$3,237.00 $4,531.80

Power, connectivity, and reliability, the Canon Speedlite EL-1 Flash for Professional Photographyis an on-camera E-TTL / E-TTL II-compatible flash characterized by its flexibility to suit a variety of lighting needs. Featuring a xenon flashtube, greater exposure stability is possible along with a powerful guide number of 197' at ISO 100 and versatile exposure control from full 1/1 power down to 1/8192 power. Also distinct, the EL-1 utilizes the LP-EL rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack to promote shorter recycle times of around 0.9 sec, approximately 335 flashes per charge, and it contributes to improved thermal management and the flash's active cooling system.

The EL-1 fully supports EL-series RT flashes via its built in radio trigger and receiver. It can trigger up to 15 RT-series receiver Speedlites to produce light freely even when not attached to the camera. For even more creative possibilities, the EL-1 features Second-Curtain Sync.

The flash has a rugged physical design equivalent to the dust and water-resistance of the EOS-1D-series camera bodies. Its improved user interface incorporates an updated joystick design, display, and control layout and it features a tunable LED modeling lamp to help previsualize the lighting. Additionally, the flash head can fully swivel 180° left and right, bounce upward 120°, and it includes a built-in wide panel.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does anyone know how to activate the modeling lamp for remote EL-1's? I've tested between two EL-1's and hitting the Lamp button only activates the modeling lamp on the speedlight you pressed the button on.

A: The only way to be able to activate the modeling lamp on both of the EL-1's would be to use the Canon transmitter and control both from there. But sadly from testing, there does not appear to be any way to turn the modeling lamp of an EL-1 on from another EL-1.

Q: 2. I can't figure out how to get the IR beam activate with any flash I currently own with the Canon R5. Is it neccisary to use this flash in order to get the beam in a dark room?

A: Unfortunately, infrared auto-focus assist beams will not trigger or work in tandem with mirrorless cameras. This is unfortunately a limitation of mirrorless technology.

Q: 3. can I use the Canon CP-E4N Compact Battery Pack with the EL-1?

A: Yes, the plug from the CP-E4N will connect to the "external power source socket" on the EL-1. However, please note that few are likely to need that feature except those wanting it mostly to extend battery life. That's because the rechargeable battery used for the EL-1 can already allow it to recycle after a full power flash in just 0.9 seconds.

Q: 4. Do this flash Is it controllable wirelessly by the flash 430EX III-RT?

A: Yes, the 430EX III RT will communicate with the EL-1.

Q: 5. Can the Canon EL-1 be used on a Canon R5 to trigger external Canon 430 EX iii-RT units?

A: Yes, the Canon EL-1 can be used on a Canon R5 and will trigger an external Canon 430 EX iii-RT Speedlight.

Q: 6. I know it will work using a 430exii as the trigger. How would the recycle time be if the 430 does not fire but simply triggers the EL-1? (I'd hope it would still be just as fast as if it were on-camera!)

A: The 430exii offers very slow recycle time as it is a consumer based unit with no option for a high volt power pack. We suggest looking into the following unit as it will keep up in a more demanding environment. Godox TT685C II Flash for Canon Cameras BH #GOTT685IIC • MFR #TT685IIC https://bhpho.to/3QdhY0w

Q: 7. Can the flash be remotely triggered using the Pocket wizard Plus lll ?

A: Yes you can but you would need another pocket wizard to connect to the sync port on the Canon EL-1, but then you can trigger it remotely with the Pocket Wizard Plus III.

Q: 8. Has anyone had issues with Firmware update 1.0.2 released 3/31/23? Screen backlight pulses now.

A: As of today we have not had any one listing any issues with the latest firmware for the Canon Speedlite EL-1.

Q: 9. I have a Canon 90D. Is this unit compatible with it?

A: Yes, it is compatible with the 90D.

Q: 10. If I use the EL-1 at less than full power, will it recycle faster than 0.9 sec? If so, how fast will it recycle? I'd like to use the EL-1 as a fill-in flash in bright daylight. I assume I won't necessarily need full power for that. Would love it to recycle fast enough to take 2 or 3 shots per second. Will that be feasible?

A: According to Canon, the EL1 can recycle from 0.1-0.9 seconds, with the lower time frame being for the lowest power setting of 1/64. Unfortunately, they don't publish what the exact recycling time would be for any of the other power settings on this flash.

[0 to +120°] My only complaint about this flash gun is that it is too big and heavy (compared to EX580II that I owned before), but not big/heavy enough to make me to take a star out, lol. The battery life is just great (another battery type?! Hey people in Canon, are you doing this on purpose?) and the recycle time is much - MUCH - better than that of a EX580II. I do not regret spending $1K+ on it.

[180°] Excellent recycle times. AM happy with the dependability and color rendition at a family shoot.

[1/1 to 1/8192] As wedding, portrait and event photographers our added light is sometimes a must. And the EL-1 upgrade from the 600 series really helps our game for speed, durability consistency and ease of navigation when needed. And long lasting batteries. I have also stopped needing my external power pack and cord. Freedom. Downside, it's bigger than it's predecessor, and may feel heavier but I don't know actual weights with batteries. I would buy again.

[0 to +120°] The greatest advantage of the EL-1 compared to other Speedlites is its rechargeable battery, which can fire the flash hundreds of times on a single charge. A menu on the display screen shows the amount of power remaining, the number of shots that have already been taken, and the recharge efficiency of the battery.

The EL-1 is also easy to use in conjunction with other flashes, thanks to its built-in wireless capability. You can mount an EL-1 on your camera's hotshoe, and when you take a picture it will trigger a remote EL-1 to flash at the same time. Or you can put a wireless transmitter (Canon ST-E3-RT) on the hotshoe and trigger one or more EL-1s remotely. Just make sure that all of your devices are using the same Channel and ID settings.

[Yes] No more fumbling with AA batteries. No more waiting for the flash to recycle. This new flash is fast and reliable.

[PC, Proprietary] I recently switched for a 1DX2 to a R5 and obviously my 600RT was struggling to keep up. After watching a few videos and seeing this used in the burst mode I was settled. I am glad I purchased this along with the R5 as I do a lot of fast moving photography. It is excellent and the menu is simple to navigate and adjust the flash. The model mode is very helpful.

[14°] Excellent strobe, links easily with other Canon strobes. The back screen might look confusing at first, but you'll master it quickly. Now if Canon could just come out with like 200 or 400w strobe you'll never need another lighting company
