Designed for up to 8K cine-style image capture and covering up to full-frame size sensors, the black Leica L-mount IRIX 11mm T4.3 Cine Lens L-Mount Blackfrom IRIX incorporates multiple internal and external design features. This 11mm lens will produce a classic wide-angle look or up to a 123° viewing angle in the 2.39:1 widescreen format, depending on your camera's sensor. External features include a 95mm front diameter, 0.8 MOD gears, luminous focus marks in feet, and a detachable 1/4"-20 support foot.

Internally, nine blades produce smooth, rounded bokeh for natural-looking out-of-focus highlights. To help eliminate aberrations and distortion, the IRIX 11mm T4.3 Cine Lens is constructed with 16 optical elements in 10 groups, including four HRI (high refractive index) and two ED (extra-low dispersion) elements. A Multi-Start Thread focusing mechanism delivers quiet, precise focusing even in wet or humid conditions or in extreme temperatures. This lens has 180° of focus, 75° of iris rotation, and an 86mm front filter thread, and it includes front and rear caps. Four seals protect against inclement weather and dust.

Q: 7. Is this compatible with any clamp on matte boxes or does the front piece protrude too much?

A: The IRIX 11mm T4.3 Cine Lens (Canon EF, Meters) doesn't have filter threads so there wouldn't be a way to get the adapters of the clamp on matte boxes on to the lens.

Q: 8. Can anyone tell me how to read/use the hyperfocal scale on this lens? I know what hyperfocal focus is and on most other lenses I know how to use it, but the scale on this lens is truly perplexing to me - specifically, why are there multiple aperture values on both the left and right sides of the centre mark? And there's also another hyperfocal marker above the distances as you approach the infinity mark. So far I've only been able to test it visually by taking the same photo at different focus values and comparing them on my computer to see which are the most in-focus. This is by no means a very technical approach to achieving the proper focus, so I'm very interested in learning how to properly use the hyperfocal scale on this lens. Thanks in advance for any information anyone can provide!

A: The aperture scales on the left and right of the focus mark indicate the approximate distances from the focal plane of the camera within which the image will be acceptable sharp at the current focus setting. It's referred to as a depth of field scale. The hyperfocal scale allows you to set your focus to the approximate hyperfocal distance for your current aperture, by aligning the f/number on the scale with the center focus mark. Irix has a good article on their site explaining DoF, hyperfocal distance and how to use both scales.

Q: 9. What mm size UV protective filter fits this Irix 11mm Blackstone Lens?

A: Due the shape of the front element on the IRIX 11mm f/4 Blackstone Lens for Canon EF, it doesn't accept screw in UV protective filters.

Q: 10. Will this work on the BMPCC4K with a Metabones Speedbooster (MFT to EF) ? Will there be vignetting?

A: Both the 0.71 and the 0.64 Metabones Speedbooster, show little to no vignetting.

[Full Frame] I don't really see distortion, maybe need to make more pictures.Use on nikon d750. Noticed that camera got very warm taking pictures at night with exposure about 20 sec at 35 degrees celsius.

[Full Frame] Last few years I was looking for ultra-wide lens to help me in real estate photography. Sometimes the rooms to be shot were so small so I could'n use my 15-30/2.8 and I had to proceed with 16mm fish-eye. And since I've got this Irix 11/4 and made few test shots, I have no regrets. It's perfect for any tiny place and doesn't bend the walls. The lens is sharp at 4. Being swithed to f11, it doesn't need to be focused at all. What really surprised me was an ability to take street photos. Just for fun I brought this lens to a local city event and use it for candid photography. To get a good picture I had to be VERY close to the subject. And what I did find that the people don't get scary when photographer stays within 1 meter. They think the camera was pointed somewhere out. And, what is more important, you don't need to lose time for viewfinder's look and focusing, just point and shoot.

[3.5 lb] Very well constructed. Maintains Rectilinear image despite the great angle of view. Resolution is as advertised, very sharp! Seems to maintain sharpness throughout the field of view, corner to corner. CA is quite low, and any residual can be eliminated in post production.
The only con is that the lens is quite bulky.
Comes with case, and really fancy packaging, and a built - in lens shade.
Canon would do well to provide the above, especially considering their prices!

[T4.3] This is an amazinglens. The built quality is on par with Canon L lenses and Sigma Art lineup. Super wide angle with minimal distortion, the sharpness holds reasonably well all the way to the corners.

[Full Frame] After 3 months of waiting I received the lens and i had tried it for few shots. the lens is tack sharp with little distortions and some CA. This super wide angle has great colors and good contrast the only negative is that I recieved the lens with scratched cap which makes it like a used one.

[Full Frame] Awesome lens for scenery, landscapes, cramped interiors ... really opens things up!
Packaging
was excellent, lens was inside a sturdy metal box with heavy duty foam
inserts, inside a durable cardboard box, inside a padded cardboard box
from B&H.
This lens seems very well built, gives sharp images,
and has features I wish other lens makers would use in their lenses; the
hyper-focal distance scale, click stop infinity detent, and raised
'lever' on focusing ring to name a few.
I would definitely recommend this lens as an inexpensive, lightweight, super-ultra-wide-angle lens !!!

[T4.3] The Irix 11mm lens produces professional level images. I’ve owned 5 similar focal length lenses from both Sigma, Nikon, and Zeiss. This lens is by far the best. If the lens had “Nikon” or “Zeiss” badging, I would expect it to sell for $1200.

Super wide lenses, by their nature, are more difficult to focus because they have extreme depth-of-field. They challenge auto exposure metering because they include an extremely wide field of view. These are not the lens’ fault, they are the way super wide lenses operate. If you are not familiar with such lenses you’ll need to learn how to use them.
