Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is here an IOS version?

A: No, pc or mac only.

Q: 2. Does this work on Nikon Mirror less body's?

A: Yes Reikan FoCal Pro Lens Calibration is compatible with Nikon mirrorless cameras. In this link it lists the cameras that are supported and more information on the calibration process of each. https://www.reikanfocal.com/supported-cameras.html

Q: 3. Does the current version of the software support the new Canon 1DX Mark II? Or is a software update needed before it can be used?

A: Probably not. I just opened it and checked for updates (there weren't any). It's been a while since I last saw one and that update, as far as I understood, only really corrected bugs and didn't add any cameras.

Q: 4. Are the callinration settings potentially impacted by an extender? If so, does Cannon save callibration settings with and without the extender for the same lens?

A: Yes, the calibration settings are impacted by an extender. I use an extender with my long telephoto lenses. My Canon camera -5DMkIII- did save the settings for with and without the extender.

Q: 5. If I understand, I will have to run the program with each of my lens 9 Nikkor and Tamron G2. Is the camera record and keep in memory the correction result per lens ?

A: Yes. Each lens may have a different optimal AF Fine-tune set point. The last step in the FoCal is to enter the optimal AF-Fine tune number for that particular test. The (Nikon) camera will remember the setting for each lens tested and will automatically load that number when you put the lens on the camera. You can always change it manually, in the camera, for the lens that is on the camera. Test Zoom lenses at different focal lengths. You may have to compromise on the "best" setting since Nikon cameras only store one correction number for each lens.

Q: 6. Will this work with a Canon 70D and Sigma lenses?

A: yes with no problem.

Q: 7. Will it work with a Sony a7ii

A: According to the following page on Reikan's site https://blog.reikanfocal.com/2015/05/reikan-focal-2-test-release-2-now-available/, we should be able to use Reikan Focal Pro in “File Mode” with Sony A7 series files. However, I get an error message saying it is an unsupported camera whenever I try. From the page: “So if you want to calibrate a Sony 70-400 using an LA-EA4 on a Sony A7 camera, or check out the aperture sharpness results for a completely manual vintage Zuiko Jupiter 8 lens, you can do it easily now with File Mode!” Note: I'm using version 2.4 but this was announced in version 2.0

Q: 8. can this be used on a Canon 7D mark ii with tamron lenses?

A: Yes........

Q: 9. Will these work on Nikon zoom lenses?

A: Yes, you can use this product with Nikon zoom lenses.

Q: 10. How is the software supplied? Online download or CD or USB or which? Many new laptops do not have CD drive-thanks.

A: The software is downloaded from Reikan's website.

[Stereo] Anyone comfortable using a computer and software will find the Reikan FoCal very intuitive. Once you are setup as per the very well written instructions, the software basically walks you through all of the necessary steps to accomplish calibration of your lenses and camera. Beyond calibration if you are interested it also provides you detailed reports showing performance of your lens at the various apertures and AF Fine Tune settings. If you want to ensure your kit is performing at it's sharpest this software is well worth the price.

[Black / Brown] I recently purchased the Pro version of this software when it was on sale at B&H and not expecting that it would do much for my “S” lenses, I was astonished at the results.  There isn’t much difference between +/- 2 on the graphs for the “S” lenses compared to a greater difference on “F” mount or my Sigma lenses.  All my lenses required some form of adjustment but it seems my sharpest lens is the Sigma 18-35mm 1.8 - still trying to understand that one.  My 2nd sharpest is the 24-70mm f2.8 yet the best performing over all.
24-70mm f4 S            -1 at 24mm
24-70mm f2.8 S        +1 at 24mm, +3 at 70mm
50mm f1.8 S.             +2
Sigma 18-35mm       +3 at 20mm
70-300mm f5.6.        +3 at 70mm

14-30mm f4 S.           +1 at 24mm
The resulting graphs showed very little change between +2 and -2 for all the S lenses yet the program determined the most optimal setting for each lens tested.
Overall, I find this software to be very beneficial for my Z6 camera.

[Stereo] The strength of FoCal as opposed to Focus Align (which I have) is that the laptop software does the work including checking the physical installation.

[Dynamic] Load it up does most the work for you . Even checks it self when you use focus consistent.
It make a world of difference to your pictures. As I never manual focus

[Black / Brown] I got this originally because I bought a refurbished lens and, no matter what I did with it, my shots were coming in just slightly out of focus. I could have taken it to a shop for lens adjustments, but now I can do all my adjustments, for all my lenses, for each camera body, right at home. If you're a precisionist or a data junkie like me, this will make your day.

[Dynamic] These are great! Relatively easy to install, and the noise reduction when recording is really noticeable. I'm looking forward to pumping out a lot of high quality content thanks to my investment. They're really work as advertised.

While much less expensive options exist, and I encourage anyone wanting to do a sound treatment to look into them, if you're OK with the price, these are awesome!

Great work Auralex!

[Stereo] I tried 3 different subs over the last year to blend with my Focal Shape 50s. I didn't want to buy the Sub6, as it would't quite be a good fit for my space, so I tried other brands. None of them blended well and I ended up returning them. It took a little while to find the optimal phase adjustment, which I did by using a spectrum analyzer with a very slow response. The crossover ended up being 60Hz, which gives me a very smooth extension down to about 35Hz or so, allowing me to hear the sub frequencies and lowest notes of kick, bass and other instruments. They blend very well with the Shape 50s. It is worth mentioning that bass trapping is highly recommended, particularly when using a SUB. I also have Sonarworks to compensate for some residual room modes.

[Stereo] I bought this to get the ability to focus and control spot size. I then had to order a couple of these little Pepper lights. I got one with barn doors and the other Pepper will have this Focal Spot attachment. Although the adjusting blades assembly is a bit awkward to adjust and use; once you get the right tensioning, you can slide each one in and out, without affecting the position of the other three. I found that by removing one of these four adjustment blades, I could then insert a piece of heavy cardboard. By cutting out various shapes on these cardboard inserts, I could in effect come up with a sharply focused image-spot. For my application, that's more useful than the adjustable square/rectangle shapes you can obtain with the sliding blades. I do wish the way the front lens assembly slides in and out could be a bit smoother. The little locking screw that holds the lens in, has to be loosened each time you want to change the focus. That does get a bit problematic when the light has been on for a while. This whole assembly gets really hot. Think I'll invest in a pair of oven mits! Other than that, this is a keeper considering the price.

[Black / Brown] Very detailed sound, compared with genelec 7040a, jbl, Khali Audio, others just booming, but focal sub one gives very detailed bass, highly recommended

[Stereo] Used Reikan FoCal Plus to calibrate 3 lens with a Canon 90D. Two lens were Canon L glass (200mm f/2.8 L II, 24-70mm f/2.8 L II) and one lens Tamron (10-24mm f/3.5-4.5 Di II). Took less than 2 hours total including first time set-up of target, camera on tripod, and lighting (two desk lamps positioned close to target). Reikan FoCal Plus provided clear instructions and progress updates in each case, including very helpful set-up instructions for fine-tuning lighting and distances between camera and target. Ran several times for each lens to verify results. Very pleased with focus improvement for lenses, especially the Canon 200mm f/2.8 L II.
