The Matrox VS4 HD-SDI Capture Card with VS4Recorder Pro Bundleis a PCIe x8 card that allows you to simultaneously stream and capture from up to four independent SDI video sources using optional vMix, Wirecast, or the full version of VS4 Recorder Pro software applications. The VS4 card includes a trial version of the VS4 Recorder Pro software. The optional VS4Recorder is a versatile application ideal for multi-camera productions that provides HD recording of up to four inputs while simultaneously offering a complete multi-viewer experience, and it provides two recording modes: independent and multi-cam. The optional vMix software is a complete live video production software solution that provides live mixing, switching and streaming.

The capture card also works with select Wirecast software, not included, which allows you to switch between input feeds and add effects to produce a live streaming program. The inputs support PAL, NTSC and various flavors of HD video. Each input works independently, and features auto format detection that allows the card to set the correct input format. This means that the card can accept, stream and encode for capture video from four different inputs with four different formats, even mixing SD and HD, at the same time.

The VS4 features ISO recording, which means that while streaming the program live the VS4 can also encode video from each input at up to 300 Mb/s, to available video storage. The VS4 features codecs compatible with editing solutions from Adobe, Avid and Apple, this allows you to go back and re-edit your show after it has already streamed live. Supporting 8 channels of embedded audio per input, the card encodes audio at 24-bit resolution at 48 kHz for clean clear sound. The VS4 is PC compatible, running on the Windows 7 OS.

You can mix and match video formats, stream and capture (to available storage systems) using the VS4 with the Telestream software. The VS4 Matrox supports encoding at up to 300 Mb/s from each input and supports the Matrox MPEG 2 I-Frame codec, DV, DVCPRO, DVCPRO50, and DVCPROHD codecs.

A: Yes, but the capture express encoding engine is fairly cpu intensive plus the preview may lag the machine. It didn't work that well with a 16core/32thread machine.

Q: 5. Does it split the recorded clips into new clips as it records? Or is the recorded clip a full uninterrupted clip?

A: The clips on the SD card are going to be broken up.

Q: 6. What is difference between the free trial version and full version of VS4recorder Pro?

A: With the Free Trial of the VS4 Recorder Pro software, you can only record for 1 minute, where as the full version is not limited to a certain length of recording. This is the only difference.

[1.4 lb] We use this card to stream 1080p 60fps to Youtube, Using wirecast for youtube. Works amazingly well. Wirecast has some Clocking Issues and every 30-60 minutes the Audio levels freakout a bit. The issues is 100% on wirecast. FLME works perfectly and also Media Express and Premiere. 5

[1.4 lb] Pretty satisfied thus far, would definitely recommend as opposed to the decklink duos. Status lights on the rear are a nice touch as well, helps to immediately determine whether or not the system is receiving a signal without having to check anything else. 5

[8GB] Very nice encoder, easy web configuration interface. Crestron module available for control but I had to edit the module to correct command syntax, but once I did that no have full control over both start/stop streaming & recording with full status feedback from the unit. Works great on the bench- time will tell with customer as they start using it. I do notice that 100% white values going into the encoder don't encode out at 100% but slightly less- like a very light gray... Did not find any menu settings inside the unit that could be adjusted to fix this... but probably only noticeable with static graphic content such as a spread sheet or word document. Recording worked well with class 10 sd card, attempted with usb stick but I didn't have a high performance stick around to use- worked OK with the usb stick I used. Setting up with youtube and facebook was easy- seemed to handle both RTMP and RTMPS just fine. I even was able to use the youtube pairing feature without any issues. Overall so far I am please with the device! 5

[23.0 w] We bought ours in 2015 and had a fair number of problems initially but firmware updates sorted it out. Now on firmware 2.1.9.0026 (I assume there are newer versions but this works for us). We've streamed thousands of hours of lectures without issues. I can't recall the last time the box was restarted. 5
