Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this work well with a Rode Pod Mic? Or too heavy?

A: Yes, the Rode PodMic can be mounted on the Auray MS-5230T tripod mic stand. You may want to use sand bags on the base of the stand to prevent any movement. If you want a stand with a heavier base, the K&M 21070 Tripod Microphone Stand with 32" Boom - Black (B&H # KM21070) is a good option.

Q: 2. What size Threading Adapter do I need?

A: It really depends on what device you are trying to connect. The standard threading is 5/8 -27.

Q: 3. Would this stand be suitable for a shotgun mic (like the Rode NTG2)? I want to use it for interviews.

A: I believe so, it's possible you may need a different clamp than the one that comes with it. Note that although it is a telescoping boom, you still need to balance the weight, so make sure the distance is sufficient.

Q: 4. So with the main pole at max height of 31", and then the boom extended straight up at 33" max extension, you could get a mic 64" off the ground?

A: No. While the boom length is listed as 33 inches, when the boom is vertical (easily done), there is considerable overlap of the stand and the boom. Also, the top of the stand itself is more like 29 inches. With everything extended as high as possible, the top of the boom is just over 56 inches from the floor.

Q: 5. Folded into its smallest configuration, is the overall length greater than 19"?

A: The Auray MS-5230T's minimum height is 36.2 inches.

Q: 6. how much weight can it hold?

A: It's a Mic stand, it has no problem with an added goose neck and a wireless microphone.

Q: 7. Will I need an adapter to attach a pistol grip with a 3/8"-16 female threading?

A: Yes you will, here's an option B&H # ONMA100.

Q: 8. How tall is the mic stand itself, or how hight does it extend without the boom arm?

A: The base of the Auray MS-5230T Tripod Microphone Stand reaches a height of up to 63 inches. The telescoping boom arm can extend up to 33.9". Together these components allow the MS-5230T to reach a total height of almost 96 inches when the arm is oriented directly upwards.

Q: 9. What is the total length at collapse position? I want a stand with arm that will fit inside my Pelican 1650 case for flights.

A: I contacted the manufacturer to confirm the collapsed length of the Auray MS-5220T Short Tripod Microphone Stand. The collapsed length of the stand without the boom arm attached is 17.7” and 24.5” with the boom arm attached.

Q: 10. -Is this tripod really stable to mount a Cascade Microphone New Fat Head II with its Shockmount (# CA119A MFR # 119-A)?

A: I have a iRig Studio Mic, A Metal Pop Filter, and a metal script holder mounted on this Stand. I think it should be able to handle it.

[Boom Stand] Surprised by the quality of this mic. I usually buy K&M but B&H recommended this as a lightweight alternative. Like it so far, I wouldn't hang a U87 on it in the studio but a Beta 58 for live is working out perfectly. Highly recommend.

[Steel] Had them for a short time and they hold in place well despite the apparent attempt to abuse them by visiting choirs and children during Bible study, Sunday school, and choir rehearsal. The boom joist is plastic, but holding up well. We’ve had metal ones break within months of purchase. Solid product. We’ve bought more.

[Boom Stand] I use this stand to hold up a Blue Yeti mic. It works great although I needed to hold the stand in place with a sandbag due to the mic being quite heavy.

[Screw-Knob] Many thoughtful ease of use features, both for recording (cable clips, easy to operate adjustments) and transportation. Sturdy enough for most microphones in controlled environments.

[5 lb] This does exactly what it's meant to and the price is right. I trust Auray as a brand, and have several other products of theirs. All in all you get a great stand for the price.

[Screw-Knob] This stand is very sturdy - much more than I was expecting. I have a heavy reflection filter mounted onto it, as well as a mic and shock mount. It does not feel like it will topple over. It seems to be able to handle the weight fine, even without sandbags.

[Tripod] I'm a visual artist and I bought this mic stand to hold my iphone when taking photos of art in progress on my workbench. I'd had trouble with a different brand whose knob at the pivot point holding the boom wouldn't stay tight. The knob on the Auray stand tightens up nicely and stays in place even when I put the boom at a nearly 90 degree angle to the pole. I really appreciate the help that B&H staff gave me in selecting this stand.

[33.5 x 4 x 4"] I've used inexpensive stands before and they always seem kind of flimsy, this one seems to be very well-built and very adequate for most live microphone set ups.
