The Tokina 40mm T1.5 Cinema Vista Prime Lens, with a PL mount and focus scales marked in feet, provides an image circle that more than covers full-frame sensors and is designed to provide sharp images, even when up to 8K resolution. This 40mm focal length lens shares the same form factor, lens gear position, focus rotation, and front barrel diameter as the other Tokina Cinema Vista prime lenses. This makes on-set lens changes a fast and efficient operation. It features a maximum T-stop of 1.5, useful when shooting in low-light situations or when you want to capture that exceedingly shallow depth-of-field look.

The 9-bladed iris provides round out-of-focus highlights for a natural-looking bokeh. The lens barrel features approximately 300° of rotation from close focus to infinity, giving you a high degree of precision when pulling focus. The lens is designed to minimize focus breathing, and it features geared manual focus and iris rings. Markings on both sides of the lens barrel make it readable from either side of the camera.

The 40mm T1.5 PL mount prime lens can focus images on a sensor with full 8K resolution and features a 46.7mm image circle, which easily covers standard-sized full-frame sensors.

The use of a 9-blade iris produces a smooth round appearance to out-of-focus specular highlights. The iris also produces a pleasing bokeh, referring to natural-looking, out-of-focus areas of the image. The iris is manual and features smooth movement without click stops for smooth exposure adjustments while recording.

The lens has markings on both sides of the barrel, making it easy to read focus and aperture settings from behind or from either side of the camera.

The lens shares the same front diameter and gear positioning on the focus and iris rings as the other lenses in the series, making lens switching quick and convenient. Additionally, the focus ring features approximately 300º of smooth rotation to help facilitate consistently accurate focusing, especially when pulling focus during a shot.

The lens is designed to minimize variations in the angle of view while focusing, a phenomenon known as focus breathing. This feature is extremely important while pulling focus, especially on static shots where focus breathing is more noticeable.

The lens features threading on the front to accommodate 112mm screw-on filters. This feature allows the camera operator to add filters over the lens without taking up a filter stage in a matte box.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. There is no electronic EF focus and aperture control option, correct? This would work well with RED cameras...

A: That is correct, this is a Cinema Lens that requires you to control the focus and aperture on the lens itself. If you have a RED camera with an EF mount this lens will work great with it.

Q: 2. what happens if I put this on my R5 with the adapter? any vignetting or will it just be wider than 100mm?

A: If the Meike 100mm T2.1 Super35 Cinema Prime Lens (EF Mount) is mounted on the Canon R5 in full frame mode, there will be vignetting as the lens is designed for Super 35 sized sensors. You can place the Canon R5 in crop mode in the menu as seen here: https://bhpho.to/3TkCU85, in order to crop the sensor to only capture the APS-C portion of the sensor to remove any vignetting.

Q: 3. How compatable is this lens with the 5D mark IV for stills?

A: This lens can be used for stills. However it will be completely manual, you will have to manually control the focus and adjust the Iris on the lens. You will not be able to control the lens on your camera.

Q: 4. Has anyone compared the Sigma Cine Primes vs Canon Cine Primes? Would love to hear if the canon is a better choice or the sigma

A: Both Canon and Sigma Prime lenses will offer fantastic images.

Q: 5. Does the 35mm CN-E lens have auto focussing?auto focus?

A: CN-E lenses are manual focus only

Q: 6. Will this fit and work properly on the Sony PXW-FS5 MK2?

A: With the proper EF to E mount adapter, the Meike 100mm T2.1 Super35 Cinema Prime Lens (EF Mount) would work well on the Sony PXW-FS5 XDCAM Super 35 Camera System.

Q: 7. Are canon prime lenses available in focus metric system?

A: Lens markings on this lens are in feet. However, focus markings can be switched to metric labeling if you send the lens to Canon for modification.

Q: 8. What is the difference between this "Vista Cinema Prime" versus the "Vista One" versions of the same lens?

A: Vista prime are involved in a more sophisticated quality control standard Vista Prime lenses will have the front element, and mechanical parts changed to Vista One single-coated elements and premium space grey mechanical parts. The lenses are calibrated to factory specifications and checked for optimal performance.

Q: 9. what is the filter size for screw on nd filters? thanks!

A: Canon's CN-E lenses do not have a filter thread on them. However you can use Schneider's 114mm SSLR to 4.5 Adapter Ring to put ND filters directly on the lens. They even make a kit that comes with the adapter and three ND Filters, B&H # SCCNDK.https://bhpho.to/2yCxRpi

Q: 10. Is the 35mm a full frame measurement of for the super35 sensor?

A: It will work on a super35 or full frame sensor. True 35mm on a full frame. Will look like a 52mm on a super35.

[Imperial] This is my prime go-to lens on my Canon C-300. On the set of my short film, Jupiter's Legacy, my DP and I came back to this lens again and again. Coupled with the C-300's low light capabilities, the 1.5 allowed me to shoot primarily in lovely candlelight and torchlight. We successfully lit one scene with a single 15 watt Christmas Tree bulb. This lens is tack sharp and has great contrast. I love it. The first AC loved working with the smooth focus mechanism.

[112 mm] I had the original set of these cine lenses...then cometed my set with this 35mm. What a fantastic lens. The quality and build is superb. I picked these over the Ziess set...and I'll never look back!

[46.7 mm] Think Canon cinema lenses are hype? Think again. This lens is a game changer. I have the 50mm L series f1.2 and this lens blows it away in sharpness, accuracy of focus and several other areas. Best purchase I've made for a while.

[112 mm] This is the gold standard for 35mm on a Red Komodo

[ARRI PL] One the most-used lenses on a super 35mm sensor, the 35mm CN-E from canon has been long in coming. I think it was worth the wait. This lens ads the mechanics and housing of a true cinema lens, and improves noticeably in terms of contrast, sharpness and chromatic aberration compared it's still-camera-L-series cousin. Contrast is excellent wide open, and corner sharpness is exceptional throughout the range. The small amount of CA is largely limited to the extreme corners on a full frame camera, and is essentially negligible on super35 or other cropped sensors. I only wish the 50mm was this good.

[46.7 mm] We produce travel and tourism footage and had been working with the canon cine 14, 24, 50, 85, and 135 for about a year. Just picked up the 35 and it has become our main workhouse lens. Most of our shots are a couple enjoying a scenic location and this lens sure is a beauty. Highly recommend this lens and the Canon cine primes.

[Full Frame] I needed something longer than my 55 but shorter than my 85 so this is just right for me. Amazing wide open but I recommend a large production monitor to stay on top of the focus, DoF this shallow is gorgeous but you can't take your eye off it for a second.

[T1.5] When I moved over into the Canon Cinema camera line, due to costs, I decided to go with the Rokinon cinema lenses. Initially, I thought they worked great and it was a definite upgrade from my previous setup. However after shooting with these lenses I can't even believe the difference. The color and clarity are unmatched – I even rented other lenses to compare (Zeiss, Xeen) and IMHO these Canon lenses blew them all away. They make skin tones just come to life and are sharp but not overly harsh. Worth every penny!

[ARRI PL] This lens is a beast! Shooting wide open is tack sharp, the size is huge - and night shots are unlike anything Ive ever seen. We shot with it on a C100 Mk II, C300 Mk II, and RED Dragon and when comparing the footage it was hard to tell the difference from the 100 vs 300. This lens will make your camera shine, especially if its a Canon Cinema series. That and on-set our clients have noticed it and are very impressed. This will elevate your productions to another level.
