Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I purchased 2 boxes of Canson's Platine Fibre Rag paper from B&H back in December. I now have a Canon imageprograf 300 printer. I've downloaded the icc profile from Canson's site. The accompanying pdf recommends that in PS, the media paper type should be set at "Matte Paper". However, the label on the box describes the paper as "Ultra Smooth Glossy".  Would anyone have a suggestion as to the correct media type for this paper?

A: You can download the AM1X profile from the Carson website and then it will be available as a custom paper for you to select. https://www.canson-infinity.com/en/icc-profiles?fp=485&lc=en

Q: 2. Does the grain run long or short?

A: I highly doubt it would make any difference. This is an extremely high resolution fine grain semi gloss paper and is about the best there is.Canson don't state any specification on their website but do include images of all their surface finishes and they all look pretty random to me.Sheet media is always loaded in portrait with the long side facing adjacent to the motion of the print head.

Q: 3. Can someone who has printed extensively on Gold Fibre Silk describe any differences between that and this new Gold Fibre Gloss paper other than the heavier weight? Is paper base around the same level of white? Is the surface any different looking/feeling?

A: Both papers are about the same level of white. The only difference is the thickness.

Q: 4. is this compatible with the canon pima pro 100?

A: Yes, it is compatible and it is best to use the printer specific ICC profiles for the Canson Infinity Platine Fibre Rag Paper and the Canon PIXMA PRO-100 Wireless Professional Inkjet Photo Printer when printing. This can be found with the drop down filters at the link here: https://www.canson-infinity.com/en/icc-profiles?fp=485

Q: 5. How do I eliminate bronzing on Canon pro-100?

A: Best is to use the printer specific ICC profiles for the Canson Infinity Platine Fibre Rag Paper and the Canon PIXMA PRO-100 Wireless Professional Inkjet Photo Printer when printing. This can be found with the drop down filters at the link here: https://www.canson-infinity.com/en/icc-profiles?fp=485

Q: 6. How does this paper compare to silver gelatin B&W paper or color RA-4 paper ? I wanted to print my film negatives at home, but I don't have the skills, neither space to have a darkroom (color printing would be almost impossible for me),so is this paper good for making inkjet prints from negatives ?

A: It would be close match to silver gelatin B&W paper.

Q: 7. It's a little hard to tell the printable side on this paper, how would I know the printable side?...thanks

A: The Ilford Galerie Smooth Pearl should have a slight reflective quality on the printable side. You can also moisten your finger and touch a corner. The printable side will be slightly sticky while the back will not stick to your finger at all.

Q: 8. How do i get the specific profiles?

A: You can find paper profiles on Ilford's website. Please see the following link:http://www.ilford.com/en/support/printer-profiles/You will need to register on Ilford's website but it is free.

Q: 9. Is this new paper the replacement of the now discontinued smooth super high gloss ? Does it have same characteristics or is it entirely new ?

A: Glossy inkjet is a type of paper that shines by nature. When light falls on such paper it is either reflected parallelly or at an angle. With metallic paper a sheet of mylar is kept between the printing paper and the emulsion. So there's no real comparison. Metallic is far superior for a 3D look. That being said Gloss doesn't change the image effect as does metallic and the colors can be a bit more accurate.

Q: 10. Back before Christmas I purchased two boxes of Canson Infinity Platine Fibre Rag paper (8.5x11 and 13x19) from B&H. I now have a new Canon imageProGraf 300 printer. I've downloaded the ICC profile for this paper, but Canson does not indicate the "Media Type" setting that I should use in PS or LR. Could anyone advise me what media setting I should use?

A: You can probably use Luster or Exhibition Fiber which is also in the semi gloss family. Please note: being that the TM300 is only a 4 color printer not really for photos or fine art, you can't expect to get the exact color on prints anyway. You'll need a printer like the Pro 4100.

[0.645 lb] Been using this paper since they stopped making the Gold Fibre Silk. Ilford is the only brand I use for my printing purposes and it has been phenomenal for either color or B&W prints. Not the cheapest but my trusted go to paper.

[Glossy] Been using Epson paper for many, many years, but I decided to give Ilford a try with so many positive reviews that I read. When used with my Epson HD XP-15000 printer, the results are amazing. Highly recommended this paper.

[Single] Looks like a darkroom fiber print. Nice thickness, and slightly warmer tone. A favorite of mine.

[98%] I've tried so many other papers, but keep coming back for this. I've worked with Epson and Canon Printers. This paper has the weight, finish even the SMELL of Kodak Kodabromide F Doubleweight (Ilford had a version also) darkroom paper.

I see they changed the box, and offer it it a gloss finish. I hope the box is all that's changed, and it comes into stock again soon.

[0.645 lb] Like others, I tried this as a replacement to the Gold Fiber Gloss and it has become my favorite paper for both B&W as well as color prints. The color and tonality are very pleasing. Nice thickness and it’s acid free which is great for archival purposes. Tried other papers and always come back to Ilford.

[270 gsm] This is a very nice paper that is a pleasure to use with the Epson P9570. As I mentioned in the headline, blacks print wonderfully on this paper using the black enhance overcoat. The sharpness is remarkable as well. There is a slight texture to the surface which is ok... I might take a half star off the rating if I could.

[50x Sheet Paper] I have used Galerie photographic paper for over 40 years printing and processing in the darkroom. Recently I have been photographically changing over to digital. I have used many inkjet printing paper for many sources such as Canon, Finestra and others. Since I have had so much experience with Ilford, and Galerie, over the years I decided to give Galerie inkjet paper a try. I was looking for a paper with a slightly warm tone and Galerie is perfect. Images are striking with almost a three-dimensional effect. I really like it!

[Fiber] I like the weight and stiffness of this paper. I've been able to get good results with both color and b/w prints. Its finish is more or less a luster with a very subtle texture. Printer profile from the Ilford website works well (using an epson p800).

[0.645 lb] After Fibre Gold Silk was no longer available I decided to try the gloss. This paper has beautiful black and white tones and a very nice surface. Just may become my favorite paper.
