Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this work with Sound Devices XL-WPH3 45W DC Power Supply? And with Remote Audio Anton Bauer PowerTap to 4-Pin Hirose Male DC Power Cable (14 ) to power MixPre-6 off Anton Bauers? Thx

A: The Hirose DC Input has a voltage range from 10-20v. So do not power from mains IEC it will fry the unit.

Q: 2. Do you have to use two batteries at once or can you use one? Also, what's the estimated run time with phantom for the smaller (2900mh) and medium (5000mh) Sony NPF batteries? Thanks.

A: You only need one battery. I use two just because it seems a bit less awkward to handle. Two of the smaller batteries will run the recorder and a couple of mics all day long.

Q: 3. If you use rechargeable batteries in this, can they be charged overnight by connecting the MixPre3 to a USB port?

A: No you can power the recorder via USB while recording or via the rechargeable AA batteries, however they need to be charged with their own charger outside the recorder.

Q: 4. Are we able to use 8 iPower rechargeable lipo batteries with this sled?

A: It is not recommended to use rechargeable lithium batteries with a Mixpre series recorder. Sound Device does recommend using 1.5v non-rechargeable lithium batteries, or higher powered NiMH batteries such as B&H # PAKJ17KHCA4A.

Q: 5. Why is this product, which only holds one NPF battery, far more expensive than the one that holds two? Are there more features?

A: The Sound Devices MX-LM1 L-Mount Battery Sled holds one NP-F battery parallel to the chassis, and the Sound Devices MX-LMOUNT Battery Sled holds two NP-F batteries perpendicular to the chassis. There are differences in construction between the two models, but you will need to contact Sound Devices regarding the difference in the price between the two models.

Q: 6. does this work with the mixpre 6 ii? If so, is there a particular Sony L-style battery you would suggest to run the mixpre-6 ii?

A: Yes, the Sound Devices MX-LM1 L-Mount Battery Sled for MixPre, MixPre-M & MixPre-II Mixer/Recorders is compatible with the MixPre-6 II. Any Sony L-series battery will be compatible.

Q: 7. Hi, I was curious what size/capacity of L-mount batteries this sled can accommodate? The photo here looks like it can use the larger/higher capacity batts, but the image of this sled on the Sound Devices site uses the smaller, lower capacity batts. Any observations? Many thanks!

A: It works fine with any capacity battery. Just keep in mind that the larger the capacity and physical size of the battery, the more awkward the MixPre may get on a tabletop or a bag, because the batteries stick out so far from the sides of the unit.

Q: 8. What is the difference between this one and the cheaper $65 option?

A: Hi Jared. The MX-LMOUNT holds 2 NPF batteries, and the MX-LM1 only holds 1 NPF. Battery orientation is parallel to the chassis for the MX-LM1, but perpendicular for the MX-LMOUNT.

Q: 9. Is there a voltage regulator inside or does ist pass through voltage/current from the 7,2v l-mount battery?

A: Voltage regulation not needed with Sony l type batteries it’s designed for those

Q: 10. Does this hirose DC input sled work with the Sound Devices MixPre 10T as far as room for cable is concerned (i.e. without bending it too much)?

A: Unlike the MixPre 3 and 6, the MixPre 10T sports a Hirose 4-Pin DC input connector, so this accessory is not needed for the 10T.

[0.52 lb] This makes it so that you can use Sony NPF batteries. Be careful with it though, my original one bro !

[0.52 lb] This is a spare four AA cell battery sled for a Sound Devices MixPre-3. Like the MixPre-3 itself, this part is well made and of excellent quality. It is light weight and made of plastic, but was designed that way to keep the MixPre at about one pounds. Anything Sound Devices makes is first rate in design and build quality.

[0.52 lb] I use this with a MixPre-3 and a hirose-to-d-tap cable.  Works as expected.  Its awesome to be able to power the MixPre off camera battery.  Would buy again.

Only suggestion I have is that if you do use this to power your MixPre, and if you feed a signal back into your camera (i.e. not just record to the MixPre, but also send a scratch track signal from the MixPre to the camera), then you will want to get a ground loop isolator to put in your signal chain.  Otherwise the in-camera scratch track will have interference noise.  (The internal MixPre recording remains pristine.)

[0.52 lb] Works great!! I use it to charge my Timecode and other small USB devices in the sound bag (and sometime my phone in a jam) .

[0.52 lb] It is small and compact. I picked up a cable that is D-Tap to HIrose. I reached out to the Sound Devices about the wiring of this to make sure I could check if cables would work. Pins 1 and 2 are wired together and are positive, pins 3 and 4 are wired together and are the negative. This way you can check with cable manufactures to make sure it is wired correctly for your unit.

[0.52 lb] I bought this instead of the Sony mount sled because I prefer the slim form factor of 8 AA Battery sled for the Mix Pre 6. I felt that the Sony mount takes away from that slim form factor and requires a bigger audio bag to house it. Let me start off by saying that when I got it, I had my doubts about it, especially when it comes to opening the top battery lid to add the 4 additional batteries. After some practice I found that the easiest way to open the battery sled is to pinch both side of the top lid (opposite of the top latch) and lifting up. The arrow icon near the corned of the latch is useless and is hard to operate since you need to apply pressure to the latch to open the top lid while lifting. That being said, my recorder lasts a LONG time and would recommend the Panasonic Eneloop Pro batteries. Add a USB-C power bus and your recorder can easily last an entire shoot day.

[0.52 lb] An absurd price for a bit of molded plastic with no electronics at all, but it's the price to pay to play the Mixpre game, and I DO love that game. Hopefully it will be durable enough to justify the price, and useful enough to counteract the odd form factor it gives the Mixpre.

[0.52 lb] I use the USB C for power, but the 8AA batt sled is great backup and lasts longer than my current 4XX batt sled.
