  • Highly efficient dedicated Class D power amplifiers, one for each driver
  • Switched-mode power supply technology offering high SPL output
  • Active crossover filter
  • Electronic system protection
  • Balanced analog line input
  • Flexible room acoustic compensation tool set built-in

  • Flat on and off-axis response for wider usable listening area.
  • Increased direct-to-reflected sound ratio for reduced control room coloration.
  • Improved stereo and soundstage imaging.
  • Increased drive unit sensitivity up to 6 dB.
  • Increased system maximum sound pressure level capacity.
  • Decreased drive unit distortion.
  • Reduced cabinet edge diffraction.
  • Reduced complete system distortion.

  • The DCW waveguide has been integrated in the MDE aluminum enclosure to provide improved control of the loudspeaker’s directivity. Basically, the low-frequency limit for constant directivity is determined by the size of the waveguide, so the larger the surface, the better the control. With a very controlled off-axis radiation, the listening window becomes consistent, which is of utmost importance with multi-channel audio monitoring.
  • Controlled directivity also reduces possible first order reflections on surfaces near the loudspeaker, helping to provide consistent audio reproduction in different acoustical environments. In fact, the entire front baffle is gently curved and the acoustically transparent grilles are part of the outer cabinet aesthetics, blending perfectly with the various other curved surfaces.

  • Both driver and vent contribute to the total radiation of a reflex enclosure. Most radiation comes from the driver, but at the vent-enclosure resonant frequency, the driver displacement amplitude is small and most of the radiation comes out of the vent.
  • To minimize the air speed in the tube, the cross-sectional area of the vent should be large. This in turn means that the vent tube has to be long, which presents quite a design challenge.
  • The long, curved tube maximizes airflow, so deep bass can be reproduced without compression. The reflex tube terminates with a wide flare located on the rear of the enclosure, minimizing port noises and providing excellent bass articulation.
  • The curvature of the tube has also been carefully designed to minimize any audible noise, compression, or distortion. The inner end of the tube has proper resistive termination to minimize once again audible chuffing noise and air turbulence.
  • Proper reflex port design also allows to significantly reduce the woofer’s displacement, improving the linear low-frequency output capacity.

The interaction between room acoustic and loudspeaker radiation is complex. Each room changes the monitor's response in a unique way, e.g. reflective vs. damped rooms, or placement against a wall vs. on a stand away from the walls.

  • Bass Roll-Off
  • Bass Tilt
  • Treble Tilt

  • The power amplifiers are directly connected to the speaker drivers, maximizing the control exerted by the power amplifier’s damping on the driver’s voice coil, reducing the consequences of dynamic changes in the driver's electrical characteristics. This may improve the transient response of the system.
  • There is a reduction in the power amplifier output requirement. With no energy lost in the passive crossover filter components, the amplifier power output requirements are reduced considerably (by up to 1/2 in some cases) without any reduction in the acoustic power output of the loudspeaker system. This can reduce costs and increase audio quality and system reliability.
  • No loss between amplifier and driver units results in maximum acoustic efficiency.
  • Active technology can achieve superior sound output vs. size vs. low-frequency cut-off performance.
  • All loudspeakers are delivered as a factory aligned system (amplifiers, crossover electronics, and enclosure-driver systems).

  • The frequency response becomes independent of any dynamic changes in the driver's electrical characteristics or the drive level.
  • There is increased flexibility and precision for adjusting and fine-tuning each output frequency response for the specific drivers used.
  • Each driver has its own signal processing and power amplifier. This isolates each driver from the drive signals handled by the other drivers, reducing intermodulation distortion and overdriving problems.
  • The ability to compensate for sensitivity variations between drivers.
  • The possibility to compensate for frequency and phase response anomalies associated with a driver’s characteristics within the intended passband.
  • The flat frequency response of a high-quality active loudspeaker is a result of the combined effect of the crossover filter response, power amplifier responses, and driver responses in a loudspeaker enclosure.

  • Reduces the output level when required, (e.g. when driver voice coil temperature reaches the safe limit), which highly improves system reliability.
  • Appropriate protection circuitry design in every loudspeaker and subwoofer enables the maximization of system output sound level.

The Intelligent Signal Sensing, ISS circuitry tracks the signal input of the loudspeaker and detects if it is in use. If the ISS circuit does not find any audio on the input for a period of time, it sets the loudspeaker to a low-power sleep state and the loudspeaker will consume less than 0.5 watts. When an input signal is detected, the loudspeaker immediately turns itself on.

On the base of the loudspeaker is a 3/8" UNC threaded hole compatible with a standard microphone stand. On the rear, there are two M6x10mm threaded holes for Omnimount size 20.5 brackets or the keyhole wall mount adapter provided with the loudspeaker.

Q: 9. So, I have to ask - what is the difference between this stand and a standard mic stand? Realistically, it seems one could use any mic stand (table or floor) with a 3/8" thread. Thanks!

A: The base plate for this will have a better balance than a normal mic stand for the larger speakers like the xx4x and xx5x size speakers. The pole is thicker than a standard mic stand and has a locking pin as an added safety measure. A standard mic stand pole may not support the weight of these monitors. Microphone stands are not designed to support the weight of a monitor. They may easily tip or start to slide down

Q: 10. Is the mounting hardware included with these speakers?

A: Yes, these speakers come with 2 x SAM (Strong-Arm-Mount) Mounting Systems.

[1] I have been using Genelec 8010s for 4 years as computer monitors but recent heavier listening overloaded the bass so I splurged on a set of 8030Cs. OMG, a new spring has arrived! A whole complex of midrange, bass, attack, separation has appeared. I never realized what was missing. I am overwhelmed. God, Genelec!

[Class-D] I purchased a pair of Genelec G3 speakers from B&H. They were a special order from Finland and arrived well within the estimated window. And, the speakers sound great. Highly recommended equipment and vendor!

[2-Way] Tiny; great sound quality at all levels. I have 2 already and bought 2 more. Only drawback is no volume control.

[110 dB (Peak)] this is like you buy it and last for about 25 years, and the used market value are still giving you back the difference, if you hesitated this is a to go

[Bass-Reflex] Upgraded from a pair of smaller Genelecs (8020D), and the difference is definitely noticeable! Better low end response, incredible clarity and separation, very precise overall. Part of the reason I chose Genelec in the first place is not only the sound, but the build quality and company as a whole. You’re getting a product that will last years and years, from a company that cares and builds all of their speakers in one location! The raw finish is stunning and very unique as well. Highly recommend!

[1] I've been considering many small speaker on the desk (LSX T0/T1, etc). What drew my eye of this speaker is the aesthetics. I do believe the main point of this particularly speaker is the aesthetic (RAW aluminum) as that's what this is different from the regular G Three/8030C. Well, the simplest way to describe it it looks very much like a piece of furniture made by Restoration Hardware. The metallic pattern on this speaker is completely random and non-repeating, and looks hand rubbed. It has this very futuristic but yet rusty and old fashioned look. If you're looking for a unique speaker to decorate your desk while sounds good, this might just be the pair you're looking for.

Also on shipping, it took around 4 weeks for B&H to place the order from Finland. And I found the pricing on B&H to be much cheaper than directly buying from the the Finland company who also listed this for sale (the free shipping is a real deal.)

[3 kHz (Active)] It's not like Genelec doesn't get enough praise already, but I'll say it again-these speakers are phenomenal: flat, honest, beautifully made and are most certainly a buy it for life type purchase.

The raw finish is absolutely unique and unlike anything else you can find in the high-end audio market. Truly a design highlight of probably any studio.

Love the speakers and can't wait for all the hours of quality listening time in front of these. If I don't produce a platinum record using these I don't think there's anything else that could help me. See you at the Grammies!

[Active] The sound you are getting for your money with these is spectacular. If there's any downside it's that they can sound phenomenal with the right listening position and maybe not quite as phenomenal if you site somewhere else. The vertical alignment is particularly noticeable. Luckily the rubber foot makes it easy to adjust the vertical angle, not something you are going to get from most monitors or bookshelf speakers that are in prismatic cases.

The only other slight con may be some hiss if you stick your ear right in the tweeter, but if you sit a meter away you can't hear it. I turned the sensitivity all the way down and that also reduced the hiss. With pro-level sources (my reference level is +13dBu) you don't need the gain these speakers offer.

[13.455 lb] The Genelec G-3 speakers are beautiful in every way. They sound amazing!!! I am using them in my bedroom and study. They are connected to my Sonos connect and a DAC via XLR cables and they sound just about as good as my Bowers and Wilkins passive tower speakers. I would recommend these small, aesthetically pleasing active speakers to anyone who wants audiophile quality sound in a small and lovely package.

[1] Bought a pair of these from B&H for audiophile computer speakers. They are amazing for such small speakers.

Would purchase again if ever needed another set of small speakers. Already considering changing the AV system on the TV to use Genelec G-one combined with the F-one or F-two subwoofer.
