Relatively small and lightweight, the DZOFilm VESPID 50mm T2.1 Lens PL EF Mountsis part of the VESPID series of lenses from DZOFilm and is well suited for independent and high-end full-frame cinematography. The lens has an 80mm front diameter, allowing it to work with virtually any cine-style matte box. The small size makes this lens an attractive option when working with drones and gimbals, as well as when shooting handheld or run-and-gun. The interchangeable PL mount and included EF mount allow you to use the fully manual lens on a variety of modern and vintage cine cameras, while the full-frame coverage supports sensors that have an image circle up to 46.5mm for use on cameras with sensors up to full-frame without vignetting..

The 16-blade iris, which is consistent throughout the VESPID prime lens lineup, creates round out-of-focus highlights that have a more natural appearance and contribute to the lens's natural-looking bokeh. The focus ring features 270° of rotation for precise focus pulls, and the iris ring has a generous 58° of rotation. Cine-style gear rings on the focus and iris rings make the lens compatible with cine-style lens accessories such as follow focus units, lens motors, and lens control systems.

This 50mm lens has an image circle that covers a full-frame sensor. When mounted on a camera with a Super35 sensor, it provides you with a tighter shot than if mounted on a camera with a full-frame sensor.

The lens features metal construction to withstand the rigors of daily production.

The common 80mm front diameter allows for quick lens changes as you don't have to swap out antireflection donuts or adapters to use the same matte box.

A minimum focusing distance of 14.57" allows you to get up close to your subject.

A: The rear element of the Vespid 21mm T2.1 lens (PL mount) protrudes 14.3mm. Therefore, it should be compatible with your Metabones PL-RF 0.71x speedbooster, given your requirement of it being shorter than 14.5mm.

Q: 5. Is it possible to get this with the EF mount installed instead of the PL mount? I would rather not take any risks swapping the mount myself.

[80 mm] I have been using the Vespid Lenses for both Personal and Professional use and I have been more than happy. They have a sturdy/solid build and design that you expect to find on a professional lens as well as putting out gorgeous imagery. The focus pills are buttery smooth and the lens produces nice bokeh. I also appreciate markings on the ACs side of the lens as well, small detail but a nice added touch. Can't wait to complete the set. Good pick ups for anyone wanting to get professional style Cine primes without spending a years salary for one. 5

[2.645 lb] I bought this lens along with the 100mm and now I'm waiting for the 25mm to be in stock since I like the look so much! The lens is sharp but not clinical like the sigma arts and has a beautiful roll-off from sharp details into the bokeh. Great colors and texture to the image with extremely minimal chromatic aberration (I've only seen it come up with extremely blown out background behind the subject). This is a HUGE difference from the Rokinon DSX which had such bad CA that most back-lit footage was unusable. Only cons to this lens are the weight and the extremely long focus throw if you're not shooting in a controlled set - the focus throw is definitely not ideal for fast paced environments, but still workable. All in all definitely pleased with these guys. 5

[46.5 mm] I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this lens. The bokeh bubbles are gorgeous, the image looks smooth and beautiful, it feels super sturdy, and it is just amazing to rack focus and t-stops. This was my first cinema lens and it has absolutely blown me away. The first video I shot on it, was gorgeous, and every video since has been gorgeous. It adds a soft kind of warm look that people have a tough time putting their finger on, but really like. A friend recently told me your new videos look different and she's right. I was mainly using a sigma 24-70 f2.8 before, and this gives such a different look. There is just a personality to this lens and I LOVE using it. Thank you DZO for making such a gorgeous lens, at a really nice price. 5

[46.5 mm] With my experience of shooting video, and using a focus motor or focus wheel. Cinema glass with hard stops make swapping out lenses and going into your shoot with 3 points of view in mind. To me, this is ultimate in film making. When your gear is easy to use, you do more. I am an absolute fan of this company and sold my prime Canon 35mm 1.4 II for this and it’s an UPGRADE. Get one 5

[16] Build quality is top notch, definitely has a nice heft to it that makes it feel rugged. Focus and aperture rings are super smooth, it's a dream to pull. Being full frame VV, small and compact, excellent bokeh, zero focus breathing, it's hard not to appreciate the crazy value these lenses bring at this price point. It definitely has some character as you will run into CA, edge softness, and flaring, but all of that is subjective anyway, so definitely test first. But personally, I like that. This isn't my favorite flare of all time but it's far from the worst as I kind of enjoy the subtle flare this gives. Also the fact that it has versatility of being able to swap mounts in an underrated quality. 5
