Inspired by the lenses and aesthetics of yester-year, the Voigtlander Heliar Classic 50mm f/1.5 Lens Review & Specsis a unique normal-length prime intended to provide you with vintage image quality. While most of today's lenses are designed for maximum sharpness and color saturation, this lens provides you with something different and renders slightly muted colors and subtlety soft renditions. Ideal for portrait, street, and reportage photography, this lens features an all metal lens barrel and the metal focus ring is machined with a classic diamond pattern. The engraved cross hatch pattern gives both improved operability with a texture that doesn't slip in either directions. It also adds to the physical beauty and tactile appeal of the lens.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will the lens cap fit on with a filter attached?

A: Yes it will

Q: 2. How does this compare to the Voigtlander 50mm f1.2?

A: The f1.2 version is higher quality because it has 2 aspherical elements (the f1.5 only has 1) plus the f1.2 has one partial dispersion element while the f1.5 has none.

Q: 3. does this fit the M11?

A: Yes Voigtlander Heliar 50mm f/3.5 Lens is compatible with the Leica M11.

Q: 4. Where is this lens made?

A: The Voigtlander Heliar 50mm f/3.5 Lens is made in Japan.

Q: 5. How well does this work on Fuji x cameras?

A: The lens has a Leica M mount and will not work on the Fuji, unless you get a lens adapter from Leica to Fuji and then of course it will be fully manual. Having said that, it should perform nicely. Click the link below to view; https://bhpho.to/2YJJ7Rn

Q: 6. Is this lens single or multi-coated?

A: No, the lack of a multi-coating the Voigtlander heliar classic 50mm ensures atmospheric results, especially in backlit situations the lens has a single coating only.

Q: 7. Can this lens be used on an original M-3 with good results?

A: Absolutely. Voigtlander lenses, like this Nokton 50mm f/1.5 Aspherical II lens, are a fantastic choice for Leica rangefinders.

Q: 8. Hey guys, is this full frame ? Thanks.

A: Yes

Q: 9. this dost this dose not take a 49mm filter a 52mm works?

A: The lens directly takes a 49 mm filter. You can then mount the lens hood onto the 49mm filter. The Lens Hood does not have filter rings to attach another filter. You can use a 49-52 filter ring adapter directly on the lens if you really want to use a 52mm filter but you won't be able to attach the lens hood

Q: 10. Will this fit an M4P?

A: Yes, this is an M-mount lens so it will fit a Leica M4P.

[0.96 lb] This lens was purchased after reading a review from a user who uses this lens on a Leica SL (Steve Huff). I then set out to do a couple of comparisons between this lens and some other 50mm lenses (Summicron, Nikon f/1.4 and 1.8 AI-s lens), all on the SL. The Voigtlander 50mm Heliar was a standout from a rendering and bokeh standpoint. The attached Heliar photo of the bird of paradise at f/3.5 and roughly 3 to 4 ft distance shows how the background fades away in a very creamy fashion. If you like this type of background rendering, this is a great lens at a fantastic price!! It's by far my favorite 50mm on the SL.

[Manual Focus] Wow. I bought a copy of the S-mount Heliar for my Nikon SP. The results stopped down past 5.6 are incredible. Crisp. dynamic values. 3-Dimensional rendering. I'll have to get a second body for 28mm, cause this lens won't be unmounted from my SP...

[f/1.5] This lens is one of the best in the world for Leica!

[Manual Focus] I heard this lens had won awards for how sharp it is. That and the fact that it’s formula  goes back 100 years, piqued my interest enough to buy one.

I shoot B&W film and I have been very happy with the results. The lens is solidly built, light and produces sharp, beautifully balanced pictures even with cheep-o film.

Some have commented disparagingly on the click-less aperture ring. I don’t have problems with it because I set my aperture before I focus. My camera doesn’t have an internal light meter so I use a handheld. This means I take my reading (when necessary), set my aperture, then focus and shoot.

The attached picture was shot with Arista EDU Ultra 100 film and developed in D-76 (1+3) for 17 minutes

[Leica M] Very happy with the lens... I bought it for film duties on my M bodies and I've yet to print anything but the negatives look great and I'm eager to put this glass to use. Nicely made and I'll become accustomed to the odd cosmetics of the lens as it doesn't look like anything I recall over the years.

[Manual Focus] Capable of very good 3D-pop and rendering. Sharp enough for me. Exactly what I was expecting.

[Manual Focus] I used to use a Nikon Rangefinder mount version of this lens and I currently use a Leica screw mount (LTM) version of this lens. This is one fine lens. It is without distortion and performs impeccably through the aperture range from f4 to 16. Don't be deterred by the slow f3.5 max setting. You will be paid back by flawless performance in an extremely compact unit. I am delighted to see it back in production.

[49 mm (Front)] This thing is better built than my Leica Summarit, and it's SHARP. Wonderful character and terrific color rendition. For $529 this lens is a no-brainer. To reiterate what another reviewer said, don't sweat it "only" being a 3.5. It's a stunner with outstandingly smooth bokeh.

[50mm] I recently bought this to use on my Fuji XT-2 and have not been disappointed. Images are crisp with a very pleasing out of focus fall off. I had a 56 1.2 and as a point of comparison both have much going for them, but I enjoy using the Voigtlander a lot more.

[0.96 lb] If you get this lens you know this is no summicron, not meant to produce super sharp-perfect images. You know this lens has a different character than other Voigtlander lenses. It certainly has its place among photography and I love it paired with my M8, specially on B&W due to the single coating.
