audio files. Use the onboard 80 Hz low-cut filter to reduce rumble and bass buildup in your recordings.

Maximize portability by recording directly to a microSD/microSDHC/microSDXC card (available separately) for up to 512GB of storage space.

The F2-BT can accommodate mic-level signals via its locking 3.5mm mini-jack input. Since it supplies 2.5V plug-in power, you're free to use common condenser mics such as lavaliers, headsets, and earsets.

A locking 3.5mm stereo output jack with dedicated volume up/down buttons enables straightforward routing to your camera, DSLR, secondary recorder, or even headphones for easy monitoring.

To keep up with the pace of on-location production, the F2-BT can be powered via two AAA alkaline, Lithium, or NiMH rechargeable batteries (alkaline included), a Zoom AD-17 power adapter (available separately), or a USB Type-C battery pack (available separately). With up to 14 hours of run time on AAA batteries, all-day shoots are no problem for the F2-BT.

The F2-BT features Bluetooth built in, no dongles needed. With the free Zoom F2 Control app, you can wirelessly start/stop recordings, display battery levels, adjust output volume, control low-cut filtering, and more from your mobile device.

You can also pair the F2-BT with an UltraSync BLUE device by Timecode Systems (available separately) to receive and write timecode to recorded files, making the F2-BT a handy recorder for professional audio-for-video applications.

The F2 Editor lets you adjust settings, format SD cards, and more from your Mac or Windows computer. Since the F2-BT has a USB Type-C port, simply connect it to your computer via a USB cable (available separately) and launch the editor. The USB connection also makes it easy to transfer files to your computer.

Intuitive one-touch buttons—record, play, stop, and volume up/down— provide fast, hassle-free operations with no menus to wade through. LEDs are provided for clear indication of audio level, battery status, and power.

Flip the power switch down to the Hold position to engage the Hold function, which prevents interruptions to the recording caused by accidental button presses.

The F2-BT is equipped with a high-precision internal clock (±3ppm) to avoid audio and video syncing issues.

With its minimalist profile, the lightweight F2-BT attaches neatly on belts and waistbands, or can be slipped into a pocket so the recorder can be easily concealed.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can you monitor audio while recording? It seems comparable devices cannot due to US Patent Law.

A: Yes, you can monitor audio while recording using the F2-BT's output jack which functions as a headphone or line level output with volume control.

Q: 2. With the Bluetooth version, are you able to monitor audio from the app? Also could you do that for more than one mic?

A: This does not allow monitoring over bluetooth. It is only as a remote for functionality.

Q: 3. Will it work with the Atomos AtomX Sync module? Atomos owns UltraSync and the Sync module works with my Zoom F8n over bluetooth.

A: Yes, the Atomos AtomX Sync module can be used with the Zoom F2-BT but you will also need to use the Atomos UltraSync BLUE Wireless Timecode Sync for AtomX SYNC and Ninja V (B&H #ATOMXSYBL1US).

Q: 4. Will lav mic wired for Sennheiser systems work with the F2? I'm concerned because the specs say the plug-in power is only 2.5 V but many professional mics, such as the DPA 4060, require 5 V or more.

A: No. It does plug in power only at 2.5V, so will not power the 4060. You are correct.

Q: 5. Can the f2-bt be timecode jammed with devices other than timecode systems blue. What other Bluetooth devices can be used?

A: You will need to use a Bluetooth timecode generator in order to sync timecode with Bluetooth adapter fitted in the Zoom F2-BT Ultracompact Bluetooth-Enabled Portable Field Recorder. The Atomos UltraSync BLUE Wireless Timecode Sync (B&H # ATOMSYBL01US) is the model that is currently recommended by Zoom.

Q: 6. I have the Zoom F6, which generates its own timecode, and has bluetooth. Can I sync the F2 with F6 directly, or are they really making me buy some 3rd party device for that?

A: It is not possible to sync the F2 and F6 directly. You will need to use an UltraSync BLUE device by Timecode Systems (available separately) to sync the F2 and F6 to receive and write timecode to recorded files.

Q: 7. Can you use this with a wireless mic system?

A: Yes, you can use a wireless mic system instead of the lavalier mic. Just be sure to use a cable that has a locking 3.5mm TRS connector for the input on the F2-BT. if your wireless receiver output cable has a standard non-locking 3.5mm TRS, you can use a female to female coupler adapter like the Hosa Technology GMM303 3.5mm Female Stereo Mini to 3.5mm Female Stereo Mini Adapter (B&H # HOASMFSMF) to connect your receiver's output cable with a second cable such as the Sennheiser CL1 3.5mm to 3.5mm Output Cable (B&H # SECL1) which has a standard non-locking 3.5mm TRS male connector on one side and locking 3.5mm TRS male end on the other side to go to the F2-BT's locking input.

Q: 8. How many recorders i can see / config / via app at the same time?

A: The F2 app allows you to monitor one recorder.

Q: 9. Can you connect and use a small camera mic with 3.5mm cable with this, for example, the Diety V-Mic D4 Duo? with this?

A: Yes, you can use a mic like the Deity V-Mic D4 DUO with the Zoom F2.-BT The F2-BT will supply enough plug-in power for the mic. Just be aware that the mic input on the F2-BT uses a 3.5mm locking connector so use a cable like the Sennheiser CL1 (B&H #SECL1) to connect the output of the Deity mic to the input on the F2-BT.

Q: 10. I understand that you can't monitor the audio levels via the app but can you receive error messages like 'card full' via bluetooth?

A: The Zoom F2-BT Ultracompact Bluetooth-Enabled Portable Field Recorder with Lavalier Microphone BH #ZOF2BT does not allow monitoring over bluetooth. It is only as a remote for functionality. The smartphone app can be used for remote control functions such as record start/stop, low-cut filtering, output volume, and battery display, but does not provide a way to listen to the audio. The headphone jack on the F2 provides a 3.5mm output to listen and monitor the audio while recording.

[32-Bit] Even with LQ! zoom lavalier mic, it recorded very good quality audio at wedding ceremony.

[1x USB-C (2.0)] Love this little guy. The wait was long and well worth it. I recommend this for its tiny size and not having to worry about levels. It Simoly won't clip. How it knows how intense to pickup the audio baffles me. It doesn't sound like auto input levels are being used but much better quality. Impressive when paired with a countryman b3 or Sanken COS-11 lav mic.

[1] Got this to mic a one off situation as the failsafe audio, and it worked a dream. Got high quality audio which was good as the videographers audio was crunchy. Swapped the track from the zoom in and all taken care of.

[BWF] I was pretty surprised by the size. It's quite small which I like. The controls feel fine and the Bluetooth works really well. If you have used DJI Bluetooth on their Ronin systems it can be annoying, and I was expecting it to be that way, but it was without lag and connected nearly instantly. The audio sounds very good and didn't require any adjustments while recording a walking interview outside on gravel. Does it sound like a $5k audio setup? no, but it is the best dollars spent for the indie/commercial work I do. Overall, I highly recommend it to anyone who needs a wireless-like system but doesn't want to spend the big bucks and hassle for an actual wireless system.

[48 kHz / 32-Bit] It's amazing to be able to record 32 bit audio at this size and price. I am connecting it to a boom microphone and I'm very pleased with the results. I got the blue tooth version to be able to control the unit from my phone. Not a single issue yet. Only negative is that it feels a little too plasticky. Hope that it lasts long enough!

[115 dB SPL] Super tiny, good audio.

[±3 ppm] There is so much I love about these. The sound quality is great. I use them on pretty much a daily basis. The size of recorder is tiny and perfect for hiding. The belt clip has a solid sturdy feel to them. The mics that come with it are good, though they do feel a bit cheap and plasticy.

I don't love the battery door, it feels a bit cheap and is not easy to remove. I don't feel like the operation is super intuitive but got it figured out and pairing it with the app helps a lot with controlling stuff that isn't operable just from the buttons on the recorder.

[48 kHz / 32-Bit] I am a speaker and need to record and wireless transmit at the same time. This recorder is amazing.

[Yes] I upgraded the lav to the +/- $100 Rode mic. Sounds fantastic across the spectrum, but very sensitive to minute belching. Don’t eat a dinner before going on. 32 Float makes clipping almost impossible. Time code synch Timecode Systems, Ultrasync Blue. Easy Peasey.
