With DB25 connectors providing 16 channels of balanced analog line-level audio to and from the Dante audio network, the A16R MkII is ideal for merging external mic preamps, mixer channels, and cue systems with a Dante network. Primary and secondary Dante connectivity is available on dual locking etherCON ports.

In addition to the main analog inputs and outputs, the RedNet A16R MkII features stereo AES3 I/O on XLR jacks and dual sample rate converters for the AES3 inputs. To allow synchronization with a wide range of external sources and hardware, the interface includes BNC wordclock input and output ports and support for DARS (Digital Audio Reference Signal) through the XLR input.

The RedNet A16R MkII is fitted with two separate power supplies with auto-switchover capability to maintain reliable operation in the event of a failure. Plus, locking IEC inlets on the rear of the unit prevent unintended power cable disconnection at the interface. Power-supply status is indicated both remotely and on the front panel. Additionally, the interface features a rugged, roadworthy exterior that occupies just 1 RU of rack space.

The RedNet A16R MkII is a 16-channel analog line-level interface for Dante audio-over-IP networks (AES67, AES70 and SMPTE 2110 compliant). The 1 RU rackmount device features individual input/output channel level control and calibration available in ±1 dB increments via digital trim faders with mute and dim functions, allowing for precise calibration and control of all input and output levels using RedNet Control software.

The RedNet A16R MkII is outfitted with high-performance AD/DA converters that support up to 24-bit / 192 kHz resolution. With 119 dB dynamic range and a flat frequency response (±0.15 dB from 20 Hz to 20 kHz), the interface ensures no-compromise recording and audio playback. Level alignment can be set to +18 or +24 dBu via the software.

Featuring power-supply and Ethernet redundancy with auto switchover, the RedNet A16R MkII can provide continued operation in the event of a failure at the main power and audio lines, ensuring silent fail-over during power or network outages.

Various connection options make RedNet A16R MkII a flexible addition to any audio-over-IP system. Four DB25 multipin connectors (AES59 standard configuration) are provided to bring balanced analog line-level signals into and out of the interface, while XLR ports enable two-channel digital AES3 connections to be made. All connectors lock and remain terminated even under stress, providing worry-free installation and peace of mind once situated in a rack.

Sample rate conversion on both AES3 inputs enables external equipment to operate at different sample rates, and DARS signals are accepted on the XLR connector. Wordclock I/O on BNC connectors allow synchronization to a house clock or from external equipment to the Dante network.

The interface boasts full operability with Focusrite RedNet and Red interfaces, plus all Dante devices from hundreds of manufacturers. Take advantage of remote routing and control using RedNet Control and Dante Controller software on a Mac or Windows computer.

LED indicators are presented on the front panel for PSU, network, sample-rate, signal-presence, and clock-source status, keeping you informed of the interface's critical functions at a glance. Metering for all inputs and outputs can also be found on the front panel of the RedNet A16R MkII.

A: The Focusrite Scarlett 18i8's preamps are technically powerful enough for a dynamic microphone like SM7b or the RE20, but best results and the lowest noise floor will still be had with a mic activator such as the CL1 CloudLifter.

Q: 3. does this interface work with Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro 250 version?

A: These headphones will be compatible with the headphone output of this interface, but due to the headphones' impedance you may need to turn the volume up higher than usual if you are not using them with a separate headphone amplifier.

[AC Input] There seems to be more head room with generation 3 over the previous. Both vocal and guitar recordings are noticeably improved and I don't think it's because I've gotten better. We run an older sound board at church where it's necessary to tweak levels to maximize gain without adding unwanted distortion this solution used at home is like winning the lottery. I connect it, set it and enjoy making music knowing the Scarlett it doing it's job. I haven't shared it with the church crowd yet. Does that make me a bad person? 5

[AC Input] Overall this is a great interface. Lots of I/O and so far the drivers seem really stable with low latency (Windows 10, Cubase 12). Everything sounds clear with lots of headroom to spare. I also really like having the dim and mute buttons as opposed to software-only control for those features. My only complaint that would reduce my rating to 4.5 stars is I could is the headphone output mapping. Headphone outs 1 and 2 are hardwired to outputs 7/8 and 9/10, respectively. This is common practice but I really wish headphone out 1 was tied to the main speaker outputs (1/2) as that's where I'm always sending the full mix. I bought this interface for extra I/O to integrate with outboard gear and I was bummed to learn I have two less outs than I thought (at least if I also want to have the full mix to my headphones). Not a deal breaker, but not ideal. 5

[13.985 lb] I bought this to record drums. With 8 inputs, I can mic 2 overheads, 2 on the snare (top and bottom), kick, rack tom and floor tom, and still have an input to track bass at the same time. I’m using this with Studio One 5 Pro and had no problem setting it up and recording in the same day. Pristine sound and zero latency issues. Great interface - love it. 5

[AC Input] This isn't my first Focusrite. The quality, as always, is top notch. Easy to Set up and Use. The software to set up configuration was easy to use. I had a question at the time of set up and was surprised that Focusrite Support answered my call in less than one minute and answered my question immediately. You can't go wrong with this unit.. 5

[1 RU] This is the best option for monitor level and routing control with the Focusrite Red series interfaces. And, by extension, some control of their other Rednet Dante interfaces. It controls output options from mono all the way up to 7.1.4. With the added bonus of an assignable headphone out and talkback mic. 5

[AC Input] This controller is pure genius, for the life of me I don't know how they pull it off. Partially by hijacking the custom mixes of your 4Pre or whatever, but there seems to be more going on than that. At any rate this has transformed my studio. One, you get the great displays telling you at a glance both your routing and your metering. Two, the flexibility of it is out of this world. Eight input setups, 4 output, Cue mixes, headphone and no less than four talkback, not to mention the dimming, summing and other features. I've had the RED 4PRE for a number of years and never got a decent routing setup out of it - THIS simplifies the whole thing. Combined with Dante now I've got three computers routing to one master (4Pre), multiple Dante devices, include Bluetooth so I can monitor my phone or whatever. This has empowered my interconnected studio like none other, and I can do 12 channel ATMOS with it. And all digital and networked! All my other monitor controllers have been analog and don't hold a candle to this. It's worth converting your studio to RED just for this. No real downsides. 32 channels maximum used for input and cue routing. We can't expect unlimited, but another 4 our 8 would have been perfect, perhaps Focusrite could come out with a interface with the FPGA chops for this?
