Normal-length prime is designed for use with full-frame Canon RF-mount mirrorless digital cameras.

Bright f/1.8 maximum aperture suits working in difficult lighting conditions and also offers increased control over depth of field.

One precision-molded (PMo) aspherical element suppresses spherical aberrations and distortion for high sharpness and accurate subject rendering.

Super Spectra coating has been applied to individual elements to minimize ghosting and flare for greater contrast and color neutrality when working in strong lighting conditions.

STM stepping motor offers fast, quiet, smooth, and accurate autofocus performance that is ideal for video recording as well as still shooting.

Configurable Control Ring can be used to adjust a variety of exposure settings, including aperture, ISO, and exposure compensation.

Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How about the Warranty?

A: Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM Lens (Canon RF) BH #CA5018RF includes 1 year warranty with Canon USA.

Q: 2. Can I still use the lens cap with a 43mm filter attached to this lens?

A: That would depend on the filter. If the filter you own or plan to use has 43mm front filter threads on the front of the filter ring, then yes, the Canon E-43 43mm Lens Cap included with the purchase of the Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM Lens would fit on the front of your filter.

Q: 3. The only time my Canon RF 35mm f/1.8 IS Macro STM Lens is quiet is when my Canon RP is turned off, it sounds like maybe the IS is always spinning, shouldn't my lens be quiet when I am not taking pictures with it?

A: The IS always running, that is normal.

Q: 4. I knew focusing on this lens would be noisy but my copy continually hunts focus. Is this normal or should I try another copy?

A: Doing a controlled focus test is the best way to determine what might be causing the lens to hunt for focus.

Q: 5. Is the lens metal or plastic?

A: The body of the lens is a plastic enclosure.

Q: 6. What size is the end of the lens? (basically, what size ND filter will I need?)

A: This lens takes 43mm filters.

Q: 7. Will this work with the M50?

A: This lens will not mount onto the Canon M50 and currently there is no adapter for it to mount onto the Canon M50.

Q: 8. What lens hood will fit this lens?

A: Canon has a specific lens hood for it called the ES-65B (https://bhpho.to/3kblKpV) but you could also use a generic lens hood that screws into the filter threads as well.

Q: 9. How do you manually focus this lens?

A: To manually focus when using the Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM Lens, you may set the Focus Mode in your camera to Manual Focus, then set the [CONTROL/FOCUS] switch built onto the lens to [FOCUS]. You may then rotate the control ring built onto the lens to adjust your focus. You can also press the [MAGNIFY] button (button of a magnifying glass) on the back of the camera to increase the magnification on the camera's LCD screen to assist your viewing during manual focus. If the camera is set to Autofocus and the [CONTROL/FOCUS] switch is set to [FOCUS], you should also have full-time manual focus override, allowing you to focus manually while the camera is still set to autofocus mode.

Q: 10. Any news on when it is approximately expected on b&h? Also the 85mm f2?

A: Unfortunately, we currently do not have a set ETA from the manufacturer on either product.

[Full-Frame] I bought this Canon 50mm at 50% off due to a special offer by Canon through B&H. It was a can't pass up opportunity! I Paid $100 for a new lens that just about everyone who uses it loves and every camera bag needs! After receiving it, I took it outside to check it out on my R10 and it fully met my expectations! With the crop sensor essentially making my 50mm lens actually an 85mm lens, I was amazed by both the sharpness and the background blur (bokeh) it produced. I will be soon using it more for outdoor shooting now that sun is shining in Southern California! But this RF 50mm lens was one that I knew I MUST HAVE with my kit when I purchased my R10 camera a couple of months ago. So far, it's doing everything and more than I hoped for!

[7, Rounded] I have the adapter for the R5 so I could use my other canon lenses. For my first RF lens I decided on the Canon RF 50mm. I am not disappointed. lens is light, fast and a joy. Very sharp when I crop my images to interest area. Was happily surprised. I do a lot of photos around my garden and this is a nice addition. Can't wait to try with my astrophotography when the clouds leave. It doesn't disappoint

[0.655 lb] This lens works great on the Canon R50. It behaves more like an 80mm lens on the 1.6x crop, which can be a bit tight for many situations, but I love its image quality and what it can do with depth of field. The autofocus is quiet and the control ring is a great feature, especially when set to change ISO or white balance. The lens required a light amount of cleaning after buying, but I am satisfied with its overall quality and performance so far, especially for the price. I can’t speak for its use as a full-frame lens, but on a crop sensor it becomes a fantastic lens for portraits, product photography, and other close-up shots.

[7, Rounded] Must have in any bag. Easiest and least expensive way to get into a native RF mount lens. Solid results on my R7. Seems sharper then my old EF mount nifty fifty!

[43 mm (Front)] Switching to this from the RF 24-240 felt like I was only holding the camera body, very light weight. Also very capable indoors with only artificial lighting, which I sorely needed-- no fun having to use a flash all the time. Easy choice for an excellent prime.

[46°] The nifty 50 is now super light, super small, insanely sharp and twice the price as the EF model. Still its a no brainer for the price.

[0.25x] Purchased this along with the 24/105mm that came with the R6 Mark II. This is a good all around lens for shooting street photos or folks inside your house. No fuss - works seamlessly with my camera. Clear and crisp photos.

[Full-Frame] I was excited to see this lens on sale as it is already a great value lens. Great for standard portraits and video with its light weight, large aperture, and quiet focusing.

[43 mm (Front)] I bought this lens as I had just gotten a new mirrorless camera. I had the 50mm EF lens and this RF works just as well. It is smaller but has the same capabilities. Would recommend to anyone who has an RF mount camera and is on a budget.
