The Sachtler aktiv8 Flowtech75 GS Tripod Systemuses Sachtler's truly innovative SpeedLevel technology to provide almost instant mounting and leveling of your camera rig on Sachtler 75mm tripod legs. The clamp and stud SpeedLevel system saves precious time leveling your camera rig by eliminating the need to screw on a tie-down knob. Designed for documentary, news, and corporate productions, the aktiv8 supports rigs weighing up to 26.5 pounds. This 75mm ball fluid head features 15 steps of counterbalance and seven steps of pan and tilt drag adjustment, plus zero settings for both balance and drag.

The SpeedLevel technology replaces the traditional head screw and tie-down design with a strong clamp built into the head bowl and a stud component that clamps onto your tripod bowl or other mounting platform, such as a slider. Simply grasp the large lever on the head and pull it up to release the clamp, then press it down to lock your head in place. Partially lifting the lever allows you to quickly and easily level the head.

When used with a separately available flowtech tripod, the aktiv8 enables you to spread the legs flat, getting as low to the ground as your head can without a tie-down knob getting in the way. You can also now mount your head directly onto a slider using a separately available aktiv system stud that screws onto support systems with a 3/8"-16 threaded stud.

The PrismBubble level system is pressed once to illuminate the bubble level to be illuminated or pressed twice to light up both the bubble level and the drag settings, a boon when working in darker environments. The bubble level also has a built-in prism, enabling you to more easily level the head when the legs are at set at maximum height or an awkward angle.

Mount your camera using the included Sideload Plate S that has both a 1/4-20 camera screw and a locating pin to prevent twisting. With a sliding range of 4.7", this head balances quickly to accommodate variously configured rigs The Sachtler aktiv8 head also features a detachable pan bar that can be mounted onto the rosettes on either the right or left side of the head.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Has anyone used the Aktiv8 for long lens (500mm+) videography? at that focal length can you achieve shake-free pans?

A: The Sachtler aktiv8 flowtech75 MS Tripod System, will easily perform shake free pans with long lenses and heavy systems.

Q: 2. What arri dovetail plate is compatible with the aktiv line?

A: When working with Arri Dovetail plates they should all be universally compatible for mounting on the Sachtler Aktiv heads. Dovetail plates have multiple 1/4"-20 & 3/8"-16 Threads to allow you to attach the Aktiv head plate to the dovetail plate. Also, if you are looking for a replacement plate for the Aktiv8 head it is listed below. Sachtler Sideload Plate S/Ace Tripod QR Plate BH #SAWPDV1

Q: 3. Is the aktiv8 compatible with 120mm Manfrotto base plates (Manfrotto 502AH), or does it use proprietary base plates?

A: It is not compatible with the same quick release plate that the Manfroto 502AH uses. This uses the Sachtler Sideload Plate S/Ace Tripod QR Plate, BH #SAWPDV1.

Q: 4. How does this tripod/head perform in harsher conditions? Sand, salt water, cold temperatures?

A: Sachtler aktiv8 flowtech75 MS Tripod System has been tested and preforms well in all conditions, after contact with salt water, I suggest washing and drying it down.

Q: 5. Would this support a fully rigged FX9 (monitor, transmitter etc.) or will I need the Aktiv 8?

A: The Sony FX9 is 10.58 lb (with Viewfinder, Eyepiece, Grip Remote Control, BP-U35 battery, SELP28135G LENS, an XQD memory card, handle, mic holder). I think the Sachtler aktiv6 could work. But the Sachtler aktiv8 would be more stable and a better choice for this payload.

Q: 6. What is the total closed length of the Sachtler Aktiv8 Tripod System in its most compact form for transport and stowage?

A: The Sachtler Flowtech tripod when closed is 26 inches long. The Sachtler Aktiv8T tripod head is 7 inches so the total length would be about 33 inches.

Q: 7. What are the pros and cons when comparing middle and ground spreaders? Thanks.

A: Mid level spreaders are fast, always clean and can be use on uneven terrain.. However, you cannot get as low as with a ground spreader. You might consider it a tad less stable. Ground spreaders get dirty and are not good on uneven terrain. They must be removed at that time. (No big deal) They are good on flat surfaces particularly floors with delicate finishes. They are a tad more stable. Conclusion: if you need speed and clean, use mid level. If you need maximum stability, and are on smooth floors. go ground.

Q: 8. Do the spreaders come off?

A: Yes, the mid-level spreader of the Sachtler aktiv8 flowtech75 MS Tripod System can be easily removed.

Q: 9. Is AKTIV8 Sachtler appropriate for a PXW-Z750 with 5 pound lens with a 96w battery? Wondering if I need to step up to Aktiv10.

A: The Sachtler aktiv8 will support up to 26lb payload weight. The Camera is 9lbs and the lens is 5lbs. You would still have room for more equipment. I think the Active8 would be fine. But the Aktiv10 would also support up to 26lb payloads however it has a more stable strong 100mm bowl fitting for the head. The Aktiv8 head would be amaller at 75mm.

Q: 10. Debating between this and the 10 w/Flowtech 100 system for Sony FX9. I've only ever used 100mm balls, does anyone who has this wish they had the 100mm system instead?

A: The 75mm bowl drop is a great combo for your cam and lens combo. Also be mindful that you can always use a bowl adapter when needed. Please review what bowl drops we have to offer. https://bhpho.to/3PsSdr6

[Yes] My first Sachtler experience with the flowtech75 tripod system exceeded expectations. It's lightweight, easy to use, and the side slider handles make adjustments a breeze. The magnets at the base keep the legs secure during transport, and the carbon fiber finish adds a nice touch. I appreciate that the center spreader can be easily removed, and easily reattached. Laying the tripod flat for those low angle shots is a breeze.

The aktiv8 head is equally impressive. It effortlessly balances my heavy camera rigs - works great with my fully built-out URSA. The pan/tilt adjustments are intuitive, and the locking mechanism are right where they should be. The leveling feature works well, though a firm grip is needed when loosening the handle. The light on the leveling bubble is a helpful addition in low-light conditions.

Overall, this system is top-notch and highly recommended for videographers seeking thoughtful features, reliability and ease of use.

[Yes] There is finally more competition in the space, but this one is still one of the best. This is a go anywhere do pretty much everything set of sticks, easy to setup, fast to adjust, very durable.

[Yes] It was delivered safely. And as the best product, it has excellent functions in every way.

[Fluid Head] This is the tripod that I'll take any day over everything else, especially in run and gun, fast-moving shooting like BTS, doc, etc. Reliable and fast and smooth, these tripod/heads outshine competitors like the sun to the moon. Though pricey, they're an investment well worth it, almost as important as your lens investments.

[Yes] Some reviewers have come from large and expensive Sachtler gear to this, whereas this is a huge step up for me having owned only Gitzo, Manfrotto, and other similar price point brands prior to this.

Wow, this is so quick and easy to set height and level on both the FlowTech 75 legs and the aktiv8 head!

I will be using this for wildlife videos and with long lenses (i.e. 600mm, 800mm, and possibly even 1200mm), and with no spreader.

The mid-spreader might have made more sense for me to have, but for some reason this was quite a bit less expensive than that model.

[Fluid Head] This combo is awesome. I wasn't sure but I bit the bullet and bought it and after a couple days of use I think it's worth every penny. The legs need no further review as I think the consensus is that they are great. The head is really easy to work with and provides a lot of flexibility. Only gripe is the I usually have to lock off the tilt when balancing the head, but that is a minor complaint. I do a lot of setups and often work by myself these days so this is the setup I've been waiting for.

Very light and very easy to handle with

[Yes] Not perfect. handle moves a bit, clumsy tripod, feels a bit like plastik, the head is way better than my old Manfrotto 519, I like Aktiv system a lot but not a big fan of touch and go, little adjustment plus it is much faster and easier to mount a sideload - you can put a stop or mark the offset to make it as fast as the adjustment goes. Plus you will scratch this very fast its metal into metal and sharp unlike manfrotto type mounts

[Yes] It's pricey.... but everything I need for fast-moving doc work.

[Yes] Changing tripod levels is pretty fast, my setup is about 15 pounds and the head holds that payload well. Good balance of lightweight and strength
