Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I know very little about PoE. Any problems hooking up non PoE devices to a PoE switch?

A: No, the devices communicate so the power is sent correctly and accordingly.

Q: 2. Will this device power 8 POE+ ports at 15w each? Or only 3 b/c it’s 45w power budget? If 3, which device will power 8 x 15w?

A: That is correct, the Ubiquiti Networks UniFi Lite 16-Port Gigabit PoE+ Compliant Managed Switch (BH #UBSLITE16POE) supports three RJ45 ports at 15W simultaneously. For your use case, the Ubiquiti Networks UniFi Switch Enterprise 8 8-Port 2.5Gb PoE+ Compliant Managed Network Switch with SFP+ (BH #UBUSWENPRS8P) would be a good alternative to consider, as it can output 15W of power from 8 of it's RJ45 ports simultaneously.

Q: 3. Does this make your internet faster with a separate router and Modem?

A: The Ubiquiti Networks UniFi Lite 8-Port Gigabit PoE+ Compliant Managed Switch will not improve internet connection speeds, however, it may improve speeds between devices on the network if your current switch has less internal throughput.

Q: 4. Can this be used as an unmanaged switch?

A: The Ubiquiti Networks UniFi Lite 16-Port Gigabit PoE+ Compliant Managed Switch BH #UBSLITE16POE is a managed switch that would need to be configured for use in your network.

Q: 5. Is this switch rack-mountable? and if so, how many rack space does it occupy and does it come with the rack ears?

A: This Netgear GS316EP 16-Port Gigabit PoE+ Compliant Unmanaged Switch with SFP is not a rack mount switch.

Q: 6. Does this switch support 802.11at?

A: This switch supports 802.3at. We are not aware of an 802.11at standard.

Q: 7. Is this the correct switch to add two Ubiquiti UniFi U6-lite Access Points in a home setting? Running cat 6 to each location during construction. Not that tech savvy. Thanks!

A: Yes, this Ubiquiti Networks UniFi Lite 8-Port Gigabit PoE+ Compliant Managed Switch will work to add two Ubiquiti Networks Unifi 6 Lite AX1500 Dual-Band PoE-Compliant Access Points.

Q: 8. I expect the PoE demand to be on only 3 to 4 ports and about 30 watts total. Are the fans thermostatically controlled perhaps not running at all?

A: The fans are thermostatically controlled. In a standard room temp environment they might come on twice a day for 2mins. If the fans are too loud for you environment you can replace them with Noiseblocker fans.

Q: 9. I would like to know what is the power adapter input power data: voltage and frequency?

A: As per the manufacturer the Ubiquiti Networks UniFi Lite 8-Port Gigabit PoE+ Compliant Managed Switch uses a External 54V/60W Power Adapter using 54VDC, 1.1A with a max power consumption of 8W.

Q: 10. which port do you use to connect to internet?

A: You can connect it to any port - doesn't matter. Think of a Network Switch like a distribution box for network traffic.

[10,000 Bytes] I am a 30+ Telecommunications Technician by trade. At work I use high end Networking gear. At home I dont have the budgets they do at work. I want reliable, affordable and easily configurable devices for my home Network and family use. Last thing I want to do is come home and troubleshoot Network Issues. This is my second Trendnet product. It foot the bill for all my criteria for years and as my Network grew I stuck with Trendnet. There tech support is excellent as well. As far as CONS, I havent found any yet, except internal power transformer would be nice on all models, those bricks take up a lot of space on Power strips

[12.00 W (Max)] Recently ran cat5 cabling into the living room and wanted a quality switch to handle the media devices. I was going to get a Netgear switch, but more people recommended this switch over those. It had great reviews and was less expensive. Everything hooked up without issue and from what I can tell, it's performing great!

[32 Gb/s ] Works perfect straight out of the box. Connects my Mac, printer, synology nas, and HomeKit hubs seemlessly. No reason to spend more for a quick gigabit switch for the home office.

[Metal] Easy setup. Works flawlessly, even though I have it chained into another switch and then a router. Power saving features work as advertised. ... The only improvement could be better mounting options. I wanted to mount the unit vertically using screws and the keyholes in the case. The keyholes are drilled so that you can only mount it with ports facing right, up, or down (not left). Not a problem for me, but it might be for someone else. On the plus side, rubber feet are included if you just want to lay it on a horizontal surface.
