Is it just a bit smaller than other Concentro speakers? Yes, but that's not all. The Concentro M exhibits characteristic design cues, but creates its own unique visual impact. Concentro proves that the whole can be even greater than the sum of its many state-of-the-art parts. A variable VX chassis lets you tailor the sound to your listening area, while four 8.7" woofers, installed in a pulse-compensated configuration, ensure exceptional bass delivery in any room.

Through the use of aluminum, resonances that affect the linearity of common paper cones can be placed beyond the driver's operating frequency range. The motor structure features a large 3" diameter voice coil with oversized magnet and a vented pole piece to increase power handling, for accurate reproduction of bass frequencies that are clean, clear, and powerful.

The eye-catching surface of the crystal membrane is more than just an attractive design feature. The midrange/woofers of the Concentro employs the Crystal Membrane and the design is based on ELAC's Aluminum-Sandwich AS Technology. The crystal-shaped inverse aluminum dome is joined to the paper cone in a special gluing process to result in the desired sandwich construction. Resembling the surface of a large crystal, the aluminum-foil stamping stiffens the aluminum dome, diminishing resonances and minimizing coloration, while improving power handling and dynamics.

Delivering true high-definition sound, ELAC's JET 5 tweeter enthralls with its lightning-fast response and wide dynamic range, offering minimal distortion, lots of headroom and a distinctly wider frequency range than conventional dome tweeters. The ELAC JET tweeter is one of the most legendary tweeters in the industry and has won international praise with its transparent and effortless sound image.

The JET tweeter was developed to perfection on the basis of the famous Air Motion Transformer by loudspeaker pioneer Dr. Oskar Heil. Its operating principle is based on a concertinaed-foil membrane, driven by a strong neodymium magnet. This motor drives the air considerably faster than that of a conventional driver, with gains in higher sensitivity and extraordinary dynamics. Due to many additional design changes, like an improved new neodymium magnet system, even higher efficiency, higher sound pressure levels, and frequency response up to 50 kHz was achieved.

The core of the JET tweeter is the folded foil membrane. With a fold width of only 0.033", a major requirement in the JET production is precision. To guarantee repeated accuracy and unchanging quality even with high production capacity, gluing and handling are now executed by two SCARA robots. The folding and fixing of the membrane, however, are executed by hand, since for production steps requiring extreme precision, the manual dexterity of skilled technicians is irreplaceable. Due to continuous improvement, the JET 5 tweeter creates an effortless, airy, and resonance-free image up to 50 kHz. With its linear frequency response, the Concentro M is ideally suited for the reproduction of hi-res formats.

The base of the Concentro is a complex design machined from a single piece of aluminum that has a matte, clear-anodized finish. Weighing more than 55 lb, the base employs four adjustable, high-definition spikes for maximum stability and ideal coupling to hard or soft floor surfaces.

  • Nominal impedance of 4 ohms; suitable for 4 to 8 ohm amplifiers; minimal impedance of 2.8 ohms at 380 Hz
  • AS XR ring radiator midrange design, concentric to the tweeter, with a 2.76" inner diameter and a 5.51" outer diameter

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can the speaker be connected with banana plugs?

A: Yes.They have a special connector that is a twist connector and those same threaded shafts have the centers hollowed out to accept bananna plugs.(They have a plastic cap which you simply pull out to access the holes). You will enjoy the sound.

Q: 2. Can you please tell is there a pair of speakers in the box (in other words two speakers) or only one speaker?

A: There is only one speaker in the box.

Q: 3. I have a question regarding this speaker. I bought a pair with CS3 Bookshelf and subwoofer from Sony. I need to choose an AVR and I am quite confused. The CS3 has a 145 Watts maximum input power. On the Web, I have found that choosing an underpowered AVR could damage the speaker due to clipping. I have also found that there should be no problem with a more powerful AVR. Finding an amplifier or AVR supporting 6 ohms speakers with 145 Watts maximum is not obvious for a 7.2.6 home cinema room. What should I choose: an underpowered amplifier/AVR or a more powerful one? For example, is choosing an AVR of 170W for 6 ohms with 2 channel driven would be okay (the power decreases when all channels are used)? Thanks in advance.

A: You will not need n amplifier or receiver that is rated to the maximum peak input power of this speaker. You will not have to worry about clipping if the receiver is rated from say 65 to 125 watts RMS per channel at 6 ohms. SOONY does not provide the more accurate RMS or Continuous rating, but it is closer to 75w per channel at 6 ohms.

Q: 4. What is the ideal speaker wire to get for these speakers? What's the highest gauge can I use with these speakers?

A: I suggest using 14-gauge speaker wire for cable runs up to 100' feet. Anything heavier is simply wasteful if you are using a quality, sufficiently powered amplifier/receiver.

Q: 5. im from India.. It's International Warranty?

A: The included warranty is USA only.

Q: 6. Are these speakers good just for a 2 channel system or are they only for surround sound?

A: The SS-CS3 is compatible for use in a stereo set up or a surround sound set up.

Q: 7. Its International Warranty?

A: The Sony SS-CS3 speaker has a one year Sony US warranty only.

Q: 8. What is the country of manufacture? (Where are the speakers made?)

A: It is made in MALAYSIA.

Q: 9. # What type is the connecting port of SVS Prime Pinnacle (Premium Black Ash) Speaker?

A: 5-Way Binding Post Pair

Q: 10. Can i use this in India?

A: Yes, the SS-CS3 is powered by your receiver and/or your amp.

[Floorstanding ] Got 4 of these on sale (half off). Excellent speaker for the price and size. Handles power from my onkyo THX Select SR608 up to moderately high volume. Even produce some decent bass for the size. This is a very bright sounding speaker. The Sony ATMOS speakers fit on top perfectly.

[3-Way] These speakers are outstanding, i have 4 of these for over 2 years now and they still sound brand new. The finish is perfect. These speakers exceeded my expectations. With a lot of crankabillity while still keeping the clarity of it turned down. Exceptional bass output for towers, superb midrange, and amazing tweeter. I have the matching center channel, and Klipsch triple 12 sub, and a 6.1 Yamaha receiver. The sub can't keep up with the speakers, and its a 1400 dollar sub. Problems Encountered: The piano finish attracts dust like a magnet.

[80 to 600 W] i've sampled many speakers priced upto $2000 a pair, but to get anything significantly better than these you have to spend atleast $3200-$4000 a pair. so picture the sound quality from these yourself.

[80 to 600 W] These floor speakers are very compact, but they still pack decent bass punch, smooth mids and clear highs

[80 to 600 W] The sound, build and finish of these is positively incredible. Listening to my music library, with them powered by the marantz model 30 is like hearing it for the first time all over again.

They have a pleasant roll off on highs, so everything is crisp, but nothing feels piercing. Mids are splendid. The low end leaves a little to be desired for sub bass, but that’s expected from this type of speaker. The lows this does cover are powerful and robust.

The one quirky thing about them, is the feet are not attached. They are little spikes and platters that you rest them on. This means it is *always* a two person job to move the speakers. Not an issue, if you don’t move them often, but I could see that being a problem for some people.

Overall though, I simply cannot recommend these enough. They are fantastic.

[3-Way] First, the audio: When it comes to audio, beauty is in the ear of the listener. I debated the 555 versus the 777 and purchased the 555. No regrets. When the Yamaha RX-V4A receiver in front of the speakers was fine-tuned, these speakers cover the complete range of audio output and do it well. When the drummer smacks the sticks into the rim of the snare drum, it is as clear as being there. The bass produced is clear, certainly adequate and not a muddled boom.
Second the physical: The assembly is easy, the support foot attachment could be improved with pre-installed nutserts and machine screws instead of wood screws attaching the feet to the cabinets. The grilles look good and apparently are meant to stay in place and not intended for (easy) removal. The polished black exterior looks great.
Every listener's auditory capabilities and taste in sound are different. The NS-555 meets my expectations well in both categories. All at a reasonable price. Thanks B & H.

[3-Way] I am a proud 3 year owner of a pair of NS-555's and I have to tell you, if you are in the 2 to 3thousand dollar price range for a set of main speakers, you would simply feel robbed if you don't at the very least give these speakers a good audition! Read all the reviews on these speakers...user reviews...all of them, not one is a negative one. In fact all of them say the same thing...these speakers are ridiculously cheap for how good they sound! I listen to lots of jazz and blues...two channel music. I have an HK AVR130 and a Rotel RDV1060 and a Sonicwave Pure Glass optical interconnect. These speakers reveal detail and nuances that seem to float in front of you! Bass is tight and surprisingly deep. It took me a while to angle them right, taking into account the wave guide horns that do just that guide the sound, to achieve the optimum soundstage imaging. I can say that after some slight adjustments you can really achieve great soundstaging! And this to all of you that thinks the Japanese can't make a great sounding speaker....NOT! Its now time for the Europeans to make a speaker that sounds this good...for this cheap!!!! Yeah right! The NS-555's are as good as any speaker under 2 grand a pair easy! And none are more beautiful! Problems Encountered: The only thing to recommend is to turn the speakers up side down right out of the box so you can install the corner supports. They are very well designed and effectively stabilizes the speaker by expanding the footprint. The speakers are not light so be careful and it would be advised to have a soft towel or carpet under the speakers when you unpack them.

[3-Way] I upgraded, way over due, my home theater system that was 10 years old, by replacing the TV and Speakers, and Receiver and subwoofers.

I was face with a dilemma, wanting speakers that can double for fronts while watching movies, but also can be enjoyed in a stereo only configuration, while sounding great at both.

The SVS Pinnacles were the answer. The sound is refined, pure and very musical while in stereo listening, and strong, powerful, loud & clear while watching movies.

I am glad and very satisfied with those speakers purchase. The service from B&H was as usual world class and prompt. The speakers delivered in 3 days from ordering time.

I highly recommend those speakers for any genres or use , no matter what the sound is amazing, also paired with a pair of SVS SB-2000's subwoofers.

Highly recommend.

[3-Way] They’re in a large space (a so-called great room). Working from a 75W Yamaha amp. Really good sound.
