Designed for cine-style image capture and covering up to full-frame size sensors, the Leica L-mount IRIX 150mm T3.0 Macro Cine Lens L-Mount Feetfrom IRIX incorporates multiple internal and external design features. This macro lens allows you to get a 1:1 object-to-image ratio on your sensor with minimal focus breathing. External features include a 95mm front diameter, 0.8 MOD gears, luminous focus marks in feet, and a detachable 1/4"-20 support foot. Internally, 11 blades produce smooth, rounded bokeh, and several seals protect against inclement weather and dust.

To help eliminate aberrations and distortion, the 150mm IRIX is constructed with 12 optical elements in 9 groups, including four HRI (high refractive index) and three ED (extra-low dispersion) elements. This lens has 270° of focus rotation using the standard geared focus ring, while an adaptive focus ring enables compatibility with a variety of focus gears. The iris ring features 75° of iris rotation, and the lens has 86mm front filter threads. The lens includes both front and rear lens caps.

Leica L-lens mount

Covers up to full-frame format sensors

1:1 macro magnification

11-blade iris for smooth, rounded bokeh

Cine-style 0.8 MOD geared focus and aperture rings

HRI and ED elements help reduce or eliminate spherical aberration

Industry-standard 95mm front diameter

The adaptive lens gear rotates in 15° steps around the lens, providing a movable cutout next to the focus gear that allows you to work with wide follow focus drive gears that otherwise would ride against the outside of the lens and inhibit focus control.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will the lens' "adaptive" focus ring work with my Lumix S1's auto-focus or do I need a compatible follow focusing system?

A: The IRIX 150mm T3.0 Telephoto Cine Lens has no electronic communications with a camera body and requires a focus system to be in place for focusing.

Q: 2. Do these no longer communicate EXIF data as with the original Irix lenses?

A: Yes, the lens offer fully manual focus but with electronic iris control and metadata.

Q: 3. What is the weight of this lens?

A: 2.43 lb (1.1kg)

Q: 4. Does this lens have auto exposure (aperture setting)? I understand that it is manual focus. But, I am not clear if you can set the aperture using the regular camera controls.

A: Yes, the aperture is controlled through the camera body.

Q: 5. Is this lens available with imperial markings?

A: We're afraid not. We only have this lens available with markings in meters at this time.

Q: 6. How much lens breathing occurs with this lens?

A: The lens breathing on this product should be almost imperceptible, as it has been designed with the specific "cine" lens characteristics that keep lens breathing to a minimum, if not entirely absent.

Q: 7. So, has this been updated to work on Arri and Sony PL mounts? Reviews here say it won't work on either.

A: There is no difference between the PL mount on an ARRI or SONY camera, so if this is not mounting properly or not at all, there may be a manufacturing issue, but this is not something we have seen before these occurrences referenced here.

Q: 8. Can it be use with the Canon EF 2x extenders to expand the focal range on a Canon C100 Mark ll camera?

A: Unfortunately this lens is not compatible with Canon extenders.

Q: 9. Can one interchange lens mounts on these lenses?

A: At this time, Irix is not made user swapable mounts available.

Q: 10. This lens vs the Sony 90mm OSS macro, what will get a bigger overall image at the minimum focus distance?

A: The IRIX 150mm T3.0 Macro 1:1 Lens will achieve approximately 3.3" by 2.2" at it's closest. The Sony 90mm OSS Macro will achieve approximately 4.4" by 3" at it's closest. Therefore the IRIX 150mm will magnify more.

[Full Frame] For the price, this lens rocks! If it were three times the price it would still rock! There’s plenty of YouTube video reviews of technical specs, but creatively, I found that this lens gave me a cinematic (subjective, I know), shallow depth of field with crisp focus. Definitely need a focus-puller and stability, but even without the latter, you can pull off some interesting shots. This will be a holy grail lens for product filmmakers, but it’s extremely capable of pulling off some narrative shots.

[L-Mount] Excellent for detail shots. It works as a telephoto lens but focus pull is way to fine beyond a couple of feet away from subject to really rack focus, so I would not recommend using this as a telephoto unless you can fix focus. No complaints as a macro lens though.

[L-Mount] In over 40 years of industrial and feature film making, the Irix primes are my favorite series of prime lenses, favored over the big name lenses that cost 4-5x. They are fast, sharp, have very natural-looking out-of-focus highlights, and the sealing is a bonus for those like us, who shoot a lot of exteriors. Hopefully Irix will soon offer something in the 65mm-85mm range so we can relegate our current short telephoto to the B camera lens set.

[86 mm] The IRIX 150mm is an excellent choice for those looking to capture highly detailed, true-to-life close-ups. Its magnification ratio means you can get incredibly close to your subjects, rendering them in life-size on the screen, which is perfect for both professional and creative projects. The T3.0 aperture ensures that you have flexibility with light, working well in both bright outdoor settings and more controlled indoor environments.

This lens is built to last, with a robust, weather-sealed construction that can handle a variety of shooting conditions without breaking a sweat. The focus and aperture adjustments are smooth and precise, which is crucial for making those critical, on-the-fly changes during a shoot.

Image quality is where this lens truly shines, delivering sharp, clear visuals with beautiful background blur that helps your subject stand out. It's equipped with features like geared rings that are compatible with follow-focus systems, making it an excellent fit for professional video production.

While it's a bit heavier and requires manual focus, the quality and versatility it offers make it a worthy addition to your kit. Overall, the IRIX is a solid investment for filmmakers and videographers seeking exceptional detail and build quality in their work.

[3.76 lb] The image shows a close up of a Lego set using the IRIX 150mm lens. In that picture you can see the small rigs in the gray plastic that is not visible by just looking at it.

[150mm] I got this lens for high end table top shoots and am very pleased with the quality and the build of the lens. Something I wold normally expect from significantly more expensive cine-macro lenses. It’s a bargen at that price point. The PL mount is a snug fit on my RED DRAGON and the rounded lens cap is a bit of a fail design since you can’t put the lens on its front the way you normally park lens that you don’t want to roll of your desk. But that’s the only downside of it and it didn’t affect the image waltet in any way.

[150mm] Switching to the IRIX 150mm T3.0 Macro 1:1 Cine Lens from the Canon 100mm macro photo lens significantly enhanced my macro videography capabilities. The added 50mm focal length allows for closer, more detailed shots and a comfortable working distance, ideal for intricate scenes. This lens incorporates cinema-grade features, including a T3.0 aperture for superb performance in various lighting conditions, and precise control over focus and aperture, elevating the cinematic quality of your footage.

The lens's build is both durable and weather-sealed, ready for any shooting environment. Its sharpness is a standout feature, delivering crystal-clear images that showcase the finest details of your subject. This sharpness, alongside the extended focal length and cinema functionality, makes the IRIX 150mm a significant upgrade for filmmakers seeking to advance their macro cinematography. It's a powerful tool that combines creativity, control, and quality, making it an excellent choice for anyone looking to step up their macro video production.

[150mm] I've been shooting with this lens on my RED Helium, but I also use it for stills with my A7III. The focus throw is smooth and long, and there is little breathing between short distances or between long distances (although, as expected, if you pull from a couple inches away to infinity, there is a transition where it breathes heavily). It feels well made and the images are very sharp.
