Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can you detach the tripod base from the main rod that fits into it?

A: No, it is not possible to detach the tripod base of the MS-5230T from the stand's main rod.

Q: 2. What is this boom arm's max weight capacity? The mic I want to use is roughly 3-3.5 lbs with the shock mount.

A: The manufacturer has not specified a maximum weight capacity, but the Auray MS-GIGBOOM is intended for use with lighter weight mics, like a traditional handheld style vocal mic. You may want to consider using something with better counterweight like the Ultimate Support Ulti-Boom Pro Telescoping Microphone Boom (B&H # ULTSMB) which has a 0.65 lb counterweight, or the Atlas Sound B2237 Platinum Design Series 37" Microphone Stand Boom (B&H # ATB2237) which has a 0.5 lb counterweight, or the Atlas Sound PB15EB Fixed-Length 34" Microphone Boom (B&H # ATPB15E) which has a 2 lb counterweight.

Q: 3. What size is screw the thread on the tip of the stand?

A: The Auray MS-5230T Tripod Microphone Stand with Telescoping Boom features a standard 5/8"-27 thread for mounting microphones and other compatible devices.

Q: 4. What is this arm's max weight capacity when fully extended?

A: This is not a publsished specification. I would keep it under 5 lbs.

Q: 5. What size Threading Adapter do I need?

A: It really depends on what device you are trying to connect. The standard threading is 5/8 -27.

Q: 6. -Is this tripod really stable to mount a Cascade Microphone New Fat Head II with its Shockmount (# CA119A MFR # 119-A)?

A: I have a iRig Studio Mic, A Metal Pop Filter, and a metal script holder mounted on this Stand. I think it should be able to handle it.

Q: 7. Would this stand be suitable for a shotgun mic (like the Rode NTG2)? I want to use it for interviews.

A: I believe so, it's possible you may need a different clamp than the one that comes with it. Note that although it is a telescoping boom, you still need to balance the weight, so make sure the distance is sufficient.

Q: 8. is 33.9" the max length the arm can extend from the center of the stand, or is that the max length from end to end of the boom arm?

A: The max length of boom end to end is 33.9"

Q: 9. Would this work well to hold a cardioid mic above seated interviewees?

A: The Auray MS-5230T Tripod Microphone Stand with Telescoping Boom will work for mounting a microphone above a seated interview subject, but the camera shot would be affected by the close proximity of the stand to the subject, due to the lack of length in the stand's boom arm. A more preferable method would be to mount a boom pole onto a C-stand/light stand with a "boom mate" style adapter such as the BoomMate BPH Boompole Holder and Grip Head Kit (BH #BOBPHV2K). This method will allow the stand to be placed much further from the subject (the length of the boom pole) and not have such an influence over the camera shot, so that a wider angle can be used if desired.

Q: 10. How tall is the mic stand itself, or how hight does it extend without the boom arm?

A: The base of the Auray MS-5230T Tripod Microphone Stand reaches a height of up to 63 inches. The telescoping boom arm can extend up to 33.9". Together these components allow the MS-5230T to reach a total height of almost 96 inches when the arm is oriented directly upwards.

[Tripod] Nice price & nice quality. This replaced a boom I had for many years.

[Boom Stand] Perfect companion to the Auray traveling stand I picked up. Sturdy, reliable and easily adjustable. The cable clip keeps things tidy and I was able to put the whole thing together in seconds.

[Steel] Well made, tightens/loosens easily, but doesn't droop or come loose.

[Telescoping] Works well, as advertised.

[Boom Stand] Auray stands are simply superior to all other stands in this price range. They look great and this one works perfectly for mike-ing up acoustic guitars without getting in the way. I use with an Aurey boom mic stand for vocals. Great live gig set-up.

[Telescoping] For the price it's more than adequate. Don't get Jamsticks, they break and don't separate. This basically is cheaper version of the K&M stands (which are the best) but as a non-audio guy this is more than adequate.

[Screw-Knob] Knobs don't need a lot of exerted effort to tighten unlike another budget boom arm I've tried. Pleased with ease of use and handling.
