Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I've sold my Canon gear for the Fuji XT 20. Looking for a zoom lens for surf photography to replace my 100-400 which was perfect. Would this lens do the job?

A: The 55-200 is a great lens, (84-305mm FF equiv.). You said that Canon 100-400 was perfect. The 55-200 goes only to 2/3 of max length. Maybe you'll be better server with the 100-400 (152-610mm FF equiv). I suggest you to check your photos and see how often you shot beyond 300mm to help your decision.

Q: 2. will this lens mount on a Fuji E-X2?

A: Yes, lens and camera both conform to Fuji's X-mount.

Q: 3. Hi. Can someone tell me the maximum aperture at the halfway point (about 127mm I think)? Thanks.

A: Max aperture at 127mm is f/4.

Q: 4. what is the best filter for protection of the 55-200 lens?

A: I use a UV filter on all my lenses, mainly for protection.

Q: 5. Is this lense good for video? I do wedding videography and am looking for a lense that will zoom in more than the current one have that came with the camera originally.

A: Yes it is good for video but the 50-140mm would be better for professional use such as weddings. Please take a look at the following link: https://bhpho.to/3ATKlaU

Q: 6. Does this lens come with the latest version of firmware ?

A: My lens did not have the latest firmware, but I suppose that will depend on the date of manufacture for the lens that you receive and when the latest firmware update was made. Therefore, it is probably irrelevant to ask the question.Nevertheless, the latest firmware is available for download at Fujifilm's website and the update is super simple. The instruction manual does a poor job explaining the process, but there are you tube videos about 2 minutes long that will show you exactly how to do it. BTW - I love the camera and the lens!

Q: 7. Will you guys prefer this lens for wild life photography?

A: depends on which kind of wildlife and where and how far. It's long enough for birds that are nearby, and for larger animals at the zoo, but probably not for a trip to Africa. The good thing about it is that it's very light and portable so easy for travel and backpacking and therefore better than not having anything on the long end at all. But for serious wildlife you should look at the 100-400 zoom which is razor sharp, focuses very quickly, has amazing OIS (easy to handhold at 1/15 at 400mm), and for what it, very reasonably priced. Not a big and heavy as you'd think either.

Q: 8. Can I use this lens for macro photography?

A: Yes, although it is not a true macro lens but will give you close photos when used at the long end of the lens.

Q: 9. Does click stop aperture ring mean that the aperture is controlled on the lens itself?

A: Yes. Aperture can be controlled from the lens or by the camera. There is a switch on the lens for the setting. One thing to keep in mind is that there is no aperture demarcation on the lens itself. Those occur on screen or viewfinder.

Q: 10. Is the electronic noise common on this lens when focusing?

A: I use this lens on a X-E2; I'm not aware of any electronic noise when focusing

[62 mm] This lens complements my travel arsenal beautifully. Wished I had bought before my recent trip.

[Bayonet] Like many here, I found this lens to be one of the two choices: 55-200 f/3.5-4.8 or 50-140 f/2.8. Due to life circumstances and family responsibilities, I opted for the more affordable 55-200. It's a little less than half the price and is a 300mm equivalent: on paper, more lens for less money. So what's the catch? This lens simply doesn't have the fit and finish of 50-140; it doesn't have as fast an aperture; it doesn't have a fixed, maximum aperture. The zoom extends out of barrel and is a fairly ungainly design. It has a metal barrel, but portions of the lens are plastic. On the plus side, which for this lens is considerable, it is very sharptack sharp. It is very small and lightweight. And the lens has an impressive optical image stabilizer. It's a pleasure to shoot with. The AF is not as fast as it on some lenses, but it is fast enough. And although it is not as fast as the 50-140, it is faster than competing lenses of similar range from other manufacturers. Having owned a Canon 75-300, I can say with certainty that this lens is significantly sharper. I planned to return this lens if I didn't like it in favor of its more expensive cousin, but I'm so impressed with its size, weight, and image quality, that I decided to keep it. If you need the convenience of a zoom, if you'd like the reach of a 300mm lens, if most of your shooting is outdoors in the daylight, and if you like scary sharp pictures, then I would recommend this lens without hesitation.

[Bayonet] I use this lens with the Fuji X-T1 and the X-Pro 2. It is easier, crisper and faster than any other comparable zooms I have used. Amazing image quality, well built and a great buy.

[62 mm] This is an incredibly sharp lens considering price. the build quality is good. In general Fuji XF lens are very well constructed with excellent quality. The quality of the lenses is good enough that I would not consider the very heavy Fuji XF 50 to 140 f .2.8 lens. I switched from a Canon DSLR system to reduce the weight of the gear I lug round in the back country.

[62 mm] I see little with this lens that could be considered a compromise. Focusses fast and very sharp, even fully extended at 200 mm. Firm zoom ring, it will not shift once set. Construction is outstanding. To my surprise, its weight and length do not overwhelm my Fuji XE2.

[Bayonet] I am slowly building an X mount system around the Fuji XE-1 and plan to move up to the XT-1. Results so far with the 55-200 mm lens exceeds my expectations. Not only is it sharp throughout its focal range, but the quality of build is impressive. I use the lens mostly for candid street photography where I don't want my subjects to be aware of my presence. But I also have been using it with excellent results for landscape and wildlife photos, as it has the equivalency of 305 mm. My only complaint is with the stubborn lens cap which I've replaced with a third party item, and with the lens hood which is difficult to quickly put on and take off.

[62 mm] Before making this purchase, I was considering the more expensive Fujifilm's XF 50-140mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR Lens. I read all of the reviews and decided that due to the weight of the lens, a better choice for me would be the far less expensive XF 55-200mm f/3.5-4.8 R LM OIS. The lens is fantastic, images are tack sharp and the weight of the lens and camera is perfect. Very quickly, this versatile lens has become my lens of choice.
