Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What connection Jack does this mic use?

A: The AKG LC81 MD has a MicroDot connector. There are adapters available from AKG and other manufacturers to convert the MicroDot connector to a different type of connector and enable compatibility with a variety of wireless transmitters or to connect the mic to a standard XLR input. For example, the AKG MDA3 SEN2 MicroLite Microphone Adapter Connector for Sennheiser Bodypack Transmitter with 3.5mm Phone Jack (B&H # AKMDA3) or Deity Microphones DA35 Microdot to Locking 3.5mm Adapter - Black (B&H # DEDA35) will both convert the MicroDot connector to a 3.5mm TRS locking connector for use with Sennheiser transmitters. You can find the AKG MicroDot adapters listed on the item page for the mic -- click on the tab for "Accessories" above the product description, then click on the tab for "Adapters." You can also use the website search bar to find the adapters or contact us by phone or through live chat on the website if you would like further assistance.

Q: 2. Would this be a good lapel mic for sit down interview or is it designed primarily for stage use on actors?

A: The AKG LC81 MD Reference Lightweight Cardioid Lavalier Microphone could be used for an interview scenario as well as stage use. Its cardioid pickup pattern makes it more directional to help focus on the voice and eliminate external noise, as well as possibly reducing the possibility of feedback when it is amplified.

Q: 3. What kind of receiver is needed for this wireless mic?

A: Actually this is a wired mic

Q: 4. I'm getting a lot of handling noise with this mic. Does anyone have a suggestion/best practices on how to minimize, or eliminate, the handling noise? I almost can't use the audio recorded because of this issue.

A: Swap out the XLR cable. The mic shouldn't be generating much handling noise in normal use. I'm on my second one now after taking my original one around the world doing interviews for six years, and finally retired it. The most likely cause is a bad connection inside the XLR connector on the mic end of the cable, since that's where most of the stress is placed in routine use.

Q: 5. what is the difference with the e 835 except the switch?

A: The only difference between the e835 and e835S is the on/off switch. Other than the switch, the mics are identical.

Q: 6. Is this one mic capsule and one pre or a stereo set of 2 capsules and 2 pres ?

A: Based on the manual and information I am finding on this, this is only 1 mic capsule. It is timbrally identical with the other 8000-series microphones for optimum aural compatibility, so that you can capture a group of instruments in the same way that you would use a stereo pair of mics.

Q: 7. Is the MD-46 or the Electro-voice RE50 better in windy conditions? Which handles wind gusts better without a fur wind screen?

A: Neither one is going to handle wind well. Get a fur wind screen! Probably the MD46 is better, but that's not saying much under windy conditions.

Q: 8. Hi, I'm interested in buying one of these for interviews so I'll be using it outdoors mostly. Will I need a windshield and if so, what would be the best one to get?

A: For outdoor use a windscreen/windshield would be recommended. For very light wind situations a foam windscreen would suffice The Auray WHF-158 is a common choice. B&H # AUWHF158. For medium to high wind scenarios a more robust windshield would be recommended for quality results such as the K-Tek windsock B&H # KTKR5070.

Q: 9. Sennheiser MD-46, where is the serial number located and how do I get to it?

A: I couldn't find teh serial number. This mic really disappointed me. It was very expensive and produces an annoying noise. I thought was my mixer, but I tried oder mic and the noise have disappeared.

Q: 10. does this microphone require phantom power?

A: No, it is a dynamic mic

[Cardioid] I purchased two of these to use for both acoustic guitar recording and also for drum overheads. They are beautifully constructed as I have come to expect from Sennheiser products. A very useful feature are the small adjustment controls which allow you to add a pad to reduce very loud sources and select from three bass roll-off profiles allowing you to tailor the microphone to match its intended use. I have so far only used them for acoustic guitar recording and was very happy with the super clear and entirely natural sound reproduction. They are nice and compact as well. One small gripe is the average quality pouch that comes with them, but most people will probably use a road case anyway. Thanks again B&H ...

[Cardioid] We use this mic for television commercial production voice overs. Its solid with terrific response and great sound! I'm not a huge fan of the blade mount but for the price and quality; I'd take it anyday over more expensive alternatives.
