Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does monitor fully articulate without removing L-component from base plate?

A: According to the manufacturer, when using the Really Right Stuff Modular L-Plate Set for Nikon Z9, if you were to unscrew and move the L component away from the camera, then the screen would be able to go out and angle itself. However, there is not a hole in the L component that most of their modular plates have. This means you would not be able to lay the LCD screen completely horizontal.

Q: 2. How do you orient the Z9 inside this case?

A: The Nikon Z9 can be oriented with the hot shoe facing up in the Porta Brace PB-Z9DK.

Q: 3. What is the exact length of the camera plate meant for Nikon Z9 ?

A: The actual dovetail on the Kirk Camera Plate for Nikon Z9 Mirrorless Camera is 91mm long. The entire plate is 97mm.

Q: 4. Will this also fit the Nikon Z8 w/o blocking the battery door?

A: No, the Kirk Camera Plate for Nikon Z9 Mirrorless Camera would not be a good fit for the Nikon Z8 Mirrorless Camera, as it is designed for the Z9. A better option would be the Kirk Base Plate for Nikon Z8, BH #KIPZ189 (https://bhpho.to/3tEe3Ty).

Q: 5. Does anybody know if this cage fits to the NIKON D850, because SmallRig discontinued the model 2127 for the D850?

A: I'm very sorry to say that the SmallRig Camera Cage for Nikon Z9 will not support the Nikon D850 camera body. We recommend looking at Universal cage solutions. Wooden Camera Unified DSLR Cage with Wood Grip (Large) B&H # WO243900 CAMVATE Adjustable Universal Camera Cage with Quick Release Baseplate BH #CAC1772

Q: 6. Are there any differences between this bag and the Porta Brace CS-DV3R?

A: The bags will be very similar as they have the same exterior and interior dimensions and padded interior. The main difference is in the features, mainly the design of the outside pocket, the shoulder strap and what is included with each bag. B&H #: POCSXA20 will include a limited lifetime warranty, while B&H #: POCSDV3R will include a removable small padded pouch and a 1 year warranty.

Q: 7. Is it convenient or effective when holding the camera vertical to shoot portrait format?

A: The Hoodman HoodEYE Eyecup for Nikon Z8 and Z9 Models has a rotating eyecup, so you can position the extended flap wherever is most convenient for the particular photo you are making.

Q: 8. It looks as though this bag does not come with a strap, unlike similar Porta Brace bags. Is there a recommended strap for this bag, whether made by Porta Brace or anyone else?

A: This case comes with a strap so no need to purchase an additional strap. This is a great buy.

Q: 9. Will this also work with the z6 II and z7 II, with the mbn11 grip accessory?

A: No, it only fits the Nikon Z9. Its physically designed to fit the shape of the Z9.

Q: 10. Does the vertical part of the RRS l bracket allow mounting of the Nikon MC 36 remote in the 10 pin socket?

A: Being that the 10 Pin remote socket on Z9 is seated in front of the vertical portion of this RRS Modular L-Plate Set, you would still have access to the port in order to use a Nikon MC-36 remote.

[Yes] Simple, reasonably-priced L-Bracket for the Z9 and with plenty of room for adjustments.

[Nikon Z9] I do mostly people photography and often get irritated repositioning my camera on the tripod for vertical shots. The sheer bulk of my Nikon Z9 makes this more of an issue, so after researching, I now own the Sunwayfoto L-Bracket and I LOVE IT.
It fits the camera like a perfectly and the contoured base prevents twist that could occur with a flat base. The setscrew aligns perfectly with the opening on the bottom of the Z9, further eliminating possible misalignment.
The contour of the device allows access to the battery compartment, buttons and camera openings, although I may need something to help opening the weather seal over the HDMI or other ports.
I have only used it once, so I am anxious to see how it works when I shoot tomorrow. I expect the horizontal to vertical switch to be a snap.
One other thing. I changed out the heads on my Manfrotto tripods to standardize all to the Arca-type connection which is integral to this bracket, but that's another review.

[Nikon Z9] Have used the sunway brand of L brackets on all my cameras, they are reasonably priced and they work.

[Black] I have been looking for a L Bracket for a while and saw a review on this bracket so I made this purchase. It did not disappoint.

[Yes] I found the original version of this to be perfectly usable and excellent for the price, back when the Z9 first came out. I just bought another of these L-brackets, based on that experience. I was surprised to discover that there is a new version, and it is better. First, for those who didn't like the original because of the tight fit with the strap lug, the new version has more clearance. Both versions offer the option of sliding the whole unit left, creating nearly an inch of clearance, but doing so does mean that the L is not quite centered in one axis. The new version also includes a handy magnetized way to store the hex key, which seems quite effective. A nice touch. The bottom foot now also has a nice kind of lining not seen in the product pictures. Presumably it is less likely to scratch the camera body. I've never had any L-bracket do that to any of my cameras in the past 30 years, but this one is even less likely to do so. The bracket itself is also very slightly beefier, not that it was a problem to begin with. There is absolutely no issue using the left-side ports with the camera mounted on the bracket.

All in all, several minor improvements over an already good product. The revised version gets a full five stars.

NB: I have used RRS and Kirk L-brackets for most of my career, but there's no reason whatsoever to spend more than this Leofoto.

[Black] First bought a Kirk Camera plate for the Z9 since at the time I was not planning on much vertical shooting. Doing more panos led me to look at L-plate options. Kirk would not sell me the side part that attached to their camera plate to make the full l-bracket, and I was not going to pay $249 for Kirks full l-bracket (RRS overcharges also). Finally decided on the Sunwayfoto bracket and I'm not disappointed. It fits snuggly on the z9 and allows complete access to all buttons and cable ports. I only wish it had the QD socket that I love on the Kirk plate. One minor criticism is one of the two bottom mounting screws mount proud and causes the camera to be slightly unstable when placed on a surface. There also appears to be a little play (takes a good tug to see it) when the bracket is mounted vertically, although I have not noticed any issues with quality of images.

[Yes] I had two shoots in the rain recently- one with this poncho (not good) and one with it (good). It kept me and my mixer dry, it was easy to put on and take off, and it felt kind of like a big jacket, much better than I expected. Folds up pretty small so easy to bring with me for future work.

[Nikon Z9] I was suspect on the low price but was pleasantly surprised with the quality. Solid with no flexing and easy access to the battery. The camera strap eye is easily accessible.
