Add precise distance measurement to your subject for more accurate focus pulls with this Teradek TOF.1 Infrared Laser Range Finder for RTwhen using the Teradek TOF.1 Infrared Laser Range Finder for RTRT MDR.X receiver with either the CTRL.1 or CTRL.3 controller. The compact TOF.1 is small enough to mount onto your rig alongside the MDR.X unit, and it features a NATO rail and 1/4"-20 thread mounting options. A detachable laser sight is included to provide a red visual target for your focus puller, which is calibrated to the centered with the TOF.1 field of view. The TOF.1 is powered and controlled using a single 4-pin motor cable, which is also included.

The TOF.1 plugs into the MDR.X unit using the included 4-pin motor cable, which enables it to transmit distance information measured with infrared LEDs from the camera to your CTRL.1 or CTRL.3 controller. Using a serial/AUX connection to a compatible SmallHD monitor using its Rangefinder Overlay feature, you can also view the distance information transmitted to the controller right on the display. The TOF.1 has a 3° detection radius measured at your range to the target, which means a target 16' away will have a detection diameter of 10". Range detection is easily calibrated using the MDR.X controller menu system. Other features include a smoothing algorithm to reduce jitter, a range up to 100', and a refresh rate of up to 60x per second.

The TOF.1 data is also compatible with SmallHD monitors with PageOS 4 software, allowing you to update your CTRL.1 or CTRL.3 with the RT overlay option to read the distance data right on your SmallHD monitor.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Wich lenses can the rangefinder interface directly connect to via 4-pin lemo to not need to calibrate the lenses? Would Cooke /I and Zeiss/XD work via 4-pin lemo port?

A: So far, these are the lenses that have been announced as working with the DJI LiDAR Range Finder for RS (B&H# DJRSRF) without calibration, and none other: DZOFilm VESPID Cyber Full Frame 35mm T2.1 Prime Lens (PL & EF Mounts) (B&H# DZOVC03521) DZOFilm VESPID Cyber Full Frame 50mm T2.1 Prime Lens (PL & EF Mounts) (B&H# DZOVC05021) DZOFilm VESPID Cyber Full Frame 75mm T2.1 Prime Lens (PL & EF Mounts) (B&H# DZOVC07521)

Q: 2. Does it work with other DJI gimbals?

A: The DJI LiDAR Range Finder is only compatible with the DJI Ronin 4D.

Q: 3. With the RS3 Pro and transmission unit, could the lidar be used to autofucs and track at the same time the transmission unit is being used to monitor? Would you still be able to control functions using a pair of Ronin 4d handles as well? I presume you would have to daisy chain the USB C's for the focus motor and lidar, so would that cause any lose in functionality?

A: The DJI LiDAR Range Finder for RS (B&H# DJRSRF) is used to find the range of the subject for autofocus. The transmission unit is just used to broadcast the image signal. The two may be used at once. As for using the DJI Ronin 4D Handgrip Combo (B&H# DJR4DHGC) on the DJI High-Bright Remote Monitor (B&H# DJHBRM) for control, that is also possible. They will all function.

Q: 4. How should this lidar be wired to work with the Focus Pro Grip? It says its compatible with the latest firmware

A: The DJI Focus Pro Grip (BH #DJFPG) connects to the DJI Focus Pro LiDAR via USB-C.

Q: 5. What capacity, if any, will the RS2 focus motor work when combined with RS 3 Pro Gimbal? (Combo = RS 3 Pro Gimbal, Lidar for RS, and RS 2 Focus motor)

A: The DJI Ronin Focus Motor for RS 2 and RSC 2 is not listing capability with the DJI LiDAR Range Finder for RS. If looking to pair the DJI LiDAR Range Finder for RS with the DJI RS 3 Pro Gimbal Stabilizer, consider using the DJI RS Focus Motor (2022).

Q: 6. Is this compatible with the Ursa 12 K Pro?

A: No, the DJI LiDAR Range Finder for RS 3 Pro is only designed to function and work with the DJI RS3 Pro gimbal. However, there are users out there that have been able to use the DJI Lidar and lens motor off gimbal. This setup has many limitations, but it would allow you to use the Lidar with cameras like the Black Magic Ursa.

Q: 7. Will this be released as a standalone autofocus system you can put on any camera?

A: This product is a part of the DJI Ronin 4D system it is not capable of working with any other camera system at this time. Only DJI can confirm/deny whether or not they plan to develop new products to work with other camera systems.

Q: 8. Is the Lidar frequency closer to 905 or 1550 nanometers?

A: DJI does not provide any information about the DJI LiDAR Range Finder frequency range.

Q: 9. Will the rangefinder work with the focus motor also when not connected to the gimbal? Eg tripod shots, handheld shots etc on different rigs without gimbal?

A: At this time, DJI has only recommended support for the DJI LiDAR Range Finder for DJI RS stabilizer systems.

Q: 10. Doesn't this come with the base 4D camera? If it's only compatible with the 4D and comes with it, why is it sold separately?

A: The DJI LiDAR Range Finder is offered separately since it is a very important component of the 4D system. This allows the user to have a back-up or a replacement for one lost or damaged.

[60x per Second] I’ve been looking at this cable since it was announced, very curious on how the mdrx and cinetape integration works. It’s also very unclear to which version or models of cinetape it has to be, is it Cinematography Electronics, cinebug or Arri so to answer some questions. This works with the C. E. Cinetape original and cinetape 2 although still unclear about the other models it works with the original cinetape makers. This is a direct connection from the mdrx aux 1 port into the cinetape’s remote port. It’s very easy to set up and depending on the condition of your cinetape works extremely well and awesome paired with the ctrl 1 or 3 hand units and small hd monitors.

[60x per Second] the ability to autofocus without the ronin gimbal is stellar

the fact that this makes perfect use of an already amazing product is awesome ! it does its job as expected. the only thing I wish is for stronger motors for DJI but nonetheless it doesn't disappoint

[Infrared LED] Used it with the V-mount/IO expansion module and it worked as expected. You'll need to set the RTMotion controller to the ARRI trigger mode with this configuration.

[Infrared LED] At first I was a bit causes to get it cause my aim was to go for the Lidar Pro bundle. But since it’s still new, places are out of stock and here in South Africa, we struggle to get tech like this. But B&H, I am more than happy about this product, delivering was on point as expected and professional. My Nisi Lenses can enjoy getting pulled haha.

[1.315 lb] This is an an amazing tool of you have to do solo or low light shoots. No more worrying about whether what you're shooting is in focus. I have used their 3d focus, but this is autofocus for manual lenses, on overdrive.
