Pairing an exceptionally wide field of view with the ability to correct for perspective distortion, the Canon EF-mount Laowa 15mm f/4.5 Zero-D Shift Lens Canon EFfrom Laowa 15mm f/4.5 Zero-D Shift Lens Canon EFis an ideal lens for architecture and interior applications. The broad 110° angle of view is complemented by an impressive +/- 11mm shift range to compensate for unwanted converging lines and keystone distortion. This shift control is further complemented by a 360° rotation mechanism applying the movements in various directions for to suit both horizontal and vertical orientation shooting. Additionally, as part of the Zero-D lens series, this 15mm f/4.5 also renders scenes with a high degree of accuracy and very low distortion.

In terms of optics, two aspherical elements and three extra-low dispersion elements are featured, which reduce both spherical and chromatic aberrations for high sharpness and clarity. An anti-reflective coating also helps to control flare and ghosting for heightened contrast and color rendering. The lens uses a manual focus design for working with subjects as close a 7.9" away and has a five-blade diaphragm for producing distinct 10-point sun stars.

Ultra-wide lens is designed for full-frame Canon EF-mount cameras but can also be used with APS-C models where it provides a 24mm equivalent focal length.

As part of the Zero-D series, this lens has a rectilinear design that renders subjects with minimal distortion in order to suit architectural, interior, and landscape applications.

Integrated +/- 11mm of shift adjustment helps to correct perspective distortion and eliminate keystone distortion.

Large 65mm-diameter image circle easily covers full-frame sensors without any vignetting. Additionally, this lens can also be adapted to medium format mirrorless cameras (44 x 33mm sensor), where up to +/- 8mm of shift is available.

The shift control works in conjunction with 360° of rotation for applying the shift in various directions, benefitting switching between vertical and horizontal shooting orientations, and the rotation mechanism has click stops at 15° increments for intuitive handling.

Two aspherical elements limit spherical aberrations and distortion for improved sharpness and accurate rendering.

Three extra-low dispersion elements reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing for increased clarity and color neutrality.

Updated anti-reflective coating suppresses flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy when working in strong lighting conditions.

Manual focusing design and a minimum focusing distance of 7.9" suits working with close-up subjects.

Five-blade diaphragm produces distinct 10-point sun stars and specular highlights when stopped-down and photographing point light sources.

Compatible with optional Shift Lens Support for more balanced mounting and to better enable using the lens for shift-type stitched panorama shooting without parallax error.

Q: 4. the teleconverters do work on the canon 17mm, 24mm tilt shift lenses so are you saying they do not work on the Laowa?

A: Canon only recommends the use of their teleconverters on specific L-series telephoto lenses, and attempting to connect them to a lens for which it is not designed may damage the front element on the teleconverter, the rear element on the lens, or both. We cannot test and cannot confirm if the Canon teleconverter may be used with this lens. If you own a Canon teleconverter, you may try to test it at your own risk, but do note that damage to either item would not be covered by either Canon or Venus Optics.

[f/4.5] I am an architectural and interior photographer. This lens fills a price and quality niche that the big name companies have not addressed. Sure it is a completely mechanical lens, but coming from a view camera background this is not a problem for me. My only minor complaint(s) are...I would like Laowa to publish an unshifted lens profile for this optic and to have aperture markings on the opposite side of the lens, you could see when the lens is rotated 180 degrees. Otherwise a nice addition to my gear and I would not hesitate recommending this lens for professional use.

[f/22] This is a sharp tool for a particular purpose, but once mastered there are many ways to apply it. It is an extreme wide-angle (equivalent to 12mm full-frame) lens with very little edge distortion, and nearly all of the field of view is in focus if you want that. The controls are smooth, precise, easy to reach, and ENTIRELY manual. There aren’t any electronics in the lens, so you must use the camera’s electronics to assess the light coming through the lens.

I used to adore the Canon 17mm T/S lens when I could borrow one, but this lens satisfies that need. It was designed for the GFX, so no vignetting in the corners! I can get into scenes I could not cover before.

[5] I purchased this lens to replace my Sony 12-24 f/4 because that lens was just not quite fast enough for my needs which generally includes a lot of night photography. The lens has acceptable levels of coma, which is really important to me. It is also very easy to use and handle. Lastly, I really appreciate the super close minimum focus distance for grand scenic landscapes where you want to include something very close to to the lens in the foreground (like flowers). All-in-all, this lens is a great choice for Sony full-frame users.

[f/22] I first bought a used copy and ended up returning it as it was really soft even at f11. Purchased a new one and this thing is tack sharp all the way out to the edges even with a 11mm shift. It is quickly becoming one of my favorite lens.

[Manual Focus] I am so impressed with this 15mm shift lens, the optics sharp and the shift and rotation mechanics are smooth.
I already own all four tilt/shift lens by Nikon and wanted something a little wider than my 19mm and I am so pleased with the results from this lens.
For being so wide, I haven't found any issues with noticeable warping or vignettes at the edges. This lens captures such a beautiful wide angle.
What I really like is the shift function, the shift turning knob is a rotating ring around the lens rather than a separate set of knobs on a Nikon tilt/shift. It makes the action of focusing and shifting a much more seamless action.
For the price, this is an incredible lens to add to my kit. I am blown away by the ease of use and above all, I am so happy with the results.

[f/4.5] After I combined this lens with TLT ROKR from Photodiox to fit the Sony A7 series, I got myself a 15mm TS lens in par with the Canon 17mm TS at a much lower cost. The performance is great and the built is solid.

[Full-Frame] Upgraded my kit from Sony Nex-7 and a6500 to the marvelous a7iii.  For UW had been shooting the aps-c format Sony 10-18 f4 and Samyang 12mm f2.  For the a7iii first I tried a Tokina Firin MF.  It was decentered.  Replacement Firin was better, yet corners were unacceptably blurred at all apertures.  Ordered a Zeiss Batis 18, but cancelled as I really wanted faster aperture for auroras.  Received the Laowa shortly before 4th journey to Iceland.  Travelled with three lenses, the Laowa, a Batis 40mm CF, and a Sony 24-105 f4 G.  Could have done the entire trip with just the Laowa.  Images are superb, even wide open and out to edges.  center cropping, when needed, remained sharp.  Manual focus with a mechanical ring is an asset when shooting night skies.  Infinity on my sample came out just shy of mid point of infinity emblem, same as reported in many reviews.  To minimize coma at f/2 its written that focus should be just a smidge short of infinity, which I endeavored to do.  Was prepared to shoot panoramas but with moving clouds, flowing water and waves, and shifting aurora shafts single exposures worked best.  Nevertheless, the Laowa is my first lens with location of entrance pupil is marked on outside of barrel, and when installed on my PocketPano this facilitates adjustment.  So I am delighted with the Laowa, dont mind lack of electronic EXIF data, and believe I had the best (also smallest and lightest) rig of all with whom I traveled.

[f/22] Brings back the days when every shot had to be hand-focused ... many young photographers reject manual lenses out of hand, but I regard autofocus as a frill. The lens itself is great ... very sharp, minimal distortion, and you can add filters, which is unusual for 15mm glass. And compared to virtually every other lens made for the Nikon Z series so far, it's affordable! Highly recommended.
