Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this PL mount lens work with Panasonic L-mount?

A: No it will not.

Q: 2. Will Irix release L, Z, and RF mount lenses in their regular photography line of lenses?

A: We have not heard of any imminent plans for those particular lens mount options.

Q: 3. Is this compatible with the Canon 400D XTi and the 600D T3i? Or is an adapter required?

A: Yes, the IRIX 150mm f/2.8 Macro 1:1 Lens for Canon EF will adapt to both cameras mentioned.

Q: 4. Is this lens available with imperial markings?

A: We're afraid not. We only have this lens available with markings in meters at this time.

Q: 5. So, has this been updated to work on Arri and Sony PL mounts? Reviews here say it won't work on either.

A: There is no difference between the PL mount on an ARRI or SONY camera, so if this is not mounting properly or not at all, there may be a manufacturing issue, but this is not something we have seen before these occurrences referenced here.

Q: 6. Will the lens' "adaptive" focus ring work with my Lumix S1's auto-focus or do I need a compatible follow focusing system?

A: The IRIX 150mm T3.0 Telephoto Cine Lens has no electronic communications with a camera body and requires a focus system to be in place for focusing.

Q: 7. This lens vs the Sony 90mm OSS macro, what will get a bigger overall image at the minimum focus distance?

A: The IRIX 150mm T3.0 Macro 1:1 Lens will achieve approximately 3.3" by 2.2" at it's closest. The Sony 90mm OSS Macro will achieve approximately 4.4" by 3" at it's closest. Therefore the IRIX 150mm will magnify more.

Q: 8. I'm impressed with this lens but how do I get more contrast out of it? and more color? It's rather plain-looking. Filters?

A: The IRIX 150mm T3.0 Macro 1:1 Cine Lens (Canon EF, Feet) is neutral in color and has good contrast generally speaking. You can add color filters to the lens or in post. You can shoot more contrasty lighting or add contrast in post.

Q: 9. What is the weight of this lens?

A: 2.43 lb (1.1kg)

Q: 10. Is this lens suitable for still photography as well as for video?

A: While the IRIX 150mm T3.0 Macro 1:1 Lens is designed for Cinema use it would also be perfect for still photography. Keep in mind it is a manual lens with no autofocus or stabilization.

[Nikon Z] I got this lens for high end table top shoots and am very pleased with the quality and the build of the lens. Something I wold normally expect from significantly more expensive cine-macro lenses. It’s a bargen at that price point. The PL mount is a snug fit on my RED DRAGON and the rounded lens cap is a bit of a fail design since you can’t put the lens on its front the way you normally park lens that you don’t want to roll of your desk. But that’s the only downside of it and it didn’t affect the image waltet in any way.

[Nikon Z] For the price, this lens rocks! If it were three times the price it would still rock! There’s plenty of YouTube video reviews of technical specs, but creatively, I found that this lens gave me a cinematic (subjective, I know), shallow depth of field with crisp focus. Definitely need a focus-puller and stability, but even without the latter, you can pull off some interesting shots. This will be a holy grail lens for product filmmakers, but it’s extremely capable of pulling off some narrative shots.

[86 mm] I purchased the IRIX 15mm, 45mm, and 150mm as a set. The image quality is sharp and excellent, the focus and t-stop rings work smoothly and quietly, and the build quality is first class and aesthetically beautiful. I particularly like the water sealing most other brand lenses in this price range do not have. Focus breathing varies between the lenses but minimally and I'm quite happy with them. As other reviewers have mentioned, the curved lens cap is the only disadvantage, preventing positioning any lens face down on a surface with the lens cap on, but that's a minor issue against the superb overall package these lenses provide.

[3.805 lb] Switching to the IRIX 150mm T3.0 Macro 1:1 Cine Lens from the Canon 100mm macro photo lens significantly enhanced my macro videography capabilities. The added 50mm focal length allows for closer, more detailed shots and a comfortable working distance, ideal for intricate scenes. This lens incorporates cinema-grade features, including a T3.0 aperture for superb performance in various lighting conditions, and precise control over focus and aperture, elevating the cinematic quality of your footage.

The lens's build is both durable and weather-sealed, ready for any shooting environment. Its sharpness is a standout feature, delivering crystal-clear images that showcase the finest details of your subject. This sharpness, alongside the extended focal length and cinema functionality, makes the IRIX 150mm a significant upgrade for filmmakers seeking to advance their macro cinematography. It's a powerful tool that combines creativity, control, and quality, making it an excellent choice for anyone looking to step up their macro video production.

[Full Frame] I use the IRIX 150mm f/2.8 Macro lens on a Nikon D850. The lens is solidly-built, but not very heavy. Since I shoot my macro either on a tripod, a focusing rail or with flash, the lack of image stabilization is never a factor. Additionally, macro is best done with manual focus, so the lack of auto focus is not an issue. The focusing ring is large, smooth and very easy to use at macro/close-up distances. Toward infinity, the range of movement is more limited and it takes some patience to get sharp focus. I have used this lens also for tracked astrophotography with good results, but is best stopped down to f/5 because of some coma at the edges of the full frame. For regular use this lens appears sharpest at f/11, then f/16, then f/4. I have noticed no chromatic aberration. The bokeh is excellent. The tripod collar is handy and works well. So far, I have found little need for the focus lock function and have noticed no evidence of a focus shift with the lens pointed downward when focus stacking. Metering and aperture control in camera works fine. As for the most important aspect, how do the pictures look? The images have been very sharp with good detail, contrast and color all across the frame. I am very satisfied with this lens as well as the excellent and prompt service by B&H. If I were to compare it with another one of my macro lenses I would sat that the images are sharper with this IRIX lens than with my older Nikon 200mm macro lens. This lens is designed for macro as close as 1:1 and it certainly performs as promised.

[86 mm] No f/stop iris adjustments possible with the original Pocket 6K. Iris control works fine with the Pocket 6K Pro.

[3.805 lb] I've been shooting with this lens on my RED Helium, but I also use it for stills with my A7III. The focus throw is smooth and long, and there is little breathing between short distances or between long distances (although, as expected, if you pull from a couple inches away to infinity, there is a transition where it breathes heavily). It feels well made and the images are very sharp.

[Nikon Z] I shoot surgical/medical and thus needed that reach (compared to the Rokinon 100mm macro I was using before) in order to remain non-invasive to a health care professional's space. I also wanted a cine version of a macro so this was perfect and really there is no other option other than another 100mm macro cine lens.
The images coming from my Fuji X-T3 with this lens are fantastic (rigged as shown using an EF to X-mount adapter). Feels like a solid lens. Not a fan of the magnetic hood but I use a matte box so no biggie. Lens cap and mount cover do suck, they feel like they could break from a drop. Focus ring is smooth but the iris ring is much looser in comparison, I wish they had the same tension.

[150mm] The 150mm allows 1:1(or 2:1) with the TC, to be pretty far away from bugs. The Sharpness is terrific. Used with the manual helps in a mirrorless camera, its easy to get a sharp image in manual.
