Ultra-wide prime is designed for full-frame Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras but can also be used with APS-C models where it provides a 21mm equivalent focal length.

Two aspherical elements and one ultra-high refractive index glass element help to control distortion and spherical aberrations for improved sharpness and accurate rendering.

Three extra-low dispersion elements are used to reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations in order to produce high clarity and color accuracy.

Impressively wide 114° angle of view pairs with a rectilinear design, which renders subjects with minimal distortion in order to suit landscape and architectural applications.

Manual focusing design and a minimum focusing distance of 10.6" suits working with close-up subjects.

Built-in petal-shaped lens hood helps to prevent stray light from causing lens flare and also offers some physical protection to the lens's front element.

Front of the lens is threaded to accept optional 52mm filters. The lens is also compatible with an optional, dedicated 100mm filter holder.

Five-blade diaphragm produces distinct 10-point sun stars and specular highlights when stopped-down and photographing point light sources.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Other than the Full Frame nature, are there any significant image quality or build quality differences between this and the older 2.8 version that comes in native Fuji mount?

A: This lens is currently the world's widest rectilinear lens. It being a Full Frame lens means it does not suffer the crop of the other lens, and consequently has a much wider field of view. It has a 135° angle of view. This is a significant optical achievement, and really separates it from the older lens.

Q: 2. Is the Laowa Argus 35mm f/0.95 FF hood removable?

A: Yes, the lens hood included with the Venus Optics Laowa Argus 35mm f/0.95 FF Lens for Sony E-Mount is removable.

Q: 3. given that the lens hood is built in, would a 55mm filter with a 52-55 step ring fit?

A: It wouldn't fit due to the lens hood unfortunately.

Q: 4. is the aperture ring clickable, can the aperture be adjusted by clicking the markings on the aperture ring?

A: With the Venus Optics Laowa 14mm f/4 FF RL Lens there is a slight click at each stop on the lens.

Q: 5. Is this lens compatible with Leica CL (APS-C format)?

A: Yes it is compatible!

Q: 6. Will this lens accept a NISI V6 100mm filter holder?

A: It won't work because the hood is not removable so the hood will not allow the filter holder to fit on the adapter ring.

Q: 7. Which size of Tilta Seamless Focus Gear will fit the focus ring?

A: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1562190-REG/tilta_ta_fgr_5355_seamless_focus_gear_ring.html Please take a look at the link I have provided. The following Tilta Seamless Focus Gear will fit this lens.

Q: 8. Is the hood removable?

A: The hood of this lens is not removable.

Q: 9. I saw a review of a pre-production version of this lens. On that one the flange was milled for 6-bit coding. Is that the case with this one?

A: According to Venus Labs, they state that the Venus Optics Laowa 9mm f/5.6 FF RL Lens for Leica M is 6-bit coded for metadata usage on Leica camera. They also state that they coded the lens based on the Leica system. There is no customized Laowa coding. As a result, you should memorize the amended name of the lens designation.

Q: 10. Has anyone use Laowa 14mm F/4 for InfraRed photography? Does it has a hotspot that makes it unusable?

A: To our knowledge, the Laowa 14mm f/4 FF RL Lens for Nikon Z has not been tested with an infrared-converted Nikon Z mount camera.

[5] Perfect lens, wide and free of spherical distortion.

[52 mm (Front)] Requires very precise positioning of camera, subject and lighting to get the best out of it.

[Full-Frame] Vignetting, corner softness wide open, and some distortion are noticeable. But when you factor in the size and weight of this thing, it's an engineering marvel that such a lens is possible, and at such an affordable price. I own the Samyang 10mm f/3.5 XP and that lens has a very annoying green cast in the corners, and I am delighted that this lens suffer way less, and much easier to fix in Lightroom or CameraRAW. However, stopping down the lens doesn't improve vignetting, unlike the Samyang.
Strangely, the mid-frame some how isn't as sharp as the extreme corners when you focus using the center. I suspect that the plane of focus isn't a plane not a sphere. It could be mustached, but further investigation is required.
This lens works well with the Techart LM-EA9, and can get you very close to your subject as long as you are not blocking all the light. It's a shame that the TTartisan adapter would not correctly read the code of this lens as the Leica 6-bit code cannot represent9mm f/5.6 at all. Let's see what happens in the future.
Despite its many non-idealities, I am still inclined to give it a 5/5 for being a pioneer in ultra wide angle non-fisheye.

[5] Not for everyone, as they say, but surprisingly good for the price for what it is. If you want it for super thin depth of field and creamy smooth bokeh you may be happy. Stopped down, sharpness is good, especially in the center. Works very well for urban scenes at night as well and keeps the ISO down. At the current price of $650 I'm very pleased, but at list of $999 maybe less so. If you want an all around 35mm there are better choices, mostly slower by a stop or more, but then with AF or at greater expense. Beautifully built as well.

[Full-Frame] The r5 makes manual focus so incredibly easy, I can confidently capture bride groom portraits with ease and know they're in focus. The bokeh has a vintage reminiscence to it which I absolutely love

[f/4] If you are not looking for perfection at this price, but a special way of rendering the world, you have a winner with this lens.
I take any chance to slow down and to become more creative.

[52 mm (Front)] Use it for most of my work, great wide angle. Great light controls on the lens, easy to work with.

[f/4] Get Those WAPs ( wide angle photos ) This is my first laowa Lens and I am not Disappointed. From all of the testing I've Done all the edges are straight and legit no Distortion on this bad boy. at f/4 there is slight vignetting but disappears at f/5.6, IF you're like me and using this for Real Estate this is the lens for you on Photos, f/4 for Video is a little low for Aperture in Video but if you're using a Full Frame System you should be able to push your ISO a bit more in low light situations but maybe not the best lens for Small Homes.
