Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this cage have an arra type base as does the Smallrig for the Z8?

A: No, the 8Sinn Full Camera Cage for Leica SL2 and SL2-S does not come with an Arca-type release plate on the bottom of the cage like the SmallRig Camera Cage for Nikon Z8.

Q: 2. Is it compatible with Peak Designs Travel Tripod?

A: Yes. You will need to remove the safety stop screws from the PD travel tripod's clamp in order for this RRS L-Plate for Leica SL2/SL2-S to sit correctly.

Q: 3. Is it possible to use an adapter for Leica "S" series medium format lenses (e.g., macro 120mm)? Thank you.

A: Yup! You can use this adapter: https://bhpho.to/3q0qOAJ

Q: 4. Does the SL2 have in body sensor cleaning?

A: The SL2 does not have an in-body sensor cleaning mode. It is highly suggested to get some tools to help your sensor stay clean like this. https://bhpho.to/3BRubj6

Q: 5. How will this camera perform for startscape / Milky Way photography? I have an SL2 for landscape work but am considering adding either this or the Sony A7III for astrophotography.

A: This camera would be excellent for shooting a star scape or the Milky Way due to its high sensitivity.

Q: 6. Does this camera made crop when shoot 4k dci at 60 fps?

A: Yes, there is a small crop when shooting 4K DCI at 60fps on the Leica SL2 Mirrorless Camera (BH #LESL2SL).

Q: 7. When using the M-Adapter L from Leica on the SL2-s with M style lenses, does the adapter provide automatic stop down, or are you viewing through the closed down aperture? For example, if it is an F2 lens, and you have the aperture set at F11, will you be viewing through the viewfinder of the SL2-s at F2 or F11? Also, I understand when using the adapter that infinite focus will be less then infinite on the lens. How does focusing of M lenses work out in real life?

A: According to Leica, the camera automatically switches to aperture priority when the adapter is attached. As for the focusing, a sharp image is achieved before the mechanical infinity stop on the lens is reached.

Q: 8. Will this also fit the SL (601)?

A: Because the dimensions of the Leica SL (Typ 106) are not the same as the dimensions of the Leica SL2 and the Leica SL2-S, so the 8Sinn Full Camera Cage for Leica SL2 and SL2-S is not compatible with the Leica SL (Typ 601).

Q: 9. do the leica S lenses can be used in the Leica SL?

A: You will need the Leica S to Leica L adapter: https://bhpho.to/3mvfw9a

Q: 10. Do super-wide M lenses still color shift in the corners on this new sensor? I keep reading this quote about the SL2-S: "sensor stack fully compatible with Leica M-Lenses". I wonder what they're trying to say.

A: From testing and observation, there does not appear to be any color shifting in the corners of their new sensor designed for the camera. And as for the "sensor stack fully compatible with Leica M-Lenses" quote, they are referring to the fact that their M-Lenses are some of the best optical glass that they manufacturer, so the new sensor takes full advantage of that sharpness and color rendering to produce images that hold up to the Leica standard.

[Black] When I first ordered this camera was just an expensive Panasonic S5 which I own. It NOT. It takes photography to the next level. The touch interface on camera best I have seen on a camera. The ergonomics of this camera is perfect for my hand. The ISO and Dynamic range are simply incredible. The release of firmware 2.0 has brought more fantastic features to this master peace.

[Yes] This is the perfect little sister to accomany my Leica SL2. Same awesome, intuitive menu, just better light sensitivity and videos, but 24.6 Megapixels rather than 47.3. I'm selling most of my other gear to buy nothing but Leica. Leica gives better color right out of the box, sharper, plus awesome image stabilization to handhold almost anything. The DNG format is more widely supported than CR2 or CR3, saving a step using certain software.

[Leica SL2] I have not had my camera that long but the Leica SL2S with the Vario-Elmarit 24-70mm lens is everything I expected it to be. The colors spectacular and the build quality is outstanding. Simply put, when I bought my first Leica X I knew I would never pick up another camera without the Leica badge. Now that this is my second Leica I have been reassured that Leica's are in a class all by themselves. I am very happy with my purchase.

[Black] Comparing this camera to the SL2 is more apples and oranges than I would have thought. The SL2-S is great in low light, and has somewhat faster autofocus. While both cameras produce gorgeous images, there are differences in what comes directly out of the camera. They are not huge differences and can be easily corrected afterwards. The best review of this camera I have seen, and one that explores the differences between the SL2-S and the SL2 is the review from Steve Huff (one of the reviews on this site). I think that he provides an accurate assessment.

I am still getting used to both cameras but I really enjoy the feel of the SL series camera body and the ease of use of the controls. While I bought the SL2 before the SL2-S came out, I can see that there are enough differences between the two that I am quite happy to have both. I think the SL2 excels in landscape, architecture, and in anything where I need to crop and can thus benefit from the larger file size.

The SL2-S would be my choice for general purpose travel, evening and night photography (particularly street scenes), and most action-related stuff such as my dogs. Admittedly, neither camera has the incredible autofocus capability of recent higher end Sony or Canon cameras but both the SL2 and SL2-S are capable with the edge going to the SL2-S.

[Yes] Rather than a myriad of buttons, dials, and gizmos -- Leica builds a UI (User Interface) designed for photographers, not computer geeks.
Stills settings are separate from Video settings and all are logically presented for instant access.
Most importantly for me, the old fashioned stills photographer, the image's RAW files (DNG like Adobe) have amazing depth in both shows and highlights yet are adaptable to the creator's wishes.

[Black] I switched from TL2 to SL2-S and have no regrets. Its simplicity, ease of use is excellent, and the image quality is fantastic (colours, skin tone, sharpness, etc.).

A lot of people knock the autofocus, but I'm 99% happy with it for stills, and manual focus is the way to go for video anyway.

I tried the Sigma 28-70, which is a super lens by default, but the Leica version is better. Not just because of the build quality, but also the image quality. Yes, the 24-90 is a hair better and noticeably heavier (I tried that too), I think the kit lens is somewhere between the Sigma 24-70 and the Leica 24-90.

I give it 5 stars, but if it was a little lighter I would give it 6. :) After a full day of shooting, you can feel the weight, but it's lightened if you buy a good neck strap.

[Black] Was looking for a hybrid that has the Leica look and this camera is worth it. Auto focus is just whatever for video but I personally manual focus anyway. Leica LUTs for Log look sublime. Sensor works well in tough lighting conditions.

[Yes] I love how this camera is made . Super solid and I don't have to worry about it getting water and dust in it . Not the best autofocus but it's manageable as long as you know your workarounds .

The 4K video is amazing !! Plus the HD 180 FPS is a nice feature to have . Oh and did I mention about being able to hook this up with a V-Mount battery via usb -C to Dtap cable ? That and the Atomos ninja v make it a nice compact run and gun filmmaking kit .

The Leica look is an obsession that a lot of Leica owners would admit to as a reason for purchasing this tool . Despite some of it's minor short comings , it's an amazing step forward in my career being able to provide images from this camera .

Thank you B&H for shipping this out to me in a timely manner ! You guys are the best !

[Leica SL2] I own the original SL (601) for 5 years.this is what I was waiting for.I didn’t need the high resolution of sl2 as I don’t crop my photos and I didn’t need the high file size.also the low light picture taking was not good with the sl2.too much noise above iso 800.A lot of people think the higher pixel count better image quality and that is not true.I shoot only with Leica M lenses.love this camera SL2-S.great upgrade from the SL 601.
