Media Composer still wins over the newer options. The biggest plus in media composer is that the workflow makes you do a more professional job as other software where one is seduced into sloppy dragging and dropping and quick fixes. A benefit is also that for each step one wants to take there are many many options on how to get there, resulting in a very individual/artistic way of solving problems. Also the media composer and it file storage system is the most stable when compared.

Avid is still the most stable NLE because of its media management without crashing.

This seem to work great so far. I don't have a lot on my computer, but does seem to work seamlessly for my backup needs.

I purchased Cyber Protect Home Office Essential Edition for my new i9 powered desktop computer. Acronis supports the standard backup types: Full, Incremental, Differential and on-demand (and explains the differences). You can schedule your backups, automatically delete old copies and, of course, restore your files. The interface is fairly straight-forward and easy to use. Backups to my 1 TB USB 3.2X2 attached NVME SSD are surprisingly quick and is my recommended approach. As inexpensive as HDDs are these days, backups to HDDs are slow and heavy to travel with. As with other software, you will have the 'option' to try or buy other packages Acronis sells and, of course, it is an annual subscription. For desktop and laptop computers, this is a very cost-effective way to go. Offsite backups are always preferable, but if you can't afford iDRIVE or similar cloud backup services and/or travel a lot, Acronis is a reasonably priced solution.

TL;DR if you're worrying that this won't work because Avid says you can't upgrade, don't.


I bought this as a leap of faith, and that leap paid off.

If you're reading this review, you're already a Sibelius user of some sort, so I won't get into how awesome Sibelius itself is. I want to concentrate on the upgrade aspect because that's what gave me pause.


I have a paid version of the regular Sibelius and was looking for a way to upgrade to Ultimate because I find the regular version too limiting. I contacted Avid directly, and they told me there was no upgrade path and I would have to start from scratch by purchasing a full version of Ultimate or going with their $20/mo plan.


While I was waiting for their response, I looked around and found this listing. I absolutely trust B&H, so I figured that if they were offering an upgrade, it had to be legit. There were eBay listings for the same thing, but those are often sketchy, but B&H is 100% trustworthy.


Anyway, I bought it, got the email with the license key, and was able to activate Ultimate without an issue. I simply put in the new license key along with my existing system ID and license key and it switched it over.


It comes with a year of free updates, and you can purchase 3 years from Avid for the same price ($199) that you would pay for a year under their monthly plan.

I was not familiar with Acronis prior to receiving it with my last computer. But I am sold. It is great protection!!

Appreciated being able to buy multiple licenses that can just be activated as needed.
