I am not sure what exactly you mean by label on the outside . Putting a genuine Sony X battery into the Watson X plate will result with the back of the battery showing. However, if you have a third party X battery, most likely the front of the battery label will be visible. You don't have to guess, though. Looking at the four battery contacts on the edge of your battery, the four contacts are offset to one edge, and you should insert the battery into the plate with the four offset contacts nearest the inside back of the plate's receptacle. Also you can just use your eyes and, with the battery in the plate, look at the two pins coming out of the plate. If you have the battery in backwards, one of the two plate pins will not be touching any of the battery's four contacts. I have never really timed the charging, but it seems that the Watson Duo will charge two dead Sony X batteries in a couple of hours.
